Abstract

The focus of this research is how remittances from Madura to Jakarta affect the spending habits of families left behind. Six people are available for interview. From the interviews, the informants shared the experiences of the families and the migrants themselves in managing the remittances earned. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. The results of the interviews show that families are very happy and supportive of their members becoming circular migrant workers. This happens because of the limited job opportunities available in Madura, and the needs of life that must be met. Before a family member migrated to work, the family's life was so poor that they could not fulfill some family needs. But after a family member migrated, their economic life and even social life became better. The money earned by the family is used not only for consumption of daily needs, but the family prioritizes investment and most of them invest by buying gold, jewelry, land, and opening or expanding existing businesses. In addition, the families also prioritize their children's education so that they can go to school to the highest level possible.

Abstract

The services sector is a very important one which has the largest percentage of informal entrepreneurs compared to other sectors in Indonesia. However, this sector experienced the most significant decrease in welfare due to the pandemic attack in 2020. Using the 2020 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) data, this study aims to link the role of internet use, which was highly developed during the pandemic, to increasing the welfare of informal entrepreneurs in the services sector. Based on the results of binary logistic regression, (1) The use of the internet, especially for the purpose of transaction activities, has the greatest influence in supporting the welfare of informal services sector entrepreneurs, and (2) Opportunities to obtain higher welfare are owned by male entrepreneurs, with ever-married status, are more educated, have white-collar and gray-collar types of work, have skills, and live in areas with better infrastructure. Therefore, it is necessary to have a program to increase digital literacy, especially in activities that support business activities which can be carried out through training or mentoring, especially for services sector entrepreneurs who have a lower level of education, are less skilled, and for areas with a lower level of infrastructure.

Abstract

Sukodono Village in Malang Regency has rich resource potential, but faces branding and optimization challenges. The level of community literacy related to science and technology is still low, affecting the development of a sustainable coffee ecotourism business model. Assistance in community empowerment in Sukodono Village, by developing a coffee ecotourism business model through a business model canvas (BMC), can be a solution to this problem. Coffee ecotourism development begins with a branding process through existing promotional media, including village maps, websites, and taglines to increase the popularity of Sukodono Village as a coffee ecotourism destination. Improving the quality of creative local human resources must also be encouraged so that they can apply modern business models in an effort to increase the competitiveness of the area.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused a social and economic crisis in every country, leading to economic shocks that can be observed through the movement of the Composite Stock Price Index (CSPI) and Exchange Rate (ER). To determine the economic conditions of four Southeast Asian countries, this study aims to examine their exchange rates and CSPI. However, the pandemic has made economic factors unpredictable since every country has responded differently to it. The research focuses on Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand from 2013 to 2022, using Vector Autoregression Model (VAR) modeling to analyze the relationship between the variables and their movements. The study found that exchange rate changes in the previous two periods significantly influence exchange rate changes in the four countries, and changes in exchange rates and JCI in Indonesia and Thailand affect subsequent changes with a longer time horizon. The study's results emphasize the importance of tailoring economic management based on each country's unique economic characteristics and taking measures to stabilize the exchange rate and CSPI movement. Policymakers and investors should consider the findings of this study to make informed economic decisions, especially in anticipating the impact of sudden exchange rate fluctuations and their potential long-term consequences.

Abstract

MSMEs are one of Indonesia’s national main economic pillars, with the contribution of those in Sidoarjo alone in 2019 of IDR 1.6 trillion. However, their business had to be disrupted by the rocketing cases of Corona Virus Disease (Covid) not long after. They had to struggle with sales decrease, raw material scarcity, distribution clogging, capital deficiency, and production reduction due to labor layoffs. This research aims to identify factors that influence the sustainability of MSMEs in Sidoarjo and measures required by them in order to maintain their sustainability during the pandemic. The scope of this study is the effects of business owner’s resources, environmental carrying capacity, financial management, and communication and information technology usage on the sustainability of MSMEs in Sidoarjo Regency. This research applies multivariate regression analysis and SmartPLS 4 as the statistical tools. The results of the analysis indicate that communication and information technology usage and environmental carrying capacity have significant effects on the sustainability of MSMEs in Sidoarjo during the Covid-19 pandemic, but business owner’s resources and financial management have no significant influence. Therefore, it can be concluded that capital aids, tax incentives, internal support from family, access to information technology, and digital marketing can support the sustainability of MSMEs in Sidoarjo during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Technological developments are changing society's paradigm from conventional traditions to the digital era, making it possible to fulfill daily needs via smartphone devices. E-Wallet, as a form of digital wallet, is an important phenomenon that is influenced by companies in improving the quality of their applications. Payments with electronic money bring efficiency and a modern lifestyle, the impact of which can be seen in more impulsive consumer behavior. This research aims to explore the deeper impact of using E-Wallets on consumer behavior in the context of ease of transactions, and the extent to which this convenience can change shopping patterns into consumer behavior among the people of East Java who use E-wallets. The research method used is a quantitative approach with surveys (distributing questionnaires), and using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The results of this research imply that the ease of use of E-Wallet not only provides transaction efficiency but also economic potential for consumers in East Java. Price and habit factors influence consumer behavior more than E-Wallet performance expectations. Therefore, these findings provide valuable guidance for E-Wallet service providers to design appropriate and effective strategies in the East Java market.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the growth of fintech companies on bank performance. The researcher expands the analysis by looking at the difference in influence between State-Owned Commercial Banks (BUMN) and Regional Development Banks (BPD) in this relationship and uses a sample of 17 banks that are included in the list of Conventional Banks in Indonesia in the 2011–2020 period. The researcher found a negative and significant relationship between the growth of FinTech firms and bank performance for both groups of banks. In addition, the researcher tested the hypothesis through several additional tests and robustness tests, such as the GMM. The findings of this study may be relevant for banks, policy makers and academic research.
