Abstract

Formaldehyde was detected electrochemically using a pencil lead electrode modified with a thin layer of silver (Ag/PLE). Modification of the silver thin layer was carried out by sweeping-potential electrodeposition using the cyclic voltammetry method. This study aims to study the response of PLE and Ag/PLE for determination of formaldehyde and also to determine the optimum conditions of the supporting electrolyte used in the measurement of formaldehyde. The results showed that Ag/PLE provided better performance than PLE and 0.1 M KOH was the optimum supporting electrolyte. Measurement of formaldehyde using Ag/PLE electrodes with a concentration of 10 mM of test analyte. The oxidation peak of formaldehyde is present at a potential of 0.054 Volt.

Abstract

Silica gel is a compound that has two active sides, namely silanol (Si-OH) and siloxane (Si-O-Si) which have not been effective as adsorbents so modifications are made. Silica gel is modified using monosodium salt 4-Amino-5-hydroxy-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonic acid which is reacted first with GPTMS (glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane) as a connecting bridge to produce sulfonate-modified silica gel-GPTMS adsorbent. The purpose of this modification is that sulfonate-modified silica gel-GPTMS are made to adsorb Ni2+ metal ions under optimum conditions at pH, contact time and concentration. The adsorption process is carried out using the batch method by seeing how much adsorbent adsorption capacity is made against the absorption of metal ions. The characterization used is an FTIR (Fourier Transform-Infrared) spectrophotometer in the analysis of the adsorbent manufacturing process and SSA (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) to see the results of metal ion absorption. The results obtained according to research that has been conducted show the adsorption of sulfonate-modified silica gel-GPTMS against the absorption of Ni2+ metal ions at optimum conditions is at pH 3 and contact time for 45 with absorption capacities of 1.5265 mg/g and 1.5826 mg/g respectively.

Abstract

Adsorbents that are often used in the adsorption process are silica gels. Silica gel has unique advantages such as being, having ion exchange ability, being stable at high temperatures, not floating on organic solvents, and being easy to modify. But the effectiveness of silica gel adsorption against metal ions is weak, so it needs to be modified on the surface of silica gel. The modifier used is a sulfonate group derived from a 4-amino-5-hydroxy-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonate salt using a glycosidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane linkage (GPTMS). The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum conditions for the Cd2+ ion with variations in pH and contact time. The results of the study obtained optimal conditions for the absorption of the Cd2+ ion at pH 5 and a contact time of 60 minutes.

Abstract

Adsorption is the process of accumulation of atoms or ions in solution on the surface of a solid adsorbent. Silica gel can be used as an adsorbent because it has two groups of active sites, namely silanol (Si-OH) and siloxane (Si-O-Si). The active groups also allow silica to be modified. This modification was made to increase the ability of silica to adsorb ions, one of which is Pb2+ ion. The modifier compound used is a sulfonic salt (4-amino-5-hydroxy-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonic acid) with a glysidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) linking compound. The modified adsorbents were characterized by FTIR and the absorption results were characterized by AAS. The modified adsorbent was to determine the optimum conditions for adsorption of Pb2+ ions using silica sulfonate. Adsorption was carried out using the batch method. The optimum absorption conditions for Pb2+ metal ions using silica sulfonate were obtained at pH 3, contact time of 45 minutes.

Abstract

Ion chromatography is an advanced and highly sensitive form of ion exchange chromatography that can effectively detect ion species, whether organic or inorganic ions. This research study utilized ion chromatography with a suppressed conductivity detection system to separate and measure the concentration of fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate ions in groundwater and tap water samples. The eluent solution used in this separation contained 6.0 mmol/L Na2CO3 and 0.25 mmol/L NaHCO3, which was crucial in ensuring the accuracy and selectivity of the detections. The samples were collected in 3 sub-districts in Ternate City, and the study's findings shed light on the water quality in the area.

Abstract

Cooking oil is a biological mixture derived from plants and consists of a mixture of esters derived from glycerol with fatty acids. The most commonly used cooking oil for cooking by the community is palm oil, because it is easy to obtain and the price is relatively affordable. The main composition of palm oil is triglycerides more than 95% and several other components such as monoglycerides, diglycerides, free fatty acids, phosphatides and sterols. Sweet Potatoes have the main content, namely carbohydrates. In addition to carbohydrates, there are other ingredients such as protein and fat. The purpose of this study was to determine the physicochemical properties of packaged cooking oil from sweet potato frying at a certain time and temperature and to use packaged cooking oil without heating as a comparison. The physicochemical properties of the oil determined include density, flow rate, acid number and saponification number. Bimoli cooking oil from sweet potato frying has a density value of 0.9369 gr/ml, a flow rate of 3.662 ml/s, an acid number of 8.143 mgKOH/gr and a saponification number of 14.305 mgKOH/gr. The results of this study indicate that the results of the physicochemical properties test of packaged cooking oil have a better value than the test results of sweet potato frying oil.

Abstract

Fe(II) Metal Ions are one type of heavy metal that is toxic resulting in pollution in the environment. In waters if Fe(II) ion exceeds the limit of 0.3 mg / L will cause damage to the ecosystem and the surrounding environment, so countermeasures are needed from pollution caused by Fe(II) ions. Biosorption using cellulose biosorbents extracted from durian fruit peel was chosen as one of the efficient methods. The purpose of this study can determine the absorption capacity of durian fruit peel and determine the optimum conditions for absorption of Fe (II) metal ions carried out by batch method with variations in pH and concentration. The optimum pH of Fe (II) metal ion absorption was obtained at pH 5 and an optimum concentration of 250 ppm with an absorption capacity of 4.3 mg / g.

Abstract

Silica is a metal oxide compound that is widely found in nature and is used as an adsorbent. Silica has the ability to adsorb ions because it has two groups of active sites that can be modified, namely siloxane (Si-O-Si) and silanol (Si-OH) groups. This modification was made to increase the ability of silica to absorb ions, one of which is the metal ion Ca2+. Silica modification was carried out by adding a bridging compound, namely glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). The purpose of this research was to determine the optimum conditions of pH, contact time, and adsorption concentration of Ca2+ metal ions on sulfonate-modified GPTMS silica using batch method. The filtrate resulting from adsorption was analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the optimum conditions for the adsorption of Ca2+ metal ions by sulfonate-modified GPTMS silica occurred at pH 5, contact time of 60 minutes, and concentration of 20 ppm. The adsorption process of Ca2+ metal ions by sulfonate-modified GPTMS silica follows the langmuir isotherm equation with an absorption capacity of 2.7824 mg/g. The results of the comparison of the absorption capacity of silica after modification obtained greater results than before modification, where the absorption capacity after modification was 2.225375 mg/g with an absorption percentage of 57.17%, before modification the absorption capacity was 1.677275 mg/g, and the absorption percentage was 43.07%.
