Abstract

Abstract

Excessive smartphone use in the era of rapid technological advancement can lead to various negative impacts on life, including insomnia, addictive behaviors, nomophobia, impaired cognitive function, and other health and psychological issues. Strong self-control in individuals can mitigate the tendency to experience the fear of missing out FoMO. This study involved a sample of 115 students from state and private universities, as well as civil service or vocational schools in Surabaya. The population characteristics of this study included active students aged 17– 29 years in Surabaya. This quantitative research was analyzed using multiple regression tests and path analysis with the SPSS 16 IBM for Windows program. The results indicated a positive relationship between self-control and nomophobia among students. Specifically, the higher the level of self- control an individual possesses, the lower the level of nomophobia they experience. Additionally, the study found that FoMO mediates the relationship between self-control and nomophobia. Individuals with low self-control are more susceptible to FoMO, which in turn exacerbates their experience of nomophobia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and fear of missing out with phubbing behavior in adolescents. Phubbing is the behavior of ignoring the surrounding environment because they are more focused on their gadgets than establishing social interactions. Self-control is an individual's ability to manage themselves which is characterized by the ability to think (cognitive), act (behavior) and decide something according to their values, norms and beliefs. Fear of missing out is the fear of missing precious moments with friends or peer groups if the individual does not participate. The research method used is quantitative correlational with a sample of 139 adolescents aged 12-15 years. The data collection instrument used a phubbing scale, a self-control scale and a fear of missing out scale which were measured using a Likert scale. Data analysis was carried out using validity, reliability and multiple regression analysis tests. Based on the results of the analysis, it showed that the simultaneous correlation value F = 52.579 with a significance of 0.00 (p <0.05), meaning that there is a relationship between self-control and fear of missing out with phubbing in adolescents. Next, the partial correlation value between self-control and phubbing has a coefficient of t = -1.183 with a significance of 0.239 (p>0.05). The results show that although there is a tendency towards a negative relationship, this relationship is not statistically strong enough. The partial correlation between fear of missing out and phubbing has a coefficient of t = 7.067 with a significance of 0.000 (p<0.05), which means that there is a positive relationship between fear of missing out and phubbing in adolescents. The effective contribution given is 0.436. This means that self-control and fear of missing out have an influence of 43.6% on adolescent phubbing.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of cultural intelligence and intergroup contact on ethnic prejudice in adolescents, with ethnocentrism as a mediating variable. The study was conducted on 308 adolescents using a quantitative approach and analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) through the JASP program. The results showed that the resulting model had adequate fit (SRMR = 0.070; RMSEA = 0.092; CFI = 0.902; GFI = 0.983). Directly, cultural intelligence had a significant positive effect on ethnic prejudice, while intergroup contact had a significant negative effect on ethnic prejudice. Ethnocentrism also showed a strong positive effect on ethnic prejudice. The analysis of the mediation effect revealed that mediating ethnocentrism significantly affected cultural intelligence and intergroup contact on ethnic prejudice. These findings suggests that an increase in cultural intelligence or frequency of contact does not necessarily decrease ethnic prejudice without decrease in the level of ethnocentrism. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed in the context of developing interventions to reduce ethnic prejudice among adolescents.

Abstract

Abstract

Burnout is the result of long-term, poorly managed stress, which eventually leads to physical exhaustion. In corporate environment, burnout is a serious problem that needs special attention because it not only impacts the health and well-being of employees, but also directly affects productivity, performance, and the sustainability of company operations. Employees who apply job crafting by proactively adjusting tasks, work relationships, and perspectives on work to align with their abilities and resources are less likely to experience burnout, because they can create a work environment that is more meaningful and suits their personal needs. A positive and supportive organizational culture plays an important role in reducing employee burnout. Work engagement also found to be able to decrease burn out.  However, the mechanism of their influences on burn out still needs to be understood.  This study aims to analyze the relationship between job crafting, organizational culture and burn out through work engagement as a mediator. The research subjects involved 106 employees from two state-owned companies, namely PT X in Sidoarjo and PT Z in Surabaya, Indonesia. A path analysis conducted using JASP for Windows. The results show that work engagement mediates the relationship between job crafting, organizational culture, and burnout. In conclusion, employees who are active in job crafting and have a positive view of the company culture and values tend to have higher work engagement, which in turn make employees less likely to experience burnout. This study findings provide new understanding on how company can prevent employees burnout.
