Abstract

Among the effort to provide favorable circumstances for students to study English while becoming familiar with the concepts of character values that are commonly encountered in the content of Islamic teaching materials is the incorporation of character education into English language teaching. To determine how well students are doing academically and how well they comprehend the integrated character concepts included in Islamic teaching materials, accordingly, are the goals of the current study. At one of Islamic universities in Bogor, Indonesia, this study was undertaken in the English Education Program. This research employed quasi-experimental method, and the instruments used were a test and an interview. According to the research findings, after conducting four month learning class, there is an improvement in students' achievement between pre-test and post-test in experimental groups following treatment. It indicates that Islamic materials can contribute much more to students' achievements. Furthermore, the students' understandings of integrated character values are primarily concerned with some characters: religion, honesty, independence, curiosity, friendliness, and responsibility. Students not only comprehended, but could also implement the character qualities in actual life.

Abstract

Vocabulary plays a crucial role in communication and is considered one of the important aspects of the English language. Insufficient vocabulary knowledge can impede the process of learning English. Technology can serve as a valuable option for learning English vocabulary, as it provides various resources such as language learning apps that can enhance vocabulary and language skills. Quizlet is one such application that assists students in learning vocabulary concepts interactively and enjoyably. Student perceptions in learning activities are important things to know. This study aims to find out how students perceive the use of the Quizlet application in learning vocabulary whether they have negative or positive perceptions. This study uses qualitative methods in data collection. Ten students from grade seven became participants in this study. Researchers used two instruments, namely questionnaires and interviews. After distributing the questionnaires to students, the researcher also conducted interviews with five students to obtain more detailed information. The results showed that students had a positive perception of using Quizlet.

Abstract

Islamic literature, history, and customs are common subjects and resources incorporated into effective English teaching in Islamic nations since they are relevant to the culture. The aims of this study are to explore the integration of Islamic education in English language teaching as well as how teachers can teach English by instilling Islamic values to develop good character in their students. This study involves a systematic literature review (SLR). An SLR requires significant searching across multiple article databases as well as additional journal databases such as Google Scholar to supplement and expand the main database. The next step involved obtaining and locating additional supplies manually. This step entailed reading pieces of literature for which the only information provided was the author, source, or title. The study reveals that understanding culture and society can help integrate religious teaching into ELT. It is critical to understand the cultural and theological context. Teachers who are knowledgeable of Islamic customs, values, and sensitivities should teach them in the classroom. Moreover, to provide students with a well-rounded education, Islamic principles and ethics can be integrated into English language classes. Teachers can explore issues and subjects that are in line with Islamic principles while encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and intercultural understanding.

Abstract

The process of learning English in Indonesia is structured in such a way as to enable students to master the ability to listen, speak, read and write the language. Unfortunately, this language learning method is not compatible with religious learning methods. The following discussion will further explain the objectives of this research which examines Islamic Education in English Teaching. The keywords used to find articles in the database are “Islamic Education in English Teaching”. The search results found 50 publications, then 12 manuscripts were selected that met the criteria for analysis. The reporting items selected for systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses are inclusion and exclusion models. In the last three years, the number of publications was dominated by 2020 with a total of 5 articles published. The research subjects used by the researchers consisted of 3rd grade elementary school students, 7th grade elementary school students, 8th grade junior high school students, a combination of middle school and high school students, 11th grade high school students, and university students. There are 12 research contributions that can be reflected in the English language learning process which is integrated with Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' experiences with comprehensive reading strategies using Wattpad. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data are collected using interviews, observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The analysis of this research uses a triangulation technique which consists of steps; data reduction, data display, and ultimately conclusion to analyze the data. The results of this study indicate that extensive reading through Wattpad can be used for pleasure, extensive reading through the Wattpad platform can reduce stress, extensive reading through Wattpad can increase motivation, and extensive reading through Wattpad can increase vocabulary. All of these activities can have a positive impact on students. Plus, Wattpad's platform is great for in-depth reading. Therefore, one of the best ways to learn English is to read extensively on the Wattpad platform. Teachers should realize that because Wattpad is a practical reading tool that can be accessed anywhere and at any time, all the stories students read must be age-appropriate.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine social media users' perspectives on learning English using social media. This study collects data using a qualitative descriptive approach, with questionnaires distributed to 26 social media users who are learning English through social media. The data collected through a set of questionnaires can be summarized as follows: 1) The majority of respondents agreed that their English skills improved as a result of using social media; 2) The majority of respondents agreed that they frequently get new vocabulary from social media; 3) The majority of respondents agreed that they can improve their speaking using the duet feature on social media; and 4) The majority of respondents agreed that they can get English material on social media; 5) The majority of respondents agree they enjoy learning English using social media; 6) The majority of respondent use of social media makes it easier to learn English. Therefore, the use of social media provides benefits for its user to learn English.

Abstract

The article examines the significant importance of knowledge (Ilm) in Islam, emphasizing its critical role in personal and societal growth. Drawing on Qur'anic texts and Hadith, it emphasizes the Islamic need to pursue knowledge in both religious and general areas. Using a literature review approach, the discussion focuses on the ethical implications of learning, the relationship between knowledge and faith, and Muslim intellectuals' historical contributions to subjects such as physics, philosophy, and medicine. Islam promotes a comprehensive approach to education that encourages personal growth, ethical behavior, and society improvement by combining spiritual and intellectual activities. Islamic education, which integrates both spiritual and physical knowledge, is essential in forming moral and spiritual character. It places a heavy emphasis on lifelong learning and encourages people to cultivate a solid ethical basis and sense of moral responsibility. The goal is to create well-rounded, knowledgeable people who also exhibit characteristics like discipline, respect, and morality. By ensuring that intellectual development is balanced with moral and spiritual responsibilities, this all-encompassing approach equips people to meet societal challenges and make constructive contributions to their communities.

Abstract

The Islamization of knowledge (IoK) is the process of merging Islamic beliefs with modern academic subjects to produce knowledge that is both ethical and scientific. It seeks to match education with Islamic beliefs, demonstrating how all knowledge leads to a deeper comprehension of Allah's creation. Despite problems such as misunderstandings within the Muslim community and opposition from secular education systems, IoK can be adopted by modifying curricula, training instructors, and fostering research that combines modern and Islamic knowledge. Using the literature review approach, the conclusion is that transforming education is critical to the Islamization of knowledge. By empowering instructors, introducing Islamic beliefs into courses, and encouraging original research, educational institutions may generate a generation that is both morally and intellectually competent. To ensure that education becomes a tool for addressing contemporary concerns while upholding Islamic ideals, this reform is required to align the pursuit of knowledge with ethical and spiritual accountability while also addressing global issues such as poverty and social justice, ensuring that knowledge serves humanity and promotes fairness, sustainability, and compassion. Finally, IoK provides a solution to today's challenges while encouraging intellectual and spiritual progress.

Abstract

This paper aimed at explaining the functions of the Al-Quran as a blessing and guidance for mankind, especially for Muslims in this world. It is the duty of the scholars at any time to find the existing arguments and process them with the right to provide legal certainty to problems that arise in time. To know the law of a problem based on the most appropriate arguments, it is necessary to update the right one, namely the Al-Quran because it has covered all problems in life. The result of this study showed that the Al-Quran is a light that appears in the hearts of Muslims, which breaks the flower of faith, appears in life so that it becomes light, rises to the heavens of mankind so that a plan of peace and guidance appears to humans to introduce their status and obligations, then lead to the straight path. This statement means that Al-Quran is guidance for humans. The function of Al-Quran globally is as a principle of the Islamic religion, in which there is the principle of every science in human language past and present and the future. Al-Quran is more than just a Holy Book, it is also a very useful book or a perfect reference.
