Abstract

Research on the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Roscoe ex Sm.) against Streptococcus pneumoniae has been carried out using the disc diffusion method. Streptococcus pneumoniae is a bacterium that can cause respiratory tract infections (ARI), in its handling, people use antibiotics. Antibiotics themselves if used continuously lead to resistance. Currently, there are many studies regarding traditional medicines as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to determine the secondary metabolite content of lempuyang elephant rhizome and to determine the antibacterial activity of lempuyang extract on Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. The method used in this research is the diffusion method with paper discs to determine the inhibitory power. The lempuyang plants used were obtained from the village of Tegal Bulu Banyuwangi and isolates of S. pneumoniae were obtained from the Central Health Laboratory (BBLK) Surabaya. The concentrations of the extracts used were 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% with a positive control of chloramphenicol. The results showed that the ethanol extract of lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Roscoe ex Sm.) could inhibit the growth of S. pneumoniae bacteria, which was known from the inhibition zone formed. The inhibition test showed that the higher the concentration of lempuyang extract, the larger the diameter of the inhibitor formed. In lempuyang, the highest inhibition diameter was found at a concentration of 100% at 43.9 ± 3.6 mm. The results of phytochemical testing showed that the ethanol extract of lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet(L.) Roscoe ex Sm.) contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, phenolics, and tannins.

Abstract

Tingginya angka prevalensi stunting di Indonesia dan setiap tahun meningkat. Oleh sebab itu perlu solusi untuk membantu mengurangi angka perkembangan stunting di Indonesia. Salah satunya dengan perbaikan nutrisi bagi bayi atau balita. Pemanfaatan bahan alami seperti sayur atau buah yang ada disekitar bisa dilakukan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi bayi dan balita. Daun kelor memiliki nilai tinggi yang dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan dasar makanan tambahan seperti camilan bagi bayi atau balita. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat adalah meningkatkan pemahaman dan pengetahuan dengan memberikan penyuluhan, pelatihan dalam mengolah makanan bergizi berbahan dasar daun kelor dengan inovasi terbaru untuk pertumbuhan balita dan anak-anak sehingga dapat mencegah stunting. Metode yang dilakukan antara lain sosialisasi materi, praktek pembuatan makanan, memberikan leaflet kepada peserta. Sasaran dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yaitu ibu-ibu di Desa Berbek Kecematan Waru, Sidoarjo. Tempat pengabdian masyarakat di kediaman ibu Dra. Hj. Zainab. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dengan sosialisasi terkait stunting dan pencegahannya terbukti efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman ibu-ibu di Desa berbek kecamatan waru Sidoarjo. Kegiatan inti dari penyuluhan ini adalah edukasi terkait stunting dan pencegahannya melalui daun kelor. Rekomendasi dari kegiatan pengabdian masyaraat ini dengan pemahaman ibu-ibu yang sudah semakin baik diharapkan dapat diapilikasikan pada kehidupan, sehingga dapat membantu penurunan kasus stunting khususnya di wilayah Desa Berbek Kecamatan Waru Sidoarjo. Kemudian pembentukan sumber daya manusia yang berkualitas, memiliki fisik dan intelektual yang tinggi juga diharapkan penurunan kasus stunting.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus type II (DT2) is a disorder of insulin function (insulin resistance) caused by 2 factors, i.e. environmental and genetic factors. Previous studies have identified the presence of specific alleles that differentiate between DT2 and non-DT2 sufferers. Identification of the allele indicated leucine rich repeats and guanylate kinase domain containing (LRGUK) gene. The aim of this research was to design a specific primer to amplify LRGUK gene. The primer design was based on a 576 bp nucleotide base and added 100 bp in the 5'  and 100 bp in the 3' direction using NCBI-Primer BLAST. The primers produced were selected based on eight criteria’s. The results were validated with 6 samples of DT2 patients and visualized using agarose gel. The results of the analysis showed that the primers Forward 5'-TCCTACTCTGTGTCCTTCCTTG-3' and Reverse 5'-GTGGTGACAAGGAGG TTTGC-3' were able to amplify specifically with a length of 687 bp.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and summarize the findings from studies related to the effects of butterfly pea flowers (Clitoria ternatea L.) on human health, particularly those related to their therapeutic properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and relaxing effects. The research method used in this study is Systematic Literature Review (SLR). This approach was chosen because of its ability to systematically identify, evaluate, and summarize relevant research results on butterfly pea flowers. Article searches were conducted through academic databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies that discuss the effects of butterfly pea flowers on human health. Based on the analysis results of various existing studies, butterfly pea flowers show great potential in supporting human health. The content of bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, and alkaloids, provides various significant therapeutic benefits. Flavonoids and anthocyanins have strong antioxidant properties, play a role in fighting free radicals, and preventing oxidative damage that can cause degenerative diseases. In addition, these compounds have anti-inflammatory effects that are beneficial in managing inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, asthma, and heart disease. Butterfly pea flowers also show neuroprotective effects that can protect nerve cells, improve cognitive function, and protect the brain from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Alkaloids in butterfly pea flowers also have a relaxing effect that can help reduce anxiety and stress, and improve mental well-being. Although the results obtained are very promising, most studies are still limited to laboratory or animal trials, and further research, especially clinical trials in humans, is needed to confirm their effectiveness, proper dosage, and long-term safety.

Abstract

Burnout merupakan sindrom stres yang berhubungan dengan pekerjaan, seperti kelelahan emosional, sinisme dan ketidakefektifan profesional. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh Burnout Tenaga Kesehatan Terhadap Kualitas Pelayanan Di Rumah Sakit Bhayangkara Pusdik Sabhara Sidoarjo. Desain penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan menggunakan metode cross sectional study. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh burnout tenaga kesehatan terhadap kualitas pelayanan di Rumah Sakit Bhayangkara Pusdik Sabhara Sidoarjo. Pada kategori burnout cukup dan burnout sedang terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dengan kualitas pelayanan, namun pada kategori burnout tinggi tidak terdapat pengaruh dengan kualitas pelayanan.

Abstract

Dengue Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by infection with the Dengue virus, from the family Flaviridae and genus Flavivirus. Dengue virus consists of 4 serotypes. The virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, especially Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. In detecting dengue virus infection, laboratory examinations can be carried out such as platelet count, NS1Ag and dengue IgG IgM. The method used is a literature study by finding references from relevant journals. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between platelet levels and NS1Ag parameters in dengue hemorrhagic fever patients. And there is no relationship between clinical symptoms and NS1Ag parameters in dengue hemorrhagic fever patients. fever patients.

Abstract

Air sangat penting bagi kelangsungan hidup manusia, karena manusia sebagai makhluk hidup sangat membutuhkannya. Air minum adalah air yang sudah mengalami atau tidak mengalami proses pengolahan, namun tetap memenuhi standar kesehatan dan aman untuk langsung dikonsumsi. Salah satu syarat kriteria yang untuk memenuhi standar air minum yang berkualitas yakni kriteria biologis yang terbebas dari kontaminasi bakteri, terutama yang bersifat patogen. Pemeriksaan mikrobiologi belum diajarkan pada sekolah SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pandaan. Melihat kondisi tersebut, tim pengabdi masyarakat TLM UMSIDA bekerja sama dengan SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pandaan memberikan pelatihan pemeriksaan mikrobiologi dari sampel air minum. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan pada Juli-Agustus 2024 yang diikuti 53 siswa/i.. Hasil analisis dari kegiatan ini yaitu meningkatnya pemahaman dari siswa/i mengenai pemeriksaan mikrobiologi dari sampel air minum.

Abstract

General Background: Tinea unguium is a nail plate infection commonly caused by dermatophyte fungi, frequently affecting individuals exposed to moist and contaminated environments. Specific Background: Builders are one of the occupational groups at high risk due to their constant contact with damp, dirty, and unhygienic surroundings. Knowledge Gap: Despite its prevalence, limited studies have focused on identifying specific dermatophyte species responsible for toenail infections among construction workers in Bangkalan, Madura. Aims: This study aimed to identify dermatophyte fungi causing Tinea unguium in the toenails of builders in Bangkalan. Results: Using a descriptive cross-sectional design with 28 purposively selected nail samples, findings revealed infections in 18 participants by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermatophyton floccosum, while 10 samples showed non-dermatophyte fungi (Aspergillus sp. and Scopulariopsis). Novelty: This research provides the first documentation of both dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi associated with toenail infections among builders in this region. Implications: The findings underscore the need for occupational health awareness and preventive strategies targeting fungal nail infections among construction workers. Highlights: First identification of toenail dermatophytes in builders of Bangkalan. Found both dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi species. Abstract

Saluran pernapasan merupakan organ tubuh manusia yang banyak mengandung populasi bakteri (sekitar 13 spesies) yang dapat menjadi patogen seperti Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Streptococcus pneumoniae. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya upaya mengendalikan Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Streptococcus pneumoniae dengan bahan dari bahan alam, salah satunya yaitu pare (Momordica charantia Linn). Buah pare (Momordica charantia Linn) telah terbukti khasiatnya sebagai obat yang memiliki kandungan senyawa seperti alkaloid, saponin, fenolik, streoid, flavonoid, dan tanin yang memiliki kemampuan sebagai antibakteri. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental. Dengan metode difusi kertas cakram atau Kirby-Bauer dengan 5 konsentrasi yaitu : 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, dan digunakan antibiotik kloramfenikol sebagai (kontrol+). Pengujian dilakukan sebanyak 3 kali pengulangan. Data yang peroleh kemudian diuji menggunakan uji Anova one way dengan nilai signifikansi 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak segar buah pare efektif terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Streptococcus pneumoniae. Konsentrasi optimum pada bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae diperoleh pada konsentrasi 100% dengan diameter sebesar 21,31 mm dan konsentrasi 80% dengan diameter sebesar 22,36 mm pada bakteri Streptococcus pneumoniae, sedangkan hasil uji ANOVA one way yang telah dilakukan terhadap diameter zona hambat bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Streptococcus pneumoniae diperoleh nilai signifikan p=0,000 dari hasil tersebut diketahui bahwa nilai <0,05 yang menunjukkan ada pengaruh yang nyata dari pemberian ekstrak segar buah pare terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Streptococcus pneumoniae.
