Abstract

Abstract. POLOBETE Fish Farm is a private hatchery that uses biofloc technology located in Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. It has 18 tilapia biofloc ponds and one nursery pond. The problem faced by POLOBETE Fish Farm is that it has not been able to meet market demand for seeds both in quality and quantity. Genetic improvement with selection methods for growth characteristics and fecundity is a solution to increase the quantity and quality of tilapia seed production at POLOBETE Fish Farm. The Fisheries Research Team from the Research and Development Centre for Biotechnology, Institute of Research and Community Service, Universitas Hasanuddin, assisted POLOBETE Fish Farm with truss morphometric methods to assess fish body shape and its association with growth traits and fecundity analysis methods to assess the number of eggs or the number of larvae produced by female tilapia broodstock. Data on the morphological and fecundity characters of selected fish can be used to assess the progress of selection. The result of the community service is that POLOBETE Fish Farm has applied both methods to assess generations/progeny resulting from crosses between Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus Kekar (♂) and O. niloticus Kekar (♀) and hybridization between O. niloticus Kekar (♂) and O. niloticus Sultana (♀). Furthermore, both truss morphometric and fecundity methods can be used by POLOBETE Fish Farm on production program of XY neofemale, YY supermale, and YY female. Abstrak. POLOBETE Fish Farm adalah usaha akuakultur yang menerapkan sistem bioflok yang berlokasi di Kabupaten Pinrang Sulawesi Selatan, memiliki 18 kolam terpal bioflok ikan nila dan satu buah kolam pendederan. Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh POLOBETE Fish Farm adalah belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan pasar akan benih baik secara kualitas maupun kuantitas. Genetic improvement dengan metode seleksi untuk karakter pertumbuhan dan fekunditas adalah solusi untuk meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas produksi benih. Tim Riset Perikanan dari Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengembangan Bioteknologi LPPM Universitas Hasanuddin, memberi pendampingan kepada POLOBETE Fish Farm tentang metode truss morfometrik untuk menilai morfologi ikan dan metode analisis fekunditas untuk menilai jumlah telur atau jumlah larva (fekunditas) yang diproduksi oleh induk ikan nila betina. Data karakter morfologi dan fekunditas ikan-ikan hasil seleksi tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai parameter untuk menilai kemajuan seleksi. Hasil dari pengabdian adalah POLOBETE Fish Farm telah mengaplikasikan kedua metode tersebut untuk menilai progeny hasil persilangan antara Oreochromis niloticus Kekar (♂) dan O. niloticus Kekar (♀) serta hibridisasi antara O. niloticus Kekar (♂) dan O. niloticus Sultana (♀). Metode truss morfometrik dan fekunditas selanjutnya dapat digunakan oleh POLOBETE Fish Farm pada program produksi XY neofemale, YY supermale, dan YY female.

Abstract

Lake Towuti, one of the ancient lakes in Indonesia, is the second largest freshwater lake after Lake Toba. One of the endemic fish that live in Lake Towuti is the Matano Medaka fish (Oryzias matanensis Aurich, 1935). Due to land change, Lake Towuti's indicate is in threat of declining, which potentially have an impact on the endemic fish's habitat. The aim of this study is to identify the habitat characteristics of Lake Towuti. The data collected in this study includes temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and aquatic plants. Sampling was carried out in the morning, starting at 8:00 WITA and ending at 11:00 WITA at two different stations. Station selection was carried out based on differences in habitat, the presence of aquatic plants, and the presence of fish samples. Habitat characteristics at station one are marked by the number of water plants with the basic substrate types of sand, mud, and stones. In contrast, at station two, it is characterized by the absence of water plants and the basic substrate types of sand, rock, and gravel. Ecological aspects, including water physics and chemistry parameters, did not experience large fluctuations during the study period. The water conditions at each research station were not significantly different, so the water conditions were still good and supported the fish life in Lake Towuti.

Abstract

Belum banyak penelitian terkait Plectorhinchus flavomaculatus famili Haemulidae di Indonesia, termasuk di Sulawesi Selatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan karakter morfometrik dan meristik antara ikan kaneke jantan dan betina yang didaratkan di TPI Poetere Makassar. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Oktober-Desember 2022. Sampel P. flavomaculatus yang dianalisis berjumlah 60 individu terdiri dari 30 jantan dan 30 betina. Sebanyak 16 karakter morfometrik dan sembilan karakter meristik dianalisis menggunakan analisis diskriminan metode stepwise dan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata panjang baku ikan jantan 265,03 ± 27,56 mm dengan satu individu outlier dan lebih bervariasi dibandingkan dengan panjang baku ikan betina (265,27 ± 19,71 mm). Tiga karakter dari 16 karakter morfometrik yang dianalisis signifikan mendiskriminasi ikan jantan dan ikan betina, yaitu panjang kepala, panjang jari-jari lemah ke-2 sirip anal dan tinggi pipi. Fungsi diskriminana yang terbentuk mendiskriminasi 30 individu yang diduga jantan menjadi 22 jantan dan 8 betina serta mendiskriminasi 30 individu yang diduga betina menjadi hanya 20 betina dan 10 jantan. Jumlah jari-jari keras sirip anal dan jumlah jari-jari sirip perut kiri P. flavomaculatus jantan lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan jumlah jari-jari keras sirip anal dan jumlah jari-jari sirip perut kiri ikan betina. Hasil penelitian ini bermanfaat bagi survey sumberdaya P. flavomaculatus dalam rangka pengelolaan perikanan P. flavomaculatus khususnya di Perairan Kepulauan Spermonde.

Abstract

Blue Spotted Ray (Dasyatis kuhlii) as the demersal organisms has a lot of accumulation of pollutants in the water that settles to the bottom. This study was conducted to look at the liver tissue alteration of Blue Spotted Ray caused by contamination of mercury (Hg). Performed on 5 tanks. Tank A as a control, tank B with concentration 0.025  ppm,  tank  C  with  concentration  of  0.05  ppm,  tank  D  with concentration  0.1  ppm  and  tanks  E  with concentration  0.2  ppm.  The  result  is  alteration  on  the  liver  tissue  in  the  form  of  atrophy,  cloudy  swelling, vacuolization degeneration and even necrosis or death of liver tissue already. The alteration can reduce and eveneliminate the function of the liver as a toxin absorbent and can lead to death.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the sex ratio and the first gonadal maturity size of mackerel fish(Decapterus macrosomas Bleeker 1841). Samples were taken from June to October 2013 in the sub-district ofPanyula, District of East Riattang, in Bone region. Sample analysis was conducted at the Fisheries biologylaboratory, Department of Fisheries, Hasanuddin University, Makassar. Sex ratio was analyzed by using chiquadrat-testwhereas the first gonadal maturity size was obtained from the first size of the third-gonadal-maturitystage. There were 782 fish collected with male to female ratio 1,02:1,00. Statistically, the sex ratio from Bone waterswas 1:1, in other words, it is still in a balance condition. The male fish reached gonadal maturity stage at the size of195 mm, whereas the female at 210 mm. Keywords: sex ratio, gonadal maturity size, Mackarel fish, Bone strait.

Abstract

Kerang hijau (Perna viridis) merupakan salah satu komoditas perikanan yang potensial untuk dikembangkan.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menduga parameter dinamika populasi kerang hijau meliputi kelompok umur,pertumbuhan, mortalitas, laju eksploitasi dan yield per recruitment. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulanApril sampai Mei 2015 di Perairan Mandalle, Kabupaten Pangkep. Analisis sampel dilakukan di LaboratoriumBiologi Perikanan, Universitas Hasanuddin. Penentuan kelompok umur dan laju pertumbuhan menggunakanmetode Bhattacharya dengan bantuan program Fish Stock Assesment (FISAT II). Penentuan mortalitas total (Z)menggunakan metode Beverton dan Holt, mortalitas alami (M) menggunakan metode Ricker dan Evanof,penentuan laju eksploitasi (E) dan yield per recruitment (Y/R) menggunakan persamaan Beverton dan Holt.Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh 1418 ekor kerang hijau dengan kisaran panjang cangkang mulai dari 19,6 hingga78,2 mm, terdiri dari 5 kelompok umur dengan panjang rataan masing-masing yaitu panjang rataan dari setiapkelompok umur kerang hijau : 31,46 mm, 39,85 mm, 50,13 mm, 58,89 mm dan 69,37 mm. Koefisien lajupertumbuhan (K) = 0,42 per bulan, L∞ = 82,75 mm, t0 = -0,5289 per bulan. Mortalitas total (Z) = 3,61 perbulan, mortalitas alami (M) = 1,147 per bulan, mortalitas penangkapan (F) = 2,46 per bulan. Eksploitasi (E) =0,6. Hal tersebut menunjukkan kerang hijau di Perairan Mandalle mengalami tingkat eksploitasi tinggi (overfishing), serta nilai Yield per Recruitment (Y/R) 0,0169 gram/recruitment.Kata kunci : Dinamika populasi, kerang hijau, Perna viridis, Pangkajene dan Kepulauan

Abstract

Data dan informasi yang pasti mengenai kerang simping di Sulawesi Selatan belum lengkap, sehingga diperlukan penelitian yang bertujuan mengevaluasi tingkat kematangan gonad kerang simping dibeberapa daerah untuk mengetahui keberadaan kerang ini. Data tersebut dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu data dasar dalam upaya pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan sumberdaya kerang simping di Sulawesi Selatan. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 6 bulan (Oktober 2015 – Maret 2016) di dua lokasi yaitu di perairan Makassar dan di perairan Kabupaten Pangkajene Kepulauan (Pangkep), Sulawesi Selatan. Pengambilan  sampel  kerang  dilakukan saat  surut  terendah  secara  manual. Pengamatan histologi dilakukan di Laboratorium Balai Karantina Makassar dan Balai Besar Veteriner Maros. Pengamatan visual dan histologi menghasilkan klasifikasi tingkat kematangan gonad kerang simping, terdapat empat fase TKG baik jantan maupun betina di semua lokasi penggamatan. Fase TKG I (awal aktif), TKG II (tahap berkembang), TKG III (matang) dan TKG IV tahap pemijahan. Berdasarkan data yang dihasilkan tipe pemijahan kerang simping yang terdapat di perairan Barat Sulawesi Selatan, dapat dikategorikan dalam tipe pemijahan partial spawner atau pemijahan sedikit-demi sedikit, dimana sperma dan telur tidak dikeluarkan dalam satu musim pemijahan.

Abstract

The Spermonde Islands are part of the mega diversity area in the world's coral triangle area, crossed by the Wallace line. The Spermonde Archipelago consists of 120 islands spread over four zones: the inner zone, middle inner zone, middle outer zone, and outer zone. Samalona Island is located in an inner zone with a high level of eutrophication, and Langkai Island is located in an outer zone with a high brightness level. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in zooxanthellae density in various life forms and coral reef zones in the inner and outer zones of the Spermonde Islands. Coral sampling was done at coral reef ecosystems on Samalona Island and Langkai Island using SCUBA tools, cutting tools, and plastic samples. The zooxanthellae were separated from their hosts using a modified airbrush sprayer with an air pressure of 3000 psi. The zooxanthellae density was calculated using the formula of Eaton et al. Water qualities were measured in-situ using the water quality checker. The data were analyzed using factorial analysis with two factors. This study indicates that the zooxanthellae density in the folios life form is higher than in the encrusting and branching life forms. This study indicates that: (1) the zooxanthellae density in the same life form is not significantly different between the inner zone and outer zone; (2) the comparison of the zooxanthellae density in the same coral reef zone was not significantly different between the inner and outer zones; (3) the comparison of zooxanthellae density in the same coral reef zone was significantly different between life forms in the inner zone (Samalona Island); (4) the comparison of the zooxanthellae density in the same coral reef zone was significantly different between the life forms in the outer zone (Langkai Island).

Abstract

There are 8 species of flatfish in the waters of the Spermonde archipelago, South Sulawesi, but only one has thick body, that is Psettodes erumei. Development of flatfish P.erumei populations can be done if its reproductive aspect is known. In this study we will examine the changes of liver through the Hepatosomatic Index (HSI) associated with the growth of oocytes based on Gonad Maturity Stage (GMS). The Hepatosomatic Index (HSI) is defined as the ratio of weight body to weight liver. The value of this index gives an indication of the status of energy reserves in animals. The results of this study indicate a change in liver weight based on HSI which increases following the increase of oocyte size based on GMS. HSI increased sharply after GMS II and ahead of GMS III, which then increase not too big again after GMS III. This suggests an increase in food reserves stored in the liver, to support the oocyte reaching the beginning of its gonad maturity.Keywords : Hepatosomatic Index (HSI), Gonad Maturity Stage (GMS), Oocyte, Reproduction, Flatfish Psettodes erumei
