Abstract

Mangroves are important ecosystems that provide a range of ecosystem functions and services that support livelihoods and the environment. Mangrove forests in Timor-Leste have been exploited since at least the 1940s for agriculture, timber, and clearing for settlements. Measurement of the distribution of mangrove vegetation was carried out at two observation stations, namely: Station I, located in Tibar Village; Station II and located in Ulmera Village. The determination of the research location was determined by purposive sampling after a survey was conducted. The results of vegetation analysis that has been done there are 4 types of mangroves found such as; Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata and Brugueira cylindrica. Stand density at Tibar station is dominated by the type of Sonneratia alba having a density of 366.67 trees / ha with a species mastery level of 91.23 m2 / ha and has an INP value of 219.98%. In contrast to the results of observations in Tibar village, the density of stands at the Ulmera observation station, the Rhizophora apiculata species has a higher density of 511 trees/ha but the level of species mastery is dominated by the Sonneratia alba species of 53 m2/ha with INP = 116%. The density level is dominated by the Rhizophora apiculata species because in the middle zone the substrate is muddy, while in the outer zone directly facing the sea and always inundated with sea water, more Sonneratia alba species are found. Abstract

Managing protected area in the proper way is one of the most effective effort to conserve the last tropical biodiversity and ecosystems. Nowaday management of protected area faces to many "threats" from others. With regards to global situation, the way of protected area management has to be adjusted and shifted in line with new paradigm that develop based on lesson learn from best practices in many countries over the world. According to global history, current management of protected area should recognize local needs and must be recognized by local. The existence of protected area must bring significant benefits to multi-stakeholders. We have to broaden mind that protected area is not just the needs of central goverment or conservationists to save our earth, but there should also be an access for others to take real benefits. If it is consistently adopted, however, protected area authority is not the only responsible institution towards conservation of biodiversity within the area.

Abstract

The global focus on endangered mammals highlights urgent, effective conservation strategies addressing habitat destruction, land-use changes, poaching, agricultural expansion, and encroachment. This study aims to identify research gaps in stakeholder engagement, map research trends and assess leading contributors of endangered mammal conservation, and explore opportunities for international collaboration for biodiversity conservation. This study was done using bibliometric analysis of 716 initial documents that were further selected to 85 publications based on PRISMA guidelines in R-Studio tools. This review highlights the fact that there is a limited focus on stakeholder engagement within mammal conservation research. Countries with high biodiversity, such as Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil, contribute less to the scientific literature than high-income countries. This imbalance suggests the need for equitable research funding and expanded collaboration. Strengthening partnerships with research-intensive countries could increase publication output and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, regional cooperation with other original countries with similarly endangered species, like Malaysia and Thailand, is essential for improving research quality and optimizing resource exchange. The findings further highlight the importance of sustainable conservation practices and stakeholder engagement in effectively fostering the protection of endangered mammal species. Abstract

Tourist villages have increasingly become a focus of academic and practical interest. Despite numerous studies, comprehensive analyses to uncover key contexts and topics remain limited. Indonesia, which leads in publications on tourist villages, offers a unique opportunity to explore strategies for enhancing its competitiveness. This study aims to review, synthesize, and advance the competitiveness of Indonesian tourist villages by examining theoretical frameworks, sustainability challenges, and strategic approaches. The combination of the approaches describes the novelty of this study. A systematic literature review analyzed 21 Scopus-indexed articles from 2023–2024, selected based on open access and journal publication criteria. The review highlights that most research focuses on Java-based villages, utilizing theories like social capital, sustainable tourism, and community-based tourism. Results show that the key success factors for tourist villages include collaboration and cultural preservation, while challenges span economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions. The study emphasizes the potential of analytical tools like VRIO and PESTLE to help identify competitive advantages and address vulnerabilities. These frameworks provide actionable insights for improving resilience and ensuring the sustainable appeal of tourist villages in Indonesia. By addressing these critical aspects, the study offers valuable guidance for enhancing the long-term viability and success of tourist villages as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s tourism industry.

Abstract

Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI), an ex-situ conservation institution in Puncak, Bogor, has developed the 4A framework to attract more tourists and enhance visitor satisfaction and loyalty, while increasing visits revenue. It has also raised the carbon footprint of tourist transportation. This study aims to analyze the vehicle emissions of tourists and their satisfaction with 4A components to predict the likelihood of repeat visits and the subsequent rise in carbon emissions. Emissions were calculated using the IPCC 2006 Guidelines (Tier 2), and the relationship between tourist satisfaction and loyalty was assessed using the structural equation model partial least squares (SEM-PLS) method. The results indicated that CO2 emissions from tourist vehicles during holidays reached 1,482,261.96 g.CO2/h, significantly higher than the 552,732.81 g.CO2/h recorded on weekdays. The analysis also revealed that tourist satisfaction and loyalty towards the 4A components significantly positively impacted the intention to revisit, as demonstrated by the T-statistics of 5.437 and P-values of 0.000, where the more satisfied the tourists are, the more loyal they are to return to TSI. Keywords: carbon footprint, IPCC, loyalty, satisfaction, SEM-PLS

Abstract

Social media has become a crucial platform for disseminating tourism-related information, including climbing tourism within conservation areas. Mount Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) utilizes the Instagram account @bbtn_gn_gedepangrango to share information about hiking activities, promote nature-based tourism, and provide education on conservation ethics through the #PendakiCerdas campaign. This study aims to evaluate the management of the @bbtn_gn_gedepangrango account based on the socio-demographic characteristics of its followers. Data were collected from 482 active followers using a quantitative approach through an online questionnaire. The findings indicate that the majority of followers belong to Generation Z, are male, have a high school level of education, and reside in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). However, the level of concern regarding waste management remains low, as only 19% of respondents demonstrated awareness of waste issues within TNGGP. These results highlight the need for more targeted and audience-specific conservation communication strategies to enhance public awareness and participation in environmental preservation efforts.
