Abstract

This research discussed the self-defense mechanism found in the main character in The Blind Side movie by John Lee Hancock. The writer focused on the analysis of the main character in the movie, named Big Mike. The results of this research indicate that there are several actions taken by the main character towards building self-defense mechanisms. There are eight kinds of self-defense mechanisms in Big Mike's character, namely repression, reaction formation, displacement, rationalization, sublimation, aggression, fantasy, and denial, which represent how Big Mike's character tries to adapt to his new life and protect those closest to him. To achieve the research objectives, the writer uses literary criticism in analyzing Big Mike's character as well as psychological approaches and the theory of self-defense mechanisms proposed by Freud. The primary data for this study was collected from the script and dialogue of The Blind Side movie, which was then analyzed using qualitative methods to reveal various types of self-defense mechanisms contained in the character of Big Mike.

Abstract

This research discusses about the main character’s state of mind in Pigpen webtoon through the approach of psychoanalysis in literary criticism. This research aims to analyze the types of schizophrenic experiences and desires that are reflected in the main character’s schizophrenia by using the theory of schizophrenia and Jacque Lacan’s psychoanalysis. The methodology applied in this research is the qualitative research method to elaborate on the phenomena of psychology in literary works. This analysis is supported by the data acquired from journals, books, theses, and Pigpen webtoon as the data source. The writer identifies several results from the analysis that has been done that are relevant to the idea psychology approach. First, from the theory of schizophrenia, the main character is mainly going through delusions and hallucinations. Second, through Lacan’s psychological concept of desire and identity formation, the writer found two desires in the main character: the desire to have (anaclitic desire) and the desire to be (narcissistic desire), which happened in the Imaginary and Symbolic stages. In relation to desires, it is found that the main character’s experiences of schizophrenia are influenced by his desires. The schizophrenic experiences reflected forms of the main character’s desires for fulfilment.

Abstract

This study is about the idea of toxic masculinity as reflected in The Power of The Dog by Jane Champion based on the toxic theory of masculinity by Terry A. Kupers. In Kupers' theory, masculinity has toxic characteristics in the form of misogyny, wanton violence, aggression, and dominance. The researcher uses qualitative methods in conducting this research. Researcher focused on written data in the form of scripts from movie related to toxic masculinity. The researcher uses Jan Mukarovsky's dynamic structuralism approach. There is a relationship between toxic masculinity and hegemonic masculinity. There are many toxic masculinity traits that can be found in society. However, researchers limit the properties contained in the movie. The purpose of this study is society has knowledge about the characteristics of toxic masculinity and one factor of toxic masculinity. The results of this research contained 19 data which are characteristics of toxic masculinity and factors that cause toxic masculinity. Researcher found 4 (four) data covering the characteristics of misogyny, 2 (two) data on naughty violence, 6 (six) data on aggression, and 3 (three) data on dominance and 5 (five) factors to motivate toxic masculinity. The conclusion of this research is that the idea of toxic masculinity is not only dangerous for women but also for men. And the factor of the occurrence of toxic masculinity can also be due to trauma from the past.

Abstract

The research objectives are (1) To find out the kinds of gender discrimination experienced by Jo March in the Little Women movie, and (2) To analyze how Jo March represents liberal feminism in the little women movie. The writer uses the dynamic structuralism theory by Mukarovsky. In conducting the study, the writer uses library research. The data in this study were taken from quotations such as dialogues, sentences and phrases in the movie script of Little Women as source of data. The results of the study showed that there are kinds of gender discrimination that occur in Little Women movie are discrimination in society, discrimination in education, discrimination in employement, discrimination in politics and depicting liberal feminism by facing the stereotype of women, she rejects the stereotype by proving that she can live well without marrying a rich man.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the aspects and the impacts of personal unconscious are contributed to A-Ho's personality in A Sun movie by Chung Mong-Hong. This research is included in literary criticism, which uses psychoanalysis as a theoretical approach. The research objectives to find out aspects of personal unconscious affects A-Ho's personality in A Sun movie and analyze the impacts of personal unconscious contributed to A-Ho’s personality development. The researcher uses the archetypal theory by Carl Gustav Jung. The data of this study were taken from dialogues and narration in A Sun movie. The results of the analysis show about aspects of A Ho's personal unconscious which are the main reasons for the impact of changes in A Ho's personality. The second result of this study is the impact that occurred on A Ho's personality and personal change and development in A Ho who became better because of the life problems he lived. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis aspek dan dampak ketidaksadaran pribadi yang berkontribusi terhadap kepribadian A-Ho dalam film A Sun karya Chung Mong-Hong. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam kritik sastra yang menggunakan psikoanalisis sebagai pendekatan teorinya. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek ketidaksadaran pribadi yang mempengaruhi kepribadian A-Ho dalam film A Sun dan menganalisis dampak ketidaksadaran pribadi yang berkontribusi terhadap perkembangan kepribadian A-Ho. Peneliti menggunakan teori arketipe Carl Gustav Jung. Data penelitian ini diambil dari dialog dan narasi dalam film A Sun. Hasil analisis menunjukkan tentang aspek ketidaksadaran pribadi A Ho yang menjadi penyebab utama dampak perubahan kepribadian A Ho. Hasil kedua dari penelitian ini adalah dampak yang terjadi pada kepribadian A Ho dan perubahan serta perkembangan diri A Ho yang menjadi lebih baik karena permasalahan hidup yang dijalaninya.

Abstract

Penerjemahan bahasa asing banyak digunakan dalam perdagangan, pendidikan, teknologi, pariwisata, dan lain-lain. Penerjemahan tulisan dan lisan merupakan salah satu keterampilan berkomunikasi berbahasa yang sangat penting di dunia ini. Kemampuan tersebut sangat diperlukan untuk para remaja agar dapat bersaing di dunia internasional dan mendapat peluang kerja yang lebih baik lagi. Untuk itu diperlukan pelatihan untuk mereka. Sebagai solusinya, melalui program kemitraan masyarakat (PKM) ini, tim pelaksana memberikan pelatihan penerjemahan bagi remaja Desa Deli Tua Kecamatan Namorambe. Pelatihan keterampilan bahasa yang dibentuk melalui PKM ini dipandang sangat diperlukan dan bermanfaat bagi remaja sebagai bekal untuk melakukan penerjemahan nantinya. Hasil dari pelatihan ini berdampak positif terhadap kemampuan penerjemahan dari Bahasa Inggris ke Bahasa Indonesia. Oleh sebab penilaian yang positif dari peserta, diharapkan pelatihan ini dapat dilaksanakan secara berkelanjutan dengan peningkatan kualitas yang lebih baik lagi kedepannya.

Abstract

English plays an important role in the tourism industry, especially in promoting overseas tours through tour guides. The communication that occurs between tour guides and tourists is related to the image of Indonesia by these tourists. By mastering foreign languages, as well as understanding the culture of various countries, it is expected to be able to provide the best service and be able to create a good impression or image which has the effect of increasing the Indonesian tourism industry. So in this study, functionalization of the use of English is needed so that the English language is easy to understand in order to the message conveyed by the speaker can be easily understood by the listener, especially for tour guides at Okdo Tour & Travel. The method used in this study is qualitative and data obtained through observation. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the tour guides lack of interest in honing English skills so that it affects the development of the potential that exists within the tour guides and it requires more professional English tutors so they can learn and use English in various activities.

Abstract

Because of the many social problems raised by the novel Kita Pergi Hari Ini, as well as the phenomenon of social problems in society makes the main reason for the writer to choose Kita Pergi Hari Ini novel as a research topic. This study aims to reveal the types of social issues that occur in Kita Pergi Hari Ini novel by Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie and to explain the author's worldview towards social issues in  Kita Pergi Hari Ini novel. This study uses Genetic structuralism theory with the concept of the author’s worldview by Lucien Goldmann. The writer uses qualitative research method and uses Phenomenological approach. The data source of this study is from dialogues and monologues in the novel, data is collected using a reading and note-taking technique. After doing this research, the writer found the results of this research are: 1) There are 3 social issues contained in this novel, poverty, crime, and population problems, 2) the author uses children’s point of view, dark words, her experiences, word games in the story to express her views on social issues that occur in society, then reflected in fantasy stories.

Abstract

Language sound errors at the phonological level. Phonemes or language sounds in Indonesian consist of vowels, consonants, diphthongs 'double vowels', and clusters 'consonant groups'. Differences in phonemes will change standard language varieties into non-standard ones. Phonological problems occur because vowel, consonant or diphthong phonemes change into other phonemes, thereby changing standard language into non-standard ones. This research aims to analyze language sound errors, namely deletions, additions and changes in vowel phonemes, consonant phonemes, combined vowel phonemes and combined consonant phonemes. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique for this research is by listening and using the language watched in Indonesian television advertisements. This data analysis technique consists of (1) data collection (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation (4) interesting conclusions. The results of data analysis of Indonesian language sound errors in Television Advertisements are language sound errors in Indonesian consisting of vowels, consonants, diphthongs 'double vowels', and 'consonant clusters' clusters due to errors in language use that do not match Indonesian Spelling (EBI) . Errors in Indonesian sounds or pronunciation that occur in television advertisements like this occur due to ignorance or on purpose so that the advertisement displayed will attract the attention of consumers or people who see, watch and listen to it.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the human values ​​contained in Damien Chazelle's La La Land movie. This movie not only shows a love story, but also depicts the struggle of life, sacrifice, dreams, and internal conflicts that are full of human values. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a content analysis method to identify and understand the human messages presented in the narrative, characters, dialogues, and visualization of the movie. The results of the study show that La La Land presents various human values, such as the struggle to achieve dreams (human aspiration), sacrifice for love and career, courage to face failure, and appreciation for the process and effort. These values ​​are conveyed through the journey of the main characters, Mia and Sebastian, which depicts the dynamics between pursuing personal ambition and maintaining emotional relationships. This study concludes that La La Land is not only a musical movie, but also a medium that is full of human messages that are relevant to real life. These values ​​can provide inspiration and reflection for the audience to understand the importance of balance between dreams and social life.
