Abstract

The damage rate of mangrove forests in Indonesia is considered as the fastest and largest in the world. The reduced density of mangroves can be influenced by the water quality and the organic matter content around the mangrove ecosystem, causing changes in the mangrove leaves both in the shape of the length and width. This study was conducted in the mangrove ecosystem in the western part of Dumai City, with the aim of determining the morphometric size of the leaves of Rhizophora apiculata and its relationship with the content of organic matter in the sediment. The method used in this study was survey method, where observations and sampling were performed directly in the field and some of samples were analyzed in the laboratory. Mangrove density obtained from the research results ranges from 1966.66 - 4700 ind/ha, organic matter content 10.88 -17.21%. The morphometric size of the leaf length varies from 13.03 - 15.05 cm, the leaf width varies from 4.65 - 5.42 cm, and the length of the petiole varies from 1.59 - 1.91 cm. There is no significant relationship between the mangrove leaf morphometric with sediment organic matter in the studied area.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2020 at BPBALP Teluk Buo, West Sumatera. This research aimed to determine the best dose for urea usage on S. costatum cell growth. The method used in this research was an experimental method using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor, which was the various doses of urea fertilizer consisting of five treatments with three replications. Urea various doses used were 0 ppm (control treatment), 40 ppm (treatment A), 60 ppm (treatment B), 80 ppm (treatment C), and 100 ppm (treatment D) totaling 15 treatment units. The tested organism in this research was S. costatum. The container used was a plastic jar with 2 liters capacity. The parameters tested in this research were the maximum cell population density achieved by seven days of maintenance, absolute growth rate, relative growth rate, and specific growth rate. The results showed that the best cell density was found at the treatment D (100 ppm), which was 1,228 x 104 cells / mL and the lowest cell density was in the control treatment (without urea) which was 533 x 104 cells / ml. The results of water quality measurements during the study were still in an adequate range and met the maintenance requirements of S. costatum. The range of water quality parameters were salinity 26-28 ppt, temperature of 25-27oC, and pH of 8

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one of the factors that affect the abundance of fhytoplankton, especially the diatom. The waters of Lalang Strait, Mengkapan Village, are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. This study aims to analyze the total oil content, calculate the abundance of planktonic diatoms, and explain the relationship between the total oil content and the abundance of planktonic diatoms carried out in the Lalang Strait waters, Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. This research uses survey method. Station 1 is near Tanjung Buton Port, station 2 is in the mangrove ecotourism area, and station 3 is in the fishing port and near the settlement. The result of oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0,00016 ppm. The highest oil content at station 3 is 0,00035 ppm and the lowest at station 2 is 0,00011 ppm. The results of the calculation of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 5.014 to 22.062 cells/L. The highest abundance at station 1 was 17.716 cells/L. The lowest abundance was at station 2 which was 9.694 cells/L. Simple linear regression test result, obtained equation Y= 14,2644+(-3802,27x). The coefficient of determination (R2)= 0,002 states 0,2 % of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content and the rest is influenced by other environmental factors. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0,053, so the relationship of total oil content with the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak.

Abstract

Anadara granosa is one of the bivalves that are often found in public markets. This study aimed to study the relationship between length-weight and sex ratio of blood clams (A. granosa) in the coastal waters of West Rangsang. Sampling was carried out every month at three stations. Shells were collected from a 1 x 1 m2 plot on a quadratic transect. The relationship between length and weight was analyzed by regression analysis. The sex ratio between the number of female and male blood clams in each month of sampling was calculated and followed by the Chi square test to test the similarity. The results showed that the relationship between length and weight of A. granosa was positive allometric. The sex ratio of female and male blood clams in the waters of West Rangsang is not balanced. The number of male blood clams is more than the female

Sampling was accompanied by water quality pH, temperature, salinity, brightness, current velocity and DO measurements. Four zooplankton species were found in the Kambang River Estuary: Aetideus armatus, Macrosetella sp., Oithona sp., and Cyclops sp. The average value of zooplankton abundance during the day ranged from 1,938.61 - 2,492.50 ind/L, and in the afternoon 1,938.61 - 2,769.45 ind/L, the diversity index during the day was 1.28 - 1.55 and in the afternoon 1.28 - 1.36, the index of uniformity during the day was 0.72 - 0.98 and in the afternoon 0.86 - 0.98, while the index of dominance during the day was 0.40 - 0.53 and in the afternoon 0.40 - 0.52. The one-way ANOVA test results obtained an average value of 0.010 during the day and 0.029 in the afternoon, meaning there was a significant difference in zooplankton abundance between research depths
