Abstract

Abstract The rampant abuse of illegal medicinal chemicals (BKOs) in Indonesian traditional herbal medicine has raised serious concerns, with a recent study using HPLC/HPLC analysis on ten studies revealing the content of hazardous substances such as diclofenac sodium (reaching 297,123 mg/L), dexamethasone (exceeding the safe limit), as well as antalgin and sibutramin HCl in several products in circulation. These findings emphasize the need for strict measures, ranging from strict supervision, public education, to legal action, to protect consumers while ensuring herbal medicine remains a safe and sustainable traditional medicine option for future generations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the levels of tannin compounds in fresh and dried turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) rhizomes using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Tannins are phenolic compounds that have important biological activities, such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. Turmeric rhizome samples were extracted using 96% ethanol solvent by maceration method for three days. Analysis was performed using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and saturated sodium carbonate solution to form colored complexes measured at a maximum wavelength (λ max) of 706 nm. Quantification was performed by comparing the absorbance results against the gallic acid standard calibration curve, which showed a linear relationship with a coefficient of determination (r²) value of 0.9955. The results showed that fresh turmeric rhizomes had higher tannin levels (57,046 mg GAE/g) than dried turmeric (29,005 mg GAE/g). Qualitative and quantitative analysis showed that the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method was effective for detecting and measuring tannin content accurately and sensitively. In addition, the measurement principle based on the Lambert-Beer law, as well as the use of a spectrophotometer with accurate specifications supports the validity of the results. Literature review from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect of ten supporting journals corroborated that this method has been widely applied for the analysis of phenolic compounds in various natural materials. Thus, This study concluded that turmeric rhizome is a potential source of tannins and the UV-Vis method can be used as a reliable phenolic analysis tool in the pharmaceutical and food fields.

Abstract

The quality of air is very important for the environment and human life, however, along with developments in today's increasingly developed and modern era, the quality of the air itself is getting worse and the substances that become air pollutants, one of which is carbon monoxide. Exposure to high amounts of carbon monoxide gas over a continuous exposure period can of course increase carboxyhemoglobin levels in the blood, which will cause health problems. To determine the relationship between carboxyhemoglobin levels in the blood of motor vehicle mechanic workers in the Samarinda city area based on factors such as age, length of work, length of service, and smoking habits. This research used a cross sectional analytical survey design, and sample measurements used the Hindsberg-Lang method which was carried out in May 2023 with a sample size of 17 people and a Spearman rank statistical test was carried out to see whether there was a relationship between variables. 17 motor vehicle mechanics had COHb concentrations that exceeded the normal limit of <3.5%, where the lowest carboxyhemoglobin level was 6.10% and the highest was 9.64%. Correlation data obtained from the p value of age (p=0.000), length of service (p=0.000), time worked (p=0.000), and smoking habits (p=0.004) on COHb levels in the blood of motor vehicle mechanics. The Conclusion: COHb levels in motor vehicle mechanics are above 3.5% and there is a significant relationship between age, length of service, working time and smoking habits on COHb levels in the blood of motor vehicle mechanics.

Abstract

Fiels Study and Community Service Program is the realization of community service by Unimar students and lecturers in rural community development. Unimar's 2025 Fiels Study and Community Service Program was conducted in four villages in Cisoka District, namely Jeungjing, Cisoka, Caringin, and Bojong Loa. The scope of activities carried out included education, health, social, and religious fields. The objective of Unimar's Fiels Study and Community Service Program activities is to train students' soft skills so they can have a positive impact on the community. The activity was opened by the Regent of Tangerang and the release was carried out by the Cisoka Subdistrict Head. The method used was participatory, involving the community. The programs carried out included education, social, health, MSME empowerment, and simple technological innovations. The output of Fiels Study and Community Service Program was to show an increase in community participation in maintaining environmental health, awareness of stunting prevention, and strengthening collaboration between students and villagers. The Fiels Study and Community Service Program program is a tangible manifestation of campus-community synergy in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). The outcomes of the service program include the availability of supporting facilities for waste management and sanitation.
