Abstract

Abstract — Silica is one kind of porous material that is suited to adsorben. In the synthesis process, silica gel can be produced using a sol-gel method based on the sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), which is prepared by an acid. The project of this research is to establish optimum conditions in aging time and gel-drying temperatures to produce a broad surface and pore size for silica xerogel. Based on the iod's absorption of variations in aging time (14, 16, 18, 20 and 24 hours) and drying temperatures (60, 70, 80, 90 and 100°C) give the most absorption to optimum conditions of aging time at 18 hours and drying temperatures of 70°C. The presence of XRD pattern leads to amorphous nature structures that dilate at one peak in 2θ = 22.545°, which indicates synthesis of silica xerogel with a basic sodium silicate obtained from natural silica was successfully made and highly pure. Keywords — Silica, Sodium Silicate, Silica xerogel

Abstract

Sigil is an e-module creation software that can be used by high school teachers to help provide various teaching materials. However, the teacher's ability to use the Sigil software is still low where the teacher is still not able to apply the teaching materials in this e-module. E-modules can be used in online learning. One of the learning models that can be used is the Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) learning model. For this reason, society service for chemistry teachers who are members of the Padang Panjang Chemistry MGMP has been carried out in the form of a GDL-based e-module development workshop using the Sigil application. After the activity, it was found that the teacher understood and was able to create a GDL-based e-module using Sigil.

Abstract

Several industries produce liquid waste that pollutes the environment. The industrial waste produced usually contains phenol. Phenol is included in hazardous waste so that its presence in the environment needs to be considered. To overcome this environmental problem, the adsorption method can be applied using synthesized compounds such as C-CinnamalCalix[4]Resorcinarene (CCCR). CCCR is a derivative of Calix[4]Resorcinarene which can act as a host for cations, anions, and neutral molecules because it has a unique shape that has an active group, which can form hydrogen bonding with phenol solution. the purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions with variation in stirring speeds of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 rpm and contact times of 45, 60, 75, 105, and 150 minutes. phenol was analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Specord 210). adsorption phenol with CCCR obtained optimum conditions at stirring speeds of 200 rpm with an adsorption capacity of 2.016 mg/g and contact times of 60 minutes with an adsorption capacity of 2.079 mg/g.

Abstract

Silica or silicon dioxide is a chemical compound with the molecular formula SiO2 which can be obtained from the synthesis of crystals, silica minerals, and vegetables. Compounds resulting from the polymerization of silicic acid, which are composed of a tetrahedral SiO4 unit chain with the general formula SiO2. Each silica atom is surrounded by four oxygen atoms. Silica forms a polyhedral network, where the bonds between oxygen tetrahendral are one and the other. Silica will form a framework that has pores that are quite open and allow other molecules to enter and undergo adsorption on the surface of the silica. Modification of silica is done by adding heat at a certain temperature, adding reagents to the active site of silica will change the silica functional group. Silica with the addition of amine compounds reacted with GPTMS can be used as nitrate anion adsorption to see the absorption capacity of silica against nitrate anions using the batch method. The factors used to see this adsorption capacity include pH at pH 7 with an absorption of 1.931463 mg/g and the percentage of absorption is 79.5%. and contact time with a time of 90 minutes with an absorption of 0.32677 mg/g and the percentage of absorption is 67.28785%.

Abstract

Silica gel is one type of dry silica gel which is widely used as an adsorbent. Silica has the ability to absorb because it has two active site groups that can be activated, namely a silanol group and a siloxane group. This modification was carried out to increase the ability of silica to absorb ions, one of which was phosphate anion. In waters, very high levels of phosphate anion can disrupt the marine biota ecosystem because it can cause uetrophication or decreased oxygen levels that enter the waters. The modifier compound used is dimethylamine (DMA). Silica and dimethylamine can bind to several linking compounds, namely glycidopropyltrimethoxylan (gptms). The modified silica was characterized by FTIR and the absorption results were analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of the comparison of the absorption capacity of phosphate anions after modification are greater than before modification, where the absorption capacity of silica before modification is 1,2601 mg/g with an absorption percentage of 54,46% and silica after modification is 1.9686 mg/g with an absorption percentage of 1,9686 mg/g. 85,08%.Keywords — Silica gel, Modification, Dimetilamine, Phosphate Anion

Abstract

Abstract –  Molecularly Imprinted Conducting Polymers (MICPs) are polymers that have cavities that can conduct electricity. Cavities in the polymer result from template removal. The method used for the synthesis of MICPs membrane is the photopolymerization method using Ultra-Violet light. Determination of uric acid levels in solution can be analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and in blood using an easy touch. Meanwhile, to determine the electrical conductivity using a four point probe (FPP). Based on the research, it was found that the uric acid MICPs membrane had optimum absorption at a contact time of 24 hours, with an absorption capacity of 0.532 mg/g. The uric acid MICPs membrane can absorb uric acid molecules in human blood with an absorption capacity of 0.57 mg/g according to blood pH by easy touch testing. The results of this study indicate that the MICPs membrane can absorb uric acid both in solution and in blood.

Abstract

Ion chloride (Cl-) is an anion that can combine with several cations to form a water-soluble salt. High chloride content in water can accelerate the rusting process on metal. So that in this research the aim is to determine the optimum conditions for the absorption of chloride anions using silica. Adsorption using silica is able to absorb anions. However, modifications are needed to improve silica adsorption. In this study, Dimethylamine was used as a modifier and Glisidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane as a bridge between silica and dimethylamine. To determine the changes in the functional groups of silica, silica-GPTMS, silica-GPTMS DMA, and silica-GPTMS DMA with chloride ions, the FTIR test was carried out. The absorption step was carried out by varying the pH (6,7,8,9, and 10), contact time (30,60,90,120, and 150 minutes), and concentration (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 mg/L). . The results showed that the optimum conditions for absorption occurred at pH 7, contact time of 120 minutes, and a concentration of 20 mg/L with an absorption capacity of 0.250825 mg/g.

Abstract

Corrosion engineering has taken great interest in many industries that required high cost management to overcome the serious problems. This work has investigated the role of watermelon peel extract as green inhibitor to protect carbon steel in seawater. This investigation has studied the corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency applying weight loss method.  The laboratory result shows the optimum inhibition efficiency found to be 71.64% at 5% inhibitor concentration in 100 ml seawater at room temperature. The effects of temperature and immersion time on inhibition efficiency have also been examined.  This study has used Arrhenius equation based on activation energy to determine type of adsorption encountered with corrosion process. The result shows a chemical adsorption justified by its high adsorption heat and strengthened by FTIR and UV-Vis examinations. The phytochemical examination of watermelon peel extract gives positive response to flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin. The finding is useful for many industries encountered with carbon steel corrosion in corrosive medium using green inhibitor.
