Abstract

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to analyze the factors that influence online shopping. Data are aggregated at the national, island, and regional levels. The regions are categorized based on their level of demand for online shopping. Background Problems: The rapid development of information and communications technology contributes to the transformation of the digital economy. By using 281,185 internet users from the National Households Survey (Survei Sosial Ekonomi-Susenas) 2017 data, we found that the percentage of online shopping in Indonesia is 7.59%. Online shopping is concentrated on the island of Java, especially in the Greater Jakarta area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi). Novelty: This study analyzes online shopping from the point of view of economic development studies, especially related to the development of information technology and the digital economy. Research Methods: We used a binary logistic regression analysis to assess the effect of demographic, socio-economic, and spatial factors on an individual’s decision to shop online. Finding/Results: The results indicate that individuals who have a greater tendency to shop online are those who have a high income, are women, can access the internet using mobile phones, they are the spouses of the heads of households, are 25 to30 years old, live in urban areas, have graduated from college (especially with a diploma), and work in the tertiary sector. The higher that the share of online shopping is in an area, the more intense the influence of individual characteristics will be on the tendency to shop online, according to the demographic and socio-economic factors, while the spatial factors will fade away. Conclusion: Income, gender, internet access, and the shopper’s position in the household are factors that significantly influence individuals to shop online.

Abstract

The data analysis used probit regression analysis with a sample of 66,468 respondents. The research results show that the higher the education is, the greater possibility of individual to agree with inequality income will be. Individuals who graduated from elementary and junior high schools tend to agree with equal income, while individuals who graduated from high school and college tend to agree with unequal income. The higher the mother's education is, the greater possibility of individuals to agree with equal income will be. The higher the father's education is, the greater possibility of individuals to agree with unequal income will be. Religiosity has a different influence on redistribution preferences. Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of implementing on special autonomy in Papua on education and health outcomes. The main data are sourced from the 2015 Intercensus Population Survey. Educational outcomes are measured by the highest primary education completed, while the health outcome measure is the level of complaints of sickness. The impact of special autonomy on educational outcomes is analyzed using ordered logistic regression, while the impact of special autonomy on health outcomes is analyzed using ordered logistic regression and instrumental variables. The results of this studycomprise two findings. First, the implementation of special autonomy in Papua has not had an impact on basic education in the province, because education spending made by the regional government in implementing special autonomy in Papua has not been able to compensate for the needs of school -age children in households. Second, the implementation of special autonomy in Papua has a direct and indirect impact on household health outcomes. This shows that the health expendi tures made by the Regional Government in implementing Special Autonomy, through increasing the coverage of communit y health centers throughout Papua, bring benefits that are felt by households in the province.

Abstract

In the Indonesia democracy, the multiparty system is used as one of the canal to aggregate the public aspirations. This mechanism is supported by Law No. 25/1999 about fiscal decentralization and a series of related regulations. It is also supported by direct election for regional head (Pilkada). As such, the winning political parties may influence the local government budget allocation which finally transform into the economic growth. This study estimates the influence of party politic concentration on the local economic growth. The data used is the local government election of 2004 and 2009 from 55 regions (cities). The concentration of political power in regional legislatives is measured by using Herfindahl Hirschman Index (HHI). The results of analysis confirm that the more concentrated political power in the regional legislative results lower economic growth.
