Abstract

During pandemic COVID-19, higher education has made a large shift in turning synchronous learning into asynchronous learning through online learning platforms. It encourages every institution, likewise Universitas Negeri Jakarta, to provide an all-in-one technology-supported learning environment due to face this dynamic change. Therefore, UNJ has finally developed its own Learning Management System (LMS). However, since it is a new brand tool of learning and innovation, it needs to be quickly evaluated for satisfaction and optimization so that there can be proposed for improvements in the future. This research uses System Usability Scale (SUS) as the Usability evaluation methods which is distributed through Google Forms and measured the validity by SPSS software. This evaluation method has been done to 50 participants from undergraduate and graduate students of English Language Education Study Program at UNJ. It was found that the result was valid with 0,702 reliability rate. The evaluation result of LMS owned by UNJ has 83,25 SUS score which can be regarded as "Excellent" rating as well as grade “A” according to Curved Grade Scale (CGS). Despite the score of Net Promoter Scale categorized as “Promoter”, it suggests further research investigated in other departments of UNJ to meet different expectations. Abstract

Teachers in the 21st century must be capable of new literacy, such as digital literacy, technology literacy, and human literacy. There has been a lot of research done in this area, but this is one of the more recent studies that relates to technological literacy. This research will focus on the program evaluation of the use of technology literacy in English classrooms. The study aimed to determine whether technology literacy was used in the classrooms, to evaluate teachers’ competence in the use of technology literacy, and to determine the students’ needs in the use of computing applications in the English classroom. A needs analysis was used as the research methodology. To get the data, an observation sheet was obtained as the instrument. The questionnaires were adapted from Blended Learning Innovation for IRCC Settlement Language Training by Fahy et. al. (2016). The findings confirmed some facts. First, despite the challenges of technology literacy applied in the classroom, teachers felt the positive impacts on teaching and learning in the classroom. Second, in the use of technology applications, it has met some of the students' needs in learning English. Third, in terms of evaluation, the teacher did not meet enough qualifications as a qualified teacher to use technology in the classroom. As a result, it influenced the teaching-learning process, and they were unable to instruct successfully. The researcher proposed that the school hold a workshop or training for the teachers to improve their teaching skills using technology literacy. The researcher recommended further study on the integration of the technology literacy used in the English syllabus and the teaching materials. Keynotes: technology literacy, program evaluation, needs analysis

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology in the twenty-first century encouraged students to use communication tools and digital resources in their classroom learning activities. Some students must complete sophisticated tasks, so they must be able to manage files, including creating, editing, uploading videos, and using web-based tools. In order to complete those tasks in a satisfactory way, students must have good digital literacy. This study investigates postgraduate students’ digital literacy. The aim of this study is to explore postgraduate students’ digital literacy. The instruments used to gather data were a questionnaire and an interview. A total of 30 postgraduate students participated in this research. The finding was highlighted in terms of students’ ability to use computers, students’ internet skills, and students’ ability to seek and retrieve information and information resources. Abstract

With the tremendous technological developments of this century blurring the line between online and offline activities, the emergence of the digital world is inevitable. By the proliferation of new technologies, digital awareness for the safe, appropriate and efficient selection and management of digital resources for digital learning education is becoming important. In the context of English Language Teaching, the proportion of ICT in the learning process is increasingly high. However, there may be some barriers that affect the familiarity and motivation of the relevant learning components. To answer the research question on challenging aspect of the integration of digital literacy in ELT, a systematic review of 20 articles sourced from Google scholar is executed. It reveals that the challenges are generally resulted from students, teachers, and schools’ preparedness; which involves low operational skill; limited access to computer and internet; and the lack of proper learning materials that covers media literacy.
