Abstract

Objective: Indonesia ranks third as the country with the most social media users, with emerging adults making up the largest group. On average, Indonesians spend almost 6 hours a day playing social media. This condition can cause both physical and psychological problems. One of the impacts of excessive social media use is Social Media Fatigue (SMF). The level of SMF is influenced by several factors, one of which is Fear of Missing Out (FoMo), which is a fear of missing out on experiences that others are enjoying. SMF and FoMo can significantly impact an individual's mental health. The link between the two conditions is clear, but there is little in-depth research linking the two. This study aimed to explore the association of Fear of Missing out (FoMo) with Social Media Fatigue (SMF) among emerging adults. Method: A cross-sectional study design was conducted among 157 men and women emerging adults. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire that consisted of demographic characteristics, Fear of Missing Out scale, and Social Media Fatigue scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and Pearson Correlation statistic technique. Results: Descriptive analysis results showed that men showed a higher tendency of both fear of missing out and social media fatigue compared to women. Further, a significant yet moderate correlation was found between FoMo and SMF among emerging adults. Novelty: This study contributed to explore further on the relationship between fear of missing out (FoMo) and social media fatigue specifically among emerging adults.

Abstract

This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational associative design on 196 male students in the early adulthood phase at two Islamic boarding schools in Surabaya. The instruments used included the SWLS and PANAS to measure Subjective Well-Being (SWB), the MSPSS for Perceived Social Support (PSS), and the ERQ for Emotion Regulation (ER). The results of the Spearman correlation analysis showed that PSS had a strong positive relationship with SWB (ρ = 0.627, p < .001), while ER showed a moderate positive relationship with SWB (ρ = 0.537, p < .001). Non-parametric regression analysis with the bootstrap method showed that PSS (β = 0.742, p < .001) and ER (β = 0.511, p < .001) had a significant effect both partially and simultaneously on SWB, with a model contribution of 61.5% (R² = 0.615). These findings confirm that Perceived Social Support and Emotion Regulation are important predictors in improving the Subjective Well-Being of Islamic boarding school students. Practically, the results of this study contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal 3 (Health and Well-Being) by strengthening the mental health of the early adult age group, as well as SDGs goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing an empirical basis for the development of psychopedagogical interventions and sustainable social support systems in Islamic boarding school environments.

Abstract

Self-regulation is a crucial psychological capacity for women who live a dual role in the context of patriarchal culture. This study aims to explore the process of self-regulation among Javanese women in dual roles within a patriarchal culture who work as health workers. This study uses a qualitative case study approach involving five participants selected through purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using reflective thematic analysis. The results showed that participants experienced significant affective distress due to the demands of simultaneous domestic and professional roles. Self-monitoring emerges as an important mechanism but tends to be reactive, with awareness of one's condition only arising after experiencing fatigue or increased emotional distress. Self-assessment is dominated by external standards oriented towards role fulfillment, while regulatory strategies used include emotional suppression, selective emotional management, self-reflection, and expectation adjustment. Patriarchal culture shapes this process through the internalization of norms of conformity and family priorities. These findings underscore the importance of psychological interventions that not only strengthen self-regulation but also encourage reflective awareness, proactive boundary management, and the development of more adaptive emotional strategies to support women's well-being in dual roles within patriarchal societies. Keywords: dual role, healthcare workers, javanese women, patriarchal culture, self-regulation

This study aims to describe the psychological well-being of women who marry through the taaruf process and the factors that influence it. This study focuses on four main themes of psychological well-being: self-acceptance, positive relationships with others, environmental mastery, and life goals, using a qualitative approach. The four participants were selected through purposive sampling. The results show that the psychological well-being of women in taaruf marriages is strongly influenced by positive self-acceptance, the ability to establish good relationships with partners and families, and the ability to manage stress and adjustment.
