Abstract

Background: Gastrointestinal parasitic infections remain a significant global health concern in livestock, involving parasites from the Trematoda, Cestoda, and Nematoda classes. These infections can severely impact animal health and productivity. Purpose:  This comparative study to evaluate the effectiveness of oral albendazole versus subcutaneous ivermectin in reducing gastrointestinal parasite infestations in cattle maintained at the Teaching Factory of the State Polytechnic of Lampung. Case: Eight cattle exhibited clinical signs including emaciation, dull coat, foul-smelling and dark-colored feces, with body temperatures ranging from 38.2°C to 38.6°C. Appetite and activity levels remained within normal limits. The animals had a recorded history of deworming (July 2023) and foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination. Case Management:  Anthelmintic therapy was administered using either oral albendazole or subcutaneous ivermectin. Conclusion: Gastrointestinal and ectoparasitic infestations can lead to significant economic losses in livestock production. Subcutaneous administration of ivermectin proved to be more effective than oral albendazole in reducing gastrointestinal parasite infestation in cattle.

Abstract

Goat farming is still carried out traditionally at Berkah Mandiri Farm (BMF) in Pesawaran Regency. Low livestock production is not only caused by the lack of knowledge of farmers regarding livestock maintenance but also due to the very scarce availability of superior forage. Optimization of agricultural waste as animal feed is expected to answer the urgency of providing scarce natural fiber sources, especially in Pejambon Village, Pesawaran Regency. In addition, the addition of prebiotic sources from Andaliman spices is expected to affect bioprocesses in the rumen and have an impact on reducing methane gas. This community service aims to provide alternative feed solutions for ruminant livestock to improve livestock businesses at Berkah Mandiri Farm, increasing the availability of sustainable feed through patent application tests of Complete Feed Formula supplemented with Andaliman Fruit Flour in alternative feed products, namely WABITAK (Livestock Biscuit Wafers). The results of the community service showed that responses agreed with the importance of innovation by 47%, the importance of technology by 52%, the need for alternative feed by 48% and control of wabitak production by 46%. It can be concluded that the breeders showed high enthusiasm and had the potential to conduct in-depth research studies, especially on the aspect of increasing productivity.

Abstract

Abstract

Tetrigona apicalis were known as lebah penyengat and its can be produce propolis were extracted by metode shaking ultrasound-assisted extraction (SUAE), which produces perfect extraction, higher yield and active content, and a shorter time. The purpose of this research were fined the optimum conditions for extracted its by using the SUAE method in glycerol solvent. It were done to raw propolis with size reduced, then solvent was added and macerated using shaker. It was processed with a sonicator, than filtered. The solvent used  70% glycerol, and the results of the propolis extract are processed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The optimal conditions of its process from the yield response shown were a stirring time of 28.76 minutes and an ultrasonic process time of 23.94 minutes with a yield of 4.238%. Based on statistical analysis using Minitab Version 19 software, stirring time and ultrasonic processing time are factors that have a significant influence on the yield of propolis extract produced. The model used is a quadratic model with R2 0.9191. A quadratic equation model was obtained which states the relationship between propolis extract yield and the varied factors X = 0.865 + 0.0091A – 0.0186B – 0.000006A2 + 0.00370.B2  + 0.00215AB
