Abstract

High school subject selection is crucial for aligning with students' interests and goals, but manual processes are often time-consuming and prone to errors. This study developed a decision support system using the WASPAS method, which combines WSM and WPM to produce a more stable and consistent evaluation of alternatives. A total of 35 10th-grade students of SMAN 16 Medan were recruited through total sampling using a Likert-scale questionnaire as the basis for the calculation. The system evaluation was verified on the entire data set, not just three samples like the previous version, to ensure the algorithm's suitability. The results show that the system generates interest recommendations based on the highest Qi score and is consistent with manual calculations, although its accuracy cannot yet be fully concluded. The distribution of student preferences is also presented, along with explanations of potential instrument bias and response bias as limitations of the study. Overall, this WASPAS-based system is considered capable of helping provide more objective and efficient subject selection recommendations.

Abstract

Pesta Tapai tradition embodies Islamic values and cultural symbols whose meanings remain underexplored through a Symbolic Interactionist perspective. Research objective to analyze Islamic value internalization and symbolic meanings within Pesta Tapai through Symbolic Interactionism and da'wah communication. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of Malay community members in Batu Bara who actively participated in the Pesta Tapai tradition. The findings indicate that Pesta Tapai serves as an effective medium for cultural da'wah to internalize Islamic values, including ukhuwah Islamiyah, togetherness, cooperation, and social solidarity. These values are manifested through collective activities in preparing and sharing tapai and lemang before Ramadan. The tradition also contains rich symbolic meanings reflected in tapai, lemang, communal gatherings, and the mogang ritual. Tapai is interpreted as a symbol of patience, self-control, and spiritual readiness for Ramadan. From a Symbolic Interactionist perspective, community members collectively interpret cultural symbols, internalize them into religious identities, and transmit Islamic values across generations through sustained social interactions. Conclusion: Pesta Tapai serves as both a cultural tradition and a da'wah medium, strengthening the internalization of Islamic values through symbolism. Significance: The study enriches Islamic communication, cultural anthropology, and Symbolic Interactionism scholarship regarding local religious value transmission.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media has made it easier for the public to access and distribute information, but it has also increased the risks of hoaxes and inaccurate assessments of digital information. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy implemented by the Medan City Communication and Information Agency through the Instagram account @diskominfomedan to improve media literacy among the people of Medan City. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation of account activities and content, and documentation. Informants were selected purposefully based on their involvement in account management and information reception, while credibility data was examined through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the communication strategy was implemented by appointing credible communicators, identifying diverse target groups, developing informative, educational, and persuasive messages, and using the visual and interactive features of Instagram. Content concerning hoax prevention, responsible social media use, public information, and positive content production encouraged informants to become more critical, selective, cautious, and responsible in receiving and sharing digital information. The study concludes that alignment among communicators, audience characteristics, message quality, media selection, and effect evaluation makes Instagram an effective government communication channel for supporting public media literacy in Medan City.
