Abstract

Health is a vital aspect that must be continuously monitored, one of which is through blood pressure measurement. In general, blood pressure measurement is carried out using a manual sphygmomanometer that requires medical expertise, so the results are often not well documented. This study aims to design and implement a blood pressure monitoring system based on a microcontroller using the Mamdani fuzzy logic method. The system is developed by integrating a digital blood pressure sensor and a MAX30100 heart rate sensor connected to an Arduino Uno. The Mamdani fuzzy method is employed to classify the measurement results into three categories: hypotension, normal, and hypertension, based on systolic, diastolic, and heart rate (BPM) values. The system is also equipped with an LCD as a visual indicator to display the user’s health condition in real time, quickly, and informatively. Experimental results show that the system can operate properly, achieving an average error rate of 3.44% and an accuracy level of 96.28%. These findings indicate that the proposed monitoring system is sufficiently accurate, flexible in handling uncertain biological data, and has great potential to be developed as an initial screening tool for health conditions, particularly at home or in areas with limited access to medical facilities.

Abstract

Wage determination in palm-oil plantations often relies on subjective assessments, which may lead to inconsistencies, unfair practices, and disputes between workers and management. To address this issue, this study proposes the application of the Fuzzy Mamdani method as a decision support system for determining plantation workers’ wages. The main objective is to design and implement a fuzzy-based model that provides fair and transparent wage recommendations by integrating multiple worker performance criteria. The research was conducted at PT CSIL with a sample of 45 workers. Four key variables length of service, attendance, overtime, and work performance were formulated into linguistic variables with triangular membership functions. A fuzzy rule base, developed in collaboration with domain experts, was used to perform Mamdani inference with centroid defuzzification. Data were obtained from company records and validated using comparisons with the actual wage distribution determined by the payroll department. The results show that the system recommendations were consistent with the company’s wage decisions for 40 out of 45 workers, representing an agreement rate of 88.9%. This demonstrates that the Fuzzy Mamdani method can effectively reduce subjectivity and improve fairness in wage determination. In conclusion, the proposed system provides a reliable tool to support payroll decision-making in plantation settings. The implications suggest that broader adoption of fuzzy-based models can enhance transparency and worker satisfaction in agricultural wage systems.

Abstract

Many beauty products have emerged from various brands by providing attractive offers for women who are their main targets. Product reviews can help consumers regarding the quality of using the product. However, the problem is, on the femaledaily.com website there is no distinction between negative, neutral, and positive reviews so that consumers must first read the review and it takes a lot of time and this problem really requires a classification process on the review into negative, neutral, and positive classes. This process cannot be done automatically, therefore sentiment analysis is needed. To find out the classification of positive, negative, and neutral sentiment on the product, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method is used, the advantage of SVM in this case lies in its ability to handle high-dimensional datasets and still produce effective classification and SVM is also a good choice for sentiment analysis in the context of cosmetic product reviews. The classification results using the SVM method produce data into 3 classes, namely 510 positive reviews, 98 neutral, and 29 negative with an accuracy value of 77.97%, precision 78%, recall 100%, fi-score 88%

Abstract

Chicken meat is a popular source of animal protein in Indonesia due to its high nutritional value, affordable price, and easy processing. The identification of chicken meat freshness is currently still done manually through visual or tactile inspection, but this method has limitations, especially if consumers are less skilled in distinguishing the quality of chicken meat freshness. Therefore, an automated system is needed to classify the freshness level of chicken meat based on images. This research aims to develop an image processing system in classifying the freshness level of chicken meat by utilizing the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method with Hue Saturation Intensity (HSI) based color feature extraction. This process is done by converting the RGB image into HSI, then extracting the Hue, Saturation, and Intensity values and classifying using a polynomial kernel. This study used 450 chicken meat images, with 360 training data and 90 test data. The developed system successfully achieved an accuracy of 65.56%. The test results show that the system is reliable in classifying the freshness level of chicken meat. This system has the potential to support the identification of meat freshness efficiently and objectively, while at the same time improving food safety.

Abstract

This study examines the body gestures of students at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara in virtual classrooms, lecturers’ responses to these gestures, and the meanings implied in students’ nonverbal behavior from a theoretical perspective. The research addresses how nonverbal communication shapes engagement in post-pandemic online learning environments. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation of student interactions via the Zoom platform and analyzed using George Kelly’s gesture theory and Vijai Kumar’s gesture theory. The findings indicate that students’ gestures are predominantly adaptive (adaptors) rather than illustrative or regulatory, reflecting intrapersonal psychological states such as confusion, boredom, hesitation, or cognitive processing. These gestures often create ambiguity due to limited verbal clarification. The study argues that Kumar’s framework is more applicable for assessing real-time student engagement, while Kelly’s theory provides deeper insight into students’ cognitive construction of learning experiences. The results highlight that weak nonverbal interaction contributes to reduced effectiveness of online learning, suggesting the need for lecturers to incorporate awareness of gesture theory and nonverbal communication strategies to foster meaningful virtual classroom engagement.
