Abstract

This study examines the body gestures of students at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara in virtual classrooms, lecturers’ responses to these gestures, and the meanings implied in students’ nonverbal behavior from a theoretical perspective. The research addresses how nonverbal communication shapes engagement in post-pandemic online learning environments. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation of student interactions via the Zoom platform and analyzed using George Kelly’s gesture theory and Vijai Kumar’s gesture theory. The findings indicate that students’ gestures are predominantly adaptive (adaptors) rather than illustrative or regulatory, reflecting intrapersonal psychological states such as confusion, boredom, hesitation, or cognitive processing. These gestures often create ambiguity due to limited verbal clarification. The study argues that Kumar’s framework is more applicable for assessing real-time student engagement, while Kelly’s theory provides deeper insight into students’ cognitive construction of learning experiences. The results highlight that weak nonverbal interaction contributes to reduced effectiveness of online learning, suggesting the need for lecturers to incorporate awareness of gesture theory and nonverbal communication strategies to foster meaningful virtual classroom engagement.

Abstract

It is estimated that 175 million people in Indonesia utilize the Internet, according to the most recent We Are Social survey. 160 million of them are internet users who utilize social media, according to this data. It is estimated that 19.5 million Indonesians use Twitter. This is consistent with the numerous tweets that users have posted on Twitter about a variety of topics, including politics, music, health, and education. The death penalty is still one of the most popular subjects that is addressed on Twitter. When a judge rules that someone will be executed as retribution for a crime they have committed, this is referred to as the death penalty. As a result, sentiment analysis utilizing the Support Vector Machine technique with linear kernel features and Python programming was used to study public opinions on the death sentence. To improve the accuracy of the results obtained, data labeling on 848 data that were received through the scraping process was done manually in this study. Positive data is categorized as belonging to the class that supports the death sentence, while negative data is categorized as belonging to the class that opposes it. The study that was done shows an 8:2 difference between the training and test data. After preprocessing a dataset containing 758 data points, of which 606 will be utilized for training and 152 for testing, we obtain 91% accuracy, 91% precision, 100% recall, and 95% f1-score

Abstract

The involvement of Bill Gates in the development program of the tuberculosis (TB) vaccine has generated diverse responses among the Indonesian public, particularly as expressed through social media platform X, making it an important issue to examine since public sentiment may influence public trust in health programs and the success of TB prevention efforts. This study aims to analyze public sentiment in Indonesia toward Bill Gates’ involvement in the TB vaccine program based on social media data from platform X using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. The research data consist of 784 Indonesian-language tweets collected through web scraping techniques using keywords related to the TB vaccine issue and Bill Gates. The collected data then underwent several text preprocessing stages, including data cleaning, case folding, tokenization, word normalization, stopword removal, and stemming to improve text quality and consistency. Feature representation was performed using the Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) method, while the dataset was split into 80% training data and 20% testing data. The classification model was built using an SVM algorithm with a linear kernel to optimally separate positive and negative sentiment classes. The experimental results show that the SVM model combined with TF-IDF achieved an accuracy of 96.8%, with a precision of 98.3%, a recall of 79.2%, and an F1-score of 86.0%. Sentiment distribution analysis indicates that the majority of tweets were dominated by negative sentiment, while positive sentiment appeared in a smaller proportion. The main contribution of this study lies in the application of social media–based sentiment analysis specifically to the TB vaccine issue associated with a global public figure in the Indonesian context, as well as in demonstrating that the combination of SVM and TF-IDF is effective in accurately classifying public opinion. These findings are expected to serve as a data-driven reference for government institutions and public health stakeholders in designing more effective public communication strategies.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of forecasting Bank Neo Commerce (BBYB) daily prices, where volatility and data leakage often bias results. We build a leakage-free pipeline to predict next-day Adjusted Close using multiple linear regression (OLS) with t−1 predictor lags and technical indicators: AdjCloset−1, AdjCloset−5, Volt−1, SMA5t−1, EMA5t−1, and RSI 14t−1. Daily BBYB.JK data from Yahoo Finance (12 March 2019–12 March 2025) are evaluated with a 5-fold rolling time-series split, and metrics are reported as mean ± SD. The goal is to assess OLS accuracy and its practical value against a persistence baseline. OLS attains MAE 25.15 ± 18.24, MSE 2,344.41 ± 2,956.78, R² 0.94 ± 0.06, while the baseline AdjCloset−1 yields MAE 22.40 ± 17.21, MSE 1,894.99 ± 2,420.42, R² 0.96 ± 0.04. A walk-forward long-only backtest (0.1% fee) delivers a final value of 1.04 versus 0.72 for buy-and-hold, with lower volatility and drawdown. The approach is interpretable, reproducible, and ready for extensions (feature reduction/regularization, non-linear models, and return/volatility features)
