Potensi Antibakteri Madu Multiflora dan Bee Pollen dari Lebah Madu Eropa (Apis mellifera) dalam Menghambat Pertumbuhan Cutibacterium acnes Jannah, Vita Wardah Nur; Rini, Chylen Setiyo

Abstract

Jerawat adalah kondisi kulit di mana pori-pori tersumbat oleh minyak dan sel kulit mati, serta aktivitas bakteri C. acnes. Madu multiflora dan bee pollen merupakan produk lebah yang mengandung senyawa bioaktif dan memiliki sifat antibakteri. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik difusi cakram dengan pengulangan sebanyak tiga kali (n=3) dengan konsentrasi 25% b/v, 50% b/v, 75% b/v, dan 100% b/v untuk madu dan bee pollen, serta kombinasi dengan perbandingan 1MM:3BP, 1MM:1BP, 3MM:1BP, tetrasiklin 50 mg/ml sebagai kontrol positif dan aquades steril sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa madu, bee pollen, dan kombinasinya memiliki potensi antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan C. acnes. Madu multiflora dan bee pollen memiliki penghambatan terkuat pada konsentrasi 100%, yaitu 27,71 mm (kategori kuat) untuk madu multiflora dan 18,26 mm (kategori sedang) untuk bee pollen. Kombinasi 3MM:1BP memberikan zona hambat tertinggi sebesar 29,81 mm (kategori kuat) dan menunjukkan hasil yang lebih efektif dibanding madu, bee pollen, dan kombinasi lainnya.

Abstract

General Background: Oral hygiene is necessary to prevent microbial growth, and salt solutions are widely used as natural antibacterial agents. Specific Background: Table salt and Himalayan black salt are commonly used in oral care, but their antibacterial activity at different concentrations requires comparison. Knowledge Gap: Comparative in-vitro evaluation of both salts against oral pathogenic bacteria across multiple concentrations remains limited. Aims: This study compares antibacterial activity of table salt and Himalayan black salt solutions at concentrations of 5%–25% against Streptococcus mutans and Klebsiella pneumoniae using disc diffusion testing. Results: Table salt at 15% produced very strong inhibition against Streptococcus mutans, while Himalayan black salt at 25% showed moderate inhibition. Against Klebsiella pneumoniae, table salt at 20% and Himalayan black salt at 25% demonstrated moderate inhibition. Two-way ANOVA showed significant differences between salt types, while post hoc analysis showed no significant differences among concentrations. Novelty: This study provides graded concentration comparison of two salt types using repeated diffusion testing. Implications: The findings support table salt solution as a natural antibacterial option for oral hygiene and provide laboratory-based reference for natural antimicrobial materials. Highlights: Concentration 15% Solution Produced the Strongest Inhibition Zone Against Cariogenic Bacteria. Abstract

Diarrhea is a disease caused by pathogenic microorganism infections, one of which is E.coli, which is a serious problem because it can cause death. One alternative treatment utilizes natural ingredients. This experimental study aims to test the effectiveness of pumpkin (C.moschata) extract processed using the steaming and infusion methods on the growth of E. coli bacteria. The yellow squash samples used were sourced from the Larangan market in Sidoarjo, with criteria of freshness and yellow color. The inhibition test was conducted using the Kirby-Bauer method, repeated three times, with extract concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, a positive control of chloramphenicol, and a negative control of sterile distilled water. The results showed that all extracts exhibited increased antibacterial activity with increasing concentration, with the largest inhibition zone at a concentration of 100%, namely 12.55 mm for steamed pumpkin flesh and 11.61 mm for steamed pumpkin seeds.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem and is often associated with comorbidities such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM). DM can impair immune response and may delay sputum smear conversion during TB treatment. This study aimed to analyze the difference in Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear conversion at the 2nd and 5th months between TB patients with DM and those without DM. This study used a descriptive comparative design with secondary data from TB patients recorded in 2023–2024 at the Sepulu Community Health Center Laboratory, Bangkalan, Madura. A total of 117 patients met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with SPSS version 25. The results showed a significant difference in AFB smear conversion between TB-DM and TB non-DM patients. At the 2nd month, a significant difference was found (p < 0.001). Similarly, at the 5th month, a significant difference was observed (p = 0.009). TB patients with DM tended to experience slower sputum smear conversion compared with patients without DM. These findings indicate that Diabetes Mellitus may influence the effectiveness of TB treatment, particularly in the sputum conversion phase.
