Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) has become a national flagship commodity from the aquaculture sector, because it has wide market opportunities, both domestically and abroad. Vannamei shrimp cultivation in Central Tapanuli Regency has begun to be carried out and has developed quite rapidly since the last few years. The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of water quality on the growth of vannamei shrimp in the shrimp pond industry of PT. Berkat Kasih Karunia in Central Tapanuli Regency, analyzed environmental factors that affect the survival rate (SR) of vannamei shrimp and to identify water quality parameters that affect the growth of vannamei shrimp in shrimp ponds of PT. Berkat Kasih Karunia. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. A number of the parameters measured include absolute weight growth and absolute length, survival (SR), water quality in the form of temperature, pH, DO, brightness and salinity. The results showed thant for the growth in weight ranging from 8,0 – 8,3 g and in length between 6,5 – 6,8 cm, respectively, in which considered optimal under the condition of maintained water quality. The water quality ranged as foloow: temperature 28,9–29,0 0C, pH 7,5-7,7, dissolved oxygen (DO) 5,8-6,1 (mg/l), brightness 38,4-39,0 cm, and salinity 19,5-20,0 ppt. This range of parameters supported the physiological activity of the shrimp, and the absolute growth of vannamei shrimp during the study. The survival rate (SR) of vannamei shrimp of 98% indicates the success of pond water quality management. It also indicates that the pond environment is free from the excessive environmental stress, such as extreme salinity, low oxygen, or phatogenic attack.

Abstract

The need for fishery products that are healthy, safe, legal, sustainable, and democratic from time to time continues to increase. This makes the export destination country require a certificate issued by an institution. One of the standards used by such countries is the MSC ecolabel. MSC ecolabel is an endorsement of a product that meets the criteria of environmental sustainability procedures and hasbeen well managed. Ecolabel identifies fisheries governance properly based on established criteria, relating to the utilization of fishery resources and marine ecosystems. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an assessment related to the application of MSC ecolabels in the Sibolga tuna processing industry. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of gap (gap analysis) and the suitability of the application of the MSC ecolabel and examine various inhibiting factors. This research was conducted using survey methods and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with industry and Sibolga Archipelago Fishing Port. The analysis used was qualitative descriptive analysis, gap analysis, and conformity level analysis. The results showed that the level of conformity in the MSC CoC of 5 (five) criteria, only 1 criterion was in accordance with the standard, while the other four had not, with the level of conformity being 63.75%, 83.25%, 66.75, and 57.25%. The results of the assessment of the inhibiting factors were obtained from fishermen, processing industries, and government support. Keywords: MSC CoC, Sibolga, traceability, yellow fin tuna.

Abstract

Pangasianodon hypophthalmus grows well in a dark tank completed with an aquaponic system. To improve the growth, a feed supplement made from Moringa oleifera might be used as it is rich in protein, vitamins A, B, C, and minerals. To understand the effect of M.oleifera addition in the feed of fish, research has been conducted in June-July 2022. M. oleifera leaves were dried and powdered and then mixed with commercial fish feed pellets. There were 4 treatments of M. oleifera dosages, namely T0 (no M. oleifera), T1 (10 g/kg), T2 (15 g/kg), and T3 (20 g/kg). The fish was reared in a 100L container (30 fishes/tank, around 4 g BW and 8 cm TL), covered with a dark-colored tarp, and completed with the aquaponic system using Ipomoea aquatica. The feed was given 2 times/day, ad libitum. Samplings were conducted once/10 days, for 40 days. Results showed that the survival of fish in all treatments was 93.3 – 98.89%. The growth of fish, however, was different. There was no difference in fish body weight (BW), total length (TL), and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed with Moringa, they were around 23.5 g BW, 5.8 cm TL, and 4.3 cm SGR respectively. While those of the control fish were 13.0 g BW, 4.23 cm TL, and 2.89% per day SGR respectively. The fish that was fed with Moringa-enriched pellets showed the highest Feed Efficiency (90.42-97.46%) and the lowest FCR (1.03 – 1.11). While in the fish that was not fed with Moringa showed the lowest FE (75.48%) and the highest FCR (1.33%). Data obtained indicate that Moringa positively improves the growth of fish as well as improving feed efficiency.
