Abstract

Traffic-related accidents involving university students, particularly those aged 18–25, have become a growing concern in Indonesia, with many incidents occurring due to inadequate infrastructure and lack of traffic discipline in densely populated campus environments. This community service program was initiated by Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (UDINUS) in Semarang to address these challenges through the establishment of a “Campus Safety Riding Zone.” The program aimed to increase road safety awareness, promote safe behavior among students and residents, and improve campus-area traffic infrastructure. Activities included coordination with local authorities, painting red-marked safe zones and zebra crossings, installing speed limit signs (30 km/h), and distributing an educational pocketbook titled “Crossing Etiquette on Campus” The intervention area, located on Nakula I Street, was selected due to its high traffic volume between the subdistrict office and UDINUS Building A. Post-intervention observations indicated that drivers generally reduced their speed when entering the safety zone, although issues like improper parking persisted. The initiative demonstrated that a combination of infrastructure enhancement, community education, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can effectively foster a safer traffic culture in university environments. This model offers a replicable framework for other higher education institutions to support student and pedestrian safety through community-based strategies.

Abstract

Abstract

According to a survey conducted by Kemendikbudristek, the majority of sexual violence took place in universities, 65 incidences of sexual violence occurred in universities in July 2023. The research sample was students of one of the campuses in the city of Semarang and 468 people completed it. This study aims to determine the understanding of lecturers, teaching staff and students at campus regarding sexual violence. This study is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional research approach and a descriptive research design using primary data. The respondents were mostly students (97%) from the Faculty of Health (24.3%) and female (61.5%). The majority of respondents (97.9%) claimed to have heard of sexual violence and to be familiar with its concept. Non-physical sexual violence, including verbal abuse and sensual look, was selected as a form of sexual assault by 268 respondents (57.3%). The reason respondents not report sexual harasseent because respondents believe that sexual violence cases are private issues that should not be disclosed to others. 88.5% respondents of the sample answered its crucial to avoid sexual violence on theuniversity campus. Among the preventative measures that university campus may implement to stop sexual violence, respondents recommended a safe and private reporting system (45.3%). In order to report or handle sexual violence cases, respondents recommended a hotline that is available at all times (22.4%).

Abstract

Abstract

Weather variability influences the occurrence of medical emergencies that require rapid response, particularly in urban areas with high population density. This study aimed to analyze the effects of temperature, relative humidity, and rainfall on the number of daily PSC 119 calls in Semarang City. An ecological time-series design was applied using daily call records and meteorological data collected over 365 days in 2024, analyzed with a Distributed Lag Non-linear Model combined with quasi-Poisson regression to estimate risks across lag periods. The results show that both low and high temperatures substantially increased the risk of PSC 119 calls compared with the reference temperature. Moderate humidity was associated with higher risk, while very high humidity demonstrated a protective effect. Rainfall, particularly no-rain to light-rain conditions, also contributed to increased call frequency. Most weather-related effects occurred within 0–3 days, indicating an acute pattern of influence. These findings highlight the importance of integrating weather prediction into emergency preparedness systems to support workforce planning, resource allocation, and operational response. Further studies incorporating call-type classifications and additional environmental variables are recommended to improve understanding of weather-related emergency service demand.
