Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease that remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. It is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which attacks the lower respiratory tract. One of the main challenges is the low rate of early detection and poor adherence to treatment. Inadequate knowledge and inappropriate behavior in prevention and transmission further worsen the situation. The public, especially those in the productive age group such as university students, need to increase their awareness of healthy living. Both health and non-health students are expected to act as agents of change by raising awareness and participating actively. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge and behavior of non-health students toward individuals with pulmonary tuberculosis. Method : This study used a quantitative descriptive approach through a survey of 100 non-health students. The sampling technique employed was probability sampling using cluster random sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire on knowledge and behavior, with data analyzed univariately. Results: A total of 85 respondents (83%) had good knowledge, 16 (16%) had moderate knowledge, and 1 (1%) had poor knowledge. Regarding behavior, 51 respondents (50%) demonstrated good behavior, 14 (14%) moderate behavior, and 37 (36%) poor behavior. Conclusion: Non-health students generally have a good level of knowledge, although their behavior toward individuals with pulmonary tuberculosis still needs improvement. Further education programs and student involvement in public health activities are needed to reinforce positive behavior.

One of the non-pharmacological treatments is red ginger decoction (Zingiber Officinale Var. Rubrum). Purpose: find out the decrease in blood pressure in the administration of red ginger decoction. Methods: Case study research design, conducted by observing blood pressure in 3 respondents which was carried out for 7 days. Results : Average decrease between 5 – 10 mmHg in Systole and 10 – 15 mmHg in Diastole pressure. Conclusion: Red ginger decoction has been proven to lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients, it can be used as a complementary therapy. However, during the administration of the stew, the condition of blood pressure must be monitored before giving the decoction. Keywords: Hypertension; Red ginger; Zingiber Officinale Var. Rubrum

Abstract

Background: Diabetic neuropathy (ND) is experienced by more than 50% of people with diabetes and can lead to ulcers and even amputations if not detected early. Fast, accurate, and affordable detection is needed, especially in health facilities with limited equipment, to prevent serious complications due to nerve damage. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the inter-rater reliability and validity of the Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) and the E-Skin Diabetic Simple Test (ESDST) as clinical diagnostic scores for diabetic neuropathy. Methods: The research design used was cross-sectional involving 176 respondents. The selected samples were then assessed for Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) and E-Skin Diabetic Simple Test (E-SDST) by two examiners at different times and places. The data obtained were categorized into positive diabetic neuropathy and negative neuropathy. Statistical analysis for reliability testing between examiners with Cohen's Kappa coefficient, while validity with a 2x2 table Results: The reliability value is obtained κ=0.68 with an alpha of 0.00 which means substantial agreement that there is agreement in using this tool from both raters. The results of ESDST validity compared to NSS obtained sensitivity results of 80.1% (high) and specificity 83.3% (high). Conclusion: E-SDST  is able to screen people with ND is also capable as a specific diagnostic tool and as a clinical diagnostic tool diabetic neuropathy has moderate/sufficient inter-rater reliability.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that often leads to serious complications such as diabetic foot ulcers if not properly managed. This community service activity aimed to increase knowledge and awareness of diabetic foot care among people with diabetes in Sanga-Sanga Dalam Village, Kutai Kartanegara. The program was carried out on July 23, 2025, through an educational session attended by 40 participants. The intervention included lectures, discussions, and demonstrations on proper foot hygiene, footwear selection, and adherence to treatment. Knowledge was assessed using pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with an average score increase from 58.5 to 91.1 (32.6%). The findings demonstrate that structured and interactive education effectively enhances self-care abilities and preventive behaviors among diabetic patients. Continuous community-based education is essential to reduce the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers and improve quality of life.
