Abstract

Background: Hospitals are health service providers providing emergency care, outpatient and inpatient. Hypertension occurs when blood pressure is above normal. Clinical conditions that require dialysis treatment have a tendency to kidney failure. This effort is related to the field of clinical pharmacokinetics. Objective: The study was conducted to analyze the dose of drug administration in conditions complicated by kidney failure in hypertensive patients. Methods: The study went through a sampling stage of data from hypertensive patients complicated by kidney failure, data according to inclusion criteria, calculation of creatinine clearance, analysis of dose adjustments and creatinine clearance. Results: The study obtained 170 data, which met the inclusion criteria of 30 data. Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index and worsening kidney function that patients received included: digoxin, captopril, ranitidine, furosemide, ciprofloxacin, and cefriaxone in 2, 13, 9, 12, 3, and 8 cases respectively. Conclusion: According to dose adjustment calculations for patient creatinine clearance, it was found that the drug exceeded the individual dose in 6 out of 9; 8 of 13; and 2 cases each using ranitidine, captopril, digoxin

Abstract

Background: Acne is strongly linked to the overgrowth of Propionibacterium acnes. Because long-term use of conventional antibacterials may contribute to resistance and irritation, plant-derived extracts are being explored as alternative or complementary options. Kumis Kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) and Mangga Madu (Mangifera indica L.) leaves are known to contain secondary metabolites that may help suppress bacterial growth. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial effect of combined ethanol extracts of O. aristatus and M. indica leaves against C. acnes and to determine which formulation ratio produced the best inhibition. Method: Each plant material was extracted separately using ethanol, then blended into five different combination formulas (F1–F5). Antibacterial activity was assessed in vitro using the disc diffusion technique with a standardized inoculum (0.5 McFarland). The diameter of the clear zone around each disc was measured and used to categorize antibacterial strength. Results: Qualitative phytochemical screening confirmed that both extracts contained key metabolite groups, including alkaloids, tannins/phenolics, flavonoids, and saponins. The negative control showed no clear zone, while clindamycin (positive control) produced a strong inhibition zone of 19.2 mm. All combined formulas inhibited C. acnes, with inhibition zones between 8.6 mm and 11.5 mm. Formula 3 generated the widest zone (11.5 mm; strong category), whereas Formula 2 showed the smallest inhibition (8.6 mm; weak category). Conclusion: The ethanol extracts of O. aristatus and M. indica leaves, when combined, were able to inhibit C. acnes. The level of inhibition varied with the mixing ratio, and Formula 3 demonstrated the most promising antibacterial activity among the tested formulations

Abstract

Background: Elementary school students' knowledge regarding the selection of healthy and safe food remains low, posing a risk to their nutritional status and health. Schools serve as effective settings for enhancing knowledge through nutrition and food safety education. Therefore, this community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of students at SDN 104242 Lubuk Pakam regarding the importance of consuming healthy and safe food. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of students at SDN 104242 Lubuk Pakam concerning the importance of consuming healthy and safe food. Methods: The program was implemented through a preliminary survey, educational sessions involving interactive lectures, discussions, meaning-making activities, and educational games, followed by an evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests administered to 55 students. Results: The community service activity, attended by 55 students from SDN 104242 Lubuk Pakam, demonstrated an increase in knowledge regarding healthy and safe food following the educational intervention. Pre-test results indicated that the majority of students fell into the "poor" knowledge category (45.45%), followed by the "fair" (36.36%) and "good" (18.18%) categories. Post-test results showed an improvement, with the "good" knowledge category rising to 63.64%, while the "fair" category decreased to 27.27% and the "poor" category dropped to 9.09%. These results indicate that the education provided was effective in enhancing students' knowledge regarding the selection of food that is healthy, nutritious, hygienic, and safe for consumption. Conclusion: The educational program proved effective in increasing students' knowledge and awareness regarding healthy and safe food. This activity is expected to support the development of healthy eating habits from an early age and contribute to improving the health of school-aged children.awareness regarding healthy and safe food. This activity is expected to support the development of healthy eating habits from an early age and contribute to improving the health of school-aged children.

Abstract

Traditional herbal medicine remains widely consumed by Indonesian communities to maintain health and alleviate various health complaints, including musculoskeletal pain. However, the high demand for herbal remedies for aches and pains is often accompanied by the circulation of products adulterated with medicinal chemical substances, such as paracetamol and mefenamic acid, which are prohibited in traditional herbal medicines. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and awareness regarding the presence of medicinal chemical substances in herbal remedies for musculoskeletal pain circulating within the community. The program was implemented using an educative-participatory approach through interactive lectures, group discussions, simple case studies, and question-and-answer sessions. A total of 40 participants were selected through purposive sampling and attended all stages of the program. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, participation observation sheets, and participant satisfaction surveys. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants’ knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 57.63 in the pre-test to 86.25 in the post-test, representing an increase of 28.62 points. The proportion of participants categorized as having good knowledge increased from 15.0% to 85.0%, while those in the poor knowledge category decreased from 45.0% to 2.5%. Participant engagement was also high, with 82.5% categorized as active or highly active throughout the program. Satisfaction assessment revealed that more than 95% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the overall implementation of the activity. These findings indicate that the educational intervention was effective in enhancing public understanding of the risks associated with medicinal chemical substances in traditional herbal products and encouraging the selection of safe herbal medicines for consumption.
