Abstract

Turmeric is a medicinal plant that has largest secondary metabolites (curcumin). Improving secondary metabolites with abiotic stress that the provision of shade and water stress. This research aims to study the effects of shade and water stress on growth and yield of turmeric and content of secondary metabolites. The study uses a nested design with two factors, namely shade (without shade, 25%, 50%, 75%) and water stress (without stress, 25% field capacity, 50% field capacity, 25% field capacity). Analysis using the F test and DMRT 5% level. The results showed that shade did not effect to fresh and dry weight of plant. 75% shade decrease root lenght, fresh and dry weight of rhizome. Water stress did not effect to growth and yield of turmeric. The highest curcumin results in conditions without shade and without stress.

Abstract

Abstract

Potential development of medicinal plants in Karanganyar is very large, because this area is famous as a center of medicinal plants such as ginger, turmeric, kencur, and temulawak. In the development of medicinal plants, the approach of organic cultivation is one of the alternatives that can be done to achieve the business. Therefore the application of technology to society about organic farming on Biopharmaca Cluster of Karanganyar was conducted with the aim to apply organic cultivation techniques that have resulted from previous studies, so it can be applied by the community to increase income and welfare. This application of technology to society activity is held in Sambirejo, Jumantono, Karanganyar. The research was conducted from March to October 2016. The results showed that the application of chicken manure affects the number of leaves, number of tillers, and the fresh weight of turmeric rhizome. The addition of manure (chicken, goat, cow) can increase all variables of planting growth which include plant height, number of leaf, number of tillers, fresh weight of plant, dry weight of plant, and fresh weight of rhizomes. Giving three types of manure (chicken, goat, cow) with mycorrhizal dose treatment there is no intraction to some growth observation variables. Mycorrhizal treatment with a dose of 10 g/plant can increase the number of tillers in turmeric. Overall the application of mycorrhizal at various doses (5, 10, and 15 g/plant) can increase plant height, leaf number, number of tillers, and fresh weight of turmeric rhizome.

Abstract

Java turmeric is a medicinal plant which in top ranks in its uses. Many people choose herbal treatments for their health. This study aims to investigate the response of the multiplication of java turmeric against granting PGR NAA and young coconut water in vitro. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Tissue Culture, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. The research was arranged in a Fully Randomized Design with 16 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed that giving kombination treatment of 0,5 ppm NAA and 60% young coconut water was able to increase root amount with by an average of 20,33. NAA 1,5 ppm can increase buds amount at 2 buds. Giving 20% young coconut water treatment were also capable of increase average length buds, root length in sequence 7,37 cm and 7,37 cm.

Abstract

Sidaguri (Sida rhombifolia) is a wild plant with the ability to cure various diseases. Continuous exploitation of natural source can reduce the sustainability of this plant species. On the other hand, this plant is often ignored because it is considered as weed. This study aims to provide information about proper cultivation of Sidaguri to the community and medicinal plant farmers in order to maintain its sustainability and its potential to be used as cultivated plant. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatment factors: transplanting techniques (puteran, cabutan, stump) and water availability (50, 37.5, 25, 12.5% water field capacity). Observation data were analyzed by analysis of variance and followed by DMRT test at 5% upon the significant result. The results have revealed that the transplanting technique of transplanting tillers with puteran technique produces the best growth and 25% water availability increases plant growth and yield. The result suggests that Sidaguri is a plant that is tolerant to drought.

Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) belongs to multipurpose crops. All parts of sorghum can be used both as main products and derivative products; some derivative products produced from the sorghum plant consist of sugar, bioethanol, biomass, handicraft raw materials and starch. This study aims to determine the time required for testing the vigor and viability of sorghum seeds using the electrical conductivity and radicle emergence methods. The study was conducted in two experimental stages using a completely randomized design. The first experiment consisted of two factors: the number of sorghum seeds (40, 70 and 100 grains) and the volume of soaking water (75, 100, 125, and 150 ml). The second experiment consisted of two factors: research method (germination/control method, electrical conduction method, and radicle emergence method) and varieties (consisted of Numbu, Kawali, Suri 3, and Suri 4). The first experiment's results showed that the best electrical conductivity method on Suri 4 varieties were 40 seeds and 150 ml water volume. The electrical conductivity value is negatively correlated with Germination capacity, vigor index, growth of speed, maximum growth potential, and sprout growth rate. Time needed for Electrical Conductivity method in this study was three days. The germination period of 96 hours gives the best results on the radicle emergence of sorghum seed varieties. Vigor index, growth of speed, germination capacity, and maximum growth potential are positively correlated with the value of radicula emergence. Keywords: Electrical Conductivity, Radicle emergence, Vigor, Viability, Germination

This activity was carried out with a counseling/lecture model about batik, design innovation, and the advantages of natural colors in batik. Furthermore, in this activity there was also practice in making batik designs and practice in making color mixtures as well as the coloring process. In this activity, the participants who took part in the activity were Papring Village community members who were members of Papring UMKM in Kampoeng Batara. Some of the universities involved in this activity are UNS Surakarta, ITB Widya Gama Lumajang, UNY, and UNIPI Tangerang. This activity was sponsored by BI Jember. This activity is expected to increase the income and economy of the Papring Village community through innovation in batik design and batik coloring, which makes Papring Batik products of higher quality. Thus, it can increase the sales turnover of Batik Papring and further improve the economy of the Papring Village community.
