Abstract

As a waste from pineapple, pineapple peel still contains high carbohydrate and glucose.The aim of this study was to made bioethanol from pineapple peel with variation fromSaccharomyces cereviceae mass addition and fermentation time variation. The variablesused are Saccaromyces cereviceae mass 20, 30, 40 grams, fermentation pH 4 and 5,andthe length of fermentation time 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 days. The analysis of the obtained resultsshowed: the initial glucose level of pineapple peel extract 8.5325%, the highest levels ofglucose from fermentation was 8.4275%, at the addition of 30 grams Saccaromyces cerevisiae,length of fermentation time was 2 days, and the highest levels of bioethanol was3.965%, it was acquired on the addition of 30 grams Saccaromyces cerevisiae and lengthof fermentation time 10 days. The conclusion of this study is the addition of Saccaromycescerevisiae and the length of fermentation time give a significant effect on the bioetanolproduced from pineapple peel extract.Key words: bioethanol, saccharomyces cereviceae, pineapple peel

Abstract

The use of zeolite and limestone as an adsorbent in an attempt to improve the purity of bioethanol from pineapple rinds. Sugar content contained in pineapple rinds is only about 8% so it is still very little bioethanol produced. Of the fermentation process of pineapple rinds  juice with Saccaromyces cereviceae  and ethanol distillation process obtained the highest levels of only 3.9%. With the distillation repeated for three times the concentration of ethanol does not increase, it is necessary for an alternative method is to purification other adsorption processes. Adsorbents used in this study is the natural zeolite and limestone obtained from the southern city of Malang. The results showed that the ethanol content increased to once passed through the zeolite adsorbent and limestone. Activation treatment, both physically and chemically strongly influences the adsorption process. Key words : adsorption, bioethanol, lime stone, zeolite

Abstract

Penggunaan zeolit dan batu kapur sebagai adsorben dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemurnian bioetanol dari kulit nanas. Kadar gula yang terdapat dalam kulit nanas sekitar 8 % sehingga sangat sedikit bioetanol yang dihasilkan. Dari proses fermentasi sari kulit nanas dengan Saccharomyces cerevisiae dan proses destilasi didapatkan kadar bioetanol tertinggi hanya sebesar 3,9%, dan dengan destilasi berulang selama tiga kali konsentrasi bioetanol tetap tidak meningkat, untuk itu diperlukan metode alternatif permunian lain yaitu dengan proses adsorpsi. Adsorben yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah zeolit alam dan batu kapur  yang didapatkan dari daerah selatan kota Malang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memban-dingkan performance adsorben zeolit alam dan batu kapur pada pemurnian bioetanol yang dihasilkan dari kulit nanas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar bioetanol meningkat menjadi 27,22% setelah dilewatkan adsorben zeolit dan batu kapur. Perlakuan aktivasi baik secara fisik maupun kimia sangat mempengaruhi proses adsorpsi. Kata kunci : adsorpsi, batu kaour, bioetanol, zeolit alam
