Abstract

This community service activity aims to develop and improve library management using the 5S method and computerised system of books inventory to increase community literacy in Buluh Cina Village, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The optimal and efficient library, such as book collections, library users, facilities, infrastructure, and library management, can be appropriately managed based on the 5S method and book inventory-based computerisation. The 5S method (Seiri, Seiton, Seito, Seiketsu and Shitsuke) was adopted to organise library rooms by arranging bookshelves, catalogue cabinets, reading tables, and other equipment. By applying the 5S method, a more optimal inventory management system and book borrowing were obtained easily. The existence of this system makes it easier for officers to put back the books that have been read in their original place. Replacing books can be done quickly; the librarian only needs to input the book code, book data and shelf locations for storage displayed. The book was inventory-based computerised, which made it more accessible to detect the number of collections, the presence of books on storage shelves, a monitoring system for book borrowers, and additional collections. Therefore, the management and services of the library are optimal and lead to the visitors' satisfaction.

Abstract

The tool path optimization is an important issue to get a low cost of manufacture parts using the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. Programming to produce an optimum tool path for CNC machines is a key performance indicator for obtaining minimized machining time and good surface quality of parts. This paper purposes to optimized the CNC tool path generation programming and analyze the cost of manufacturing process of master cylinder piston of motorcycle brake. A Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software was used to simulate an optimal tool path, which finding an efficient solution to shorten the cutting tool path generation. The simulation was performed on a roughing surface process of the work piece using 3 tool path schemes: longitudinal, diametrical and surface to parallel. The each scheme employed tool-path generation based on absolute and incremental reference methods of a CNC lathe machine. An analysis of simulation tool path time for each scheme and machining cost was investigated to get optimum and economies machining process. Hence, it was compared to actual time of machining process on CNC lathe in term of the manufacturing cost machining. The optimal processing time and the most economical cost for making a master cylinder piston of motorcycle brake was a parallel to surface scheme. Therefore, an optimization of tool path generation can minimize machining lead time, which lead to lowest cost of manufacturing parts, with keep maintain product quality.

Abstract

Friction welding is a solid-state welding without the use of filler metal by using pressure method where by two workpieces to be connected. It is placed in contact and regulated relative motion in pressure, so that on the contact surface being heat (close to the metal liquid point), which form the metal connection. A friction welding machine in the laboratory of technology production of the University of Riau has some disadvantages, namely the electric motor as a driver head stock stems that are often damaged due to overheating such as excessive during welding. Thus was interfering with the welding process due to damage to the electric motor. Therefore, this paper purpose is carried out the development of friction welding tool by using flywheel. The Flywheel stores energy during high engine speed, and passes it during low engine speeds to produce a steady turn. In this study used three flywheels with a diameter of 250 mm, which each thick of 10 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm. From the test is obtained the value of the average tensile strength on each flywheel that is 522.736 MPa, 510.648 MPa and 531.79 Mpa.
