Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ perception of using canva in writing class. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach and the research adapted questionnaire and also an interview to collect the data with ten students’ at Senior High School Bingin Teluk. The results of this study indicate that the use of Canva in the writing class has a positive impact on the participants. The positive impact is that Canva can increase students' motivation in writing classes, Canva can improve students' abilities in writing classes and Canva can also help students in writing classes. not only the positive impact that students have, but also obstacles in using Canva such as students having to have more time to design programs using Canva, and Canva has a premium account that we should pay for and there are some pictures which will appear and be provided without watermark.

Abstract

Learning a language for children will be much more effective when it is done while doing interesting and fun activities. One of the activities to be used is the application of English songs. This present research describes discourse analysis on the content of Islamic songs and their beneficial effect in moral teaching and understanding of the children. It is expected that through the use of Islamic songs, children can both build their English skill and grow with religious understanding.

Abstract

This research investigates English teachers’ challenges and efforts in instructional practice during the pandemic outbreaks. It aims to know the English teachers’ challenges in the instructional practice during the pandemic outbreaks and to know the English teachers’ efforts during the pandemic outbreaks. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and the data was collected through a set of questionnaire and interview. The participants are three English teachers of senior high school. The results show that there are some challenges in instructional practice; the implementation of online learning seems uneven and tends to be teachers centred, less curriculum material coverage, students were not discipline and passive in learning. It has been found also that there are some efforts to overcome the challenges during the pandemic outbreaks such as through the use of recorded videos and create good interactive lesson set to promote students’ critical thinking and encourage the students’ participation in online learning.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was conducted to see how is the use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and the activity in an online reading course to stimulate critical thinking skills, especially the students who participated in this research. This study used descriptive approach. The sample of this research consist of 6 students from the third semester of English Department in academic year 2020/2021 at one of university in Bogor. To get the data, the researchers used interviews as instruments. The results showed that the implementation of Problem-Based Learning in an online reading course is effective to improve students critical thinking skills and the implementation of learning activities by using Problem-Based Learning model is effective because students could be more understand about the materials and encourage them to solve problems independently or in groups. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Online Reading Course, Critical Thinking Skills.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic took place, the issue that teachers face, particularly in the regions, is a lack of knowledge in creating learning media that can be used in online learning. To overcome this problem, our team held training on making Google Form for elementary school teachers. The method we provide in this community service activity is by providing direct training to elementary school teachers and providing assistance in making learning media using the Google Form. The results of this service activity are that the teachers who participated in the training understood the technique of using, creating, and designing their own Google Form according to the needs of each subject as an online learning medium; all the teachers who participated in the training were happy, interested, and very enthusiastic about the Google Form training activities; and the results of the questionnaire completed by the teachers who attended the training showed that 90% of the teachers would apply Google Form as a medium of learning in teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

Teaching and learning process can be easily conducted due to technological developments. The development and application of information technology is also beneficial for the world of education. The purpose of this study is to assist in the integration of technology and its influence on students' attitudes in distance learning during the Covid 19 pandemic. The method of conducting this report is qualitatively descriptive study and the implementation of the service is carried out with two stages, that is the first is mentoring and the second is data retrieval through interviews and questionnaires addressed to students. The results of the implementation of this assessment show that there are many technological concerns about student attitudes, and technology can affect students' attitudes positively or negatively. Among the positive influences of technology on students are that it can increase creativity in using technology, feel more curious about technology and can affect the attitude of cooperation in student self-development. As for the negative impact that affects students, students find it quite difficult to understand the material provided by the teacher. The results of the assistances showed that the positive impact was more dominant than the negative impact experienced by students.

Abstract

Wellbeing is undoubtedly important in education and has become the focus of program orientation in some institution. As a hidden curriculum, all lecturers should apply their own techniques to promote student wellbeing. This study is trying to identify the index of students' wellbeing and the influencing factors. There were 34 students as the participants of the study. The data was taken by distributing questionnaire and conducting an interview. The result showed that student wellbeing index reached 75.5, under good category. There are two factors that constitute student wellbeing; the supporting factors and the obstacle factors. The supporting factors identified are lecturers, study program, friends, and future career. The obstacle factors are online learning, student-self competences, and assignment or material. This study recommended the institution to maintain and improve student wellbeing index by promoting explicit design of wellbeing teaching learning process in its curriculum.

Abstract

Among the effort to provide favorable circumstances for students to study English while becoming familiar with the concepts of character values that are commonly encountered in the content of Islamic teaching materials is the incorporation of character education into English language teaching. To determine how well students are doing academically and how well they comprehend the integrated character concepts included in Islamic teaching materials, accordingly, are the goals of the current study. At one of Islamic universities in Bogor, Indonesia, this study was undertaken in the English Education Program. This research employed quasi-experimental method, and the instruments used were a test and an interview. According to the research findings, after conducting four month learning class, there is an improvement in students' achievement between pre-test and post-test in experimental groups following treatment. It indicates that Islamic materials can contribute much more to students' achievements. Furthermore, the students' understandings of integrated character values are primarily concerned with some characters: religion, honesty, independence, curiosity, friendliness, and responsibility. Students not only comprehended, but could also implement the character qualities in actual life.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out some relevant theories and research relating to managing the EYL students in learning Vocabulary using short Islamic stories. The method used is Systematic Literature Review. The result of the study shows that the use of Islamic short stories offers a comprehensive method of moral and spiritual instruction. These narratives efficiently communicate moral ideals, ethical concepts, and spiritual lessons in an approachable and interesting way by leveraging the power of storytelling. These tales, which are inspired by Islamic history and heritage, encourage cultural sensitivity and a strong sense of Islamic identity. Islamic short stories are a wonderful tool for building good character characteristics and spiritual development because of their capacity to impact hearts and minds. Islamic short stories convey moral quandaries and show the effects of various decisions, making them a valuable resource for moral instruction. Characters that encounter difficulties and make judgments based on Islamic principles like honesty, compassion, and justice are frequently featured in these stories.
