Abstract

The skin can be cleansed and treated using soap. The most common bacteria found on the skin is Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause various skin problems. A natural ingredient known for its antibacterial properties is green Phyllanthus niruri leaves. To facilitate its application, it is necessary to develop it into a stable liquid soap formulation in terms of physical quality. The aim of this study was to determine the physical stability of a liquid soap formulation containing ethanol extract of green Phyllanthus niruri leaves, both before and after undergoing a cycling test on the best formulation.This research began with the processing of simplicia and extraction, followed by the formulation of liquid soap using green Phyllanthus niruri leaf extract with variations in KOH concentrations (14%, 16%, and 18%). The liquid soap formulations were then evaluated until the best formula was selected and subjected to a cycling test. Among the three formulas tested, the best formulation based on physical characteristics was F2, which used 16% KOH concentration. This formula was subsequently subjected to a cycling test for six cycles. The cycling test included organoleptic examination, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, foam height, and foam stability. The conclusion of this research on cycling tests shows that the physical quality of the preparation in the best formula, namely F2 (16%), showed significant changes in physical quality which was stable for 6 cycles.

Abstract

Paracetamol is one of the most widely used analgesic-antipyretic drugs and is available in various formulations, including solid tablets and liquid syrups, which differ significantly in long-term stability. This review analyzes data from ten journal studies (2013–2024) comparing the stability of paracetamol in different dosage forms. A literature review method was employed to assess physical and chemical stability under various storage conditions. Solid dosage forms, such as tablets, generally exhibit excellent long-term stability. When stored in sealed packaging at 30 °C/75% RH, tablets maintained potency and low impurity levels for up to five years. In contrast, liquid formulations, especially oral suspensions, degrade more rapidly once opened. For example, an opened Panadol® suspension retained acceptable quality for about five months under optimal conditions (refrigerated, protected from light) and degraded faster (around 3.5 months) under high temperatures. The main degradation product, p-aminophenol (PAP), remained below 0.005% in tablets but exceeded the 0.1% limit in most opened suspensions.Formulation factors, including pH and cosolvent use (e.g., glycerin, PEG 400), significantly affected liquid stability. Syrups with PEG 400 + glycerin maintained stable pH levels (5.6–6.8). In conclusion, solid forms are more stable than liquids, and careful formulation and adherence to storage guidelines are essential to ensure product quality.

Abstract

Sediaan farmasi adalah obat, obat tradisional dan kosmetika. Obat dalam bentuk tertentu sesuai dengan persyaratan untuk menghasilkan obat yang aman, stabil, dan efektif. Ada beberapa bentuk sediaan farmasi, salah satunya bentuk sediaan topikal. Sediaan topikal merupakan sediaan yang penggunaannya pada kulit untuk memberikan efek lokal, salah satunya yaitu gel. Berdasarkan sifat pelarut, gel terdiri dari hidrogel, organogel, dan xerogel. Untuk menghasilkan sediaan yang memiliki stabilitas, kompatibilitas, dan toksisitas yang rendah serta mampu meningkatkan waktu kontak dengan kulit, hydrogel membutuhkan basis. Karbopol dan HPMC merupakan basis dari hydrogel. Kombinasi karbopol dan HPMC untuk menutupi kekurangan karbopol saat digunakan pada konsentrasi tinggi dan memberikan pH asam. Tujuan penelitian ini menemukan basis terbaik dari variasi konsentrasi bahan gelling agent yaitu karbopol dan Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC). Metode penelitian true-eksperimental design dengan variasi konsentrasi gelling agent (carbopol dan HPMC) pada sediaan hydrogel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari 6 uji sifat fisik sediaan hydrogel, 3 formula (formula 1, 2 dan 4) memenuhi semua uji, namun ada 1 uji yang tidak memenuhi syarat pada formula 3 dan 5 pada uji daya sebar.

Abstract

Eco-enzyme merupakan cairan hasil fermentasi limbah organik, terutama kulit jeruk, gula, dan air, yang diproses selama kurang lebih tiga bulan. Fermentasi ini menghasilkan cairan berwarna cokelat dengan aroma khas yang mengandung enzim serta senyawa bioaktif bermanfaat. Produk eco-enzyme memiliki beragam fungsi, antara lain sebagai pembersih alami, pupuk organik cair, desinfektan, pengusir serangga, dan pengharum ruangan. Pemanfaatan limbah kulit jeruk menjadi eco-enzyme memiliki nilai strategis karena mampu mengurangi timbulan sampah organik rumah tangga, menekan pencemaran lingkungan, serta menghasilkan produk ramah lingkungan dengan nilai ekonomis. Melalui program pengabdian kepada masyarakat, pelatihan pembuatan eco-enzyme tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan warga, tetapi juga membuka peluang usaha kecil berbasis lingkungan. Dengan demikian, eco-enzyme berbasis kulit jeruk dapat menjadi solusi sederhana, murah, dan berkelanjutan dalam mendukung pengelolaan sampah organik di tingkat rumah tangga maupun komunitas.
