Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research was carried out for the students’ low activities and ability in mathematics concept. The aim of the research was to reveal the students’ activities by using The Learning Cell active learning strategy and to see whether the mathematics conceptual understanding of the students taught by using The Learning Cell active learning strategy was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning in class VII I of SMPN 17 Padang. This was an experimental research. Based on the result data analysis it was found that, in general, the students’ activity improved in each meeting. The result of hypothesis test showed that the value of tcalculated (2,01) was higher than ttable (1,645) indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. This result signified that the mathematics conceptual understanding of the students taught by using The Learning Cell active learning strategy was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning in class VII I of SMPN 17 Padang registered in academic year 2013/2014.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research was conducted based on the phenomena showing that the students were not accustomed to discuss in pairs. This research was aimed at revealing whether the mathematics conceptual understanding of the students taught by using The Learning Cell active learning strategy was better than that of students taught by using the conventional one in class VIII of SMPN 4 Lembah Gumanti. This was an experimental research which used random toward the subject design. Populasion were students of SMPN 4 Lembah Gumanti which consists of three classes. Samples were taken at random that was selected as the experimental class VIIIB and as control class VIIIA. The instrument of the research was an essay post-test whose reliability was 0.65. Based on the result of data analysis by using t-test assisted with software MINITAB, it was found that P-value was 0.022 which was smaller than α value. This result signified that H0 was rejected. Thus, it was concluded that the mathematics conceptual understanding of the students taught by using The Learning Cell active learning strategy was better than that of students taught by using conventional learning on 95% of reliability level.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aimed to know the understanding of mathematic concept at eight grade junior high school students number 1 (one) in Pasaman Kabupaten Pasaman Barat by using active learning strategy with Learning type Starts With A Question is more better than conventional learning. Kind of this research is experiment research by design random of the subject. The population of this research is the students of eight grade junior high school number 1 (one) in Pasaman. The technique taked of the sample is random; the elected sample classes are VIII5 as experiment class and VIII6 as control class. Instruments that used in this research is final test in the form of an essay. Data that obtained in analysis by using normality test, homogenity test and t-test. Based on the result of hypothesis test by software MINITAB  to obtained P-value = 0,006 smaller from α = 0,05, so the hypothesis of this research is accepted. So we can conclude that the student’s understanding of mathematic concept by using active learning strategy with Learning Type Starts With A Question is more better than the student’s understanding concept by conventional leaning at eight grade junior high school students number 1 (one) in Pasaman Kabupaten Pasaman Barat in academic year 2013/2014 with confidence level is 95%.
