Abstract

ABSTRACT Dengue fever is a global health concern characterized by severe thrombocytopenia and an increased risk of bleeding. Platelet transfusion is often used to manage thrombocytopenia, but its effectiveness remains uncertain. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy of platelet transfusion in preventing bleeding and improving clinical outcomes among dengue fever patients. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using keywords such as “platelet transfusion,” “dengue fever,” and “thrombocytopenia.” Nine studies, including randomized controlled trials and observational studies, were analyzed for outcomes related to bleeding incidence, platelet recovery, and hospitalization duration. The findings indicate that prophylactic platelet transfusion does not significantly reduce bleeding incidence or improve recovery rates in dengue patients. It may be associated with delayed platelet recovery, prolonged hospitalization, and increased risk of adverse events. Keywords: Dengue Fever, Platelet Transfusion, Thrombocytopenia, Bleeding, Hospitalization.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that is often found throughout the world and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Non-pharmacological approaches such as physical exercise, including resistance band exercises, can be effective in lowering blood pressure. However, the effectiveness of resistance band training in managing hypertension still requires further research. This article aims to assess the effectiveness of resistance band training in reducing blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. We conducted a systematic review of articles published in the period 2010-2023 using four main databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library, for articles discussing the use of resistance band exercises in hypertensive individuals with the search keywords being hypertension and resistance band exercise and combining Boolean operators (or, and, not) to achieve a more complete search. Three independent reviewers analyzed the articles based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through the initial search, 2,785 articles were found. Based on the PRISMA flowchart and after manual review, only 10 studies met the inclusion criteria and were identified for further analysis. The results of the review show that resistance band exercises performed regularly, especially for 8 weeks or more, can reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. This exercise was proven to be effective in reducing blood pressure, and this effect was more significant in the group that followed a regular exercise program. Significant changes in blood pressure were noted during an exercise program performed 2-3 times a week at moderate intensity. Resistance band training can be an effective non-pharmacological alternative in managing hypertension and has the potential to be part of the long-term management of hypertension. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal duration, intensity and frequency of exercise for maximum results.

Abstract

Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) remain a significant challenge in hospital settings, affecting patient safety and increasing healthcare costs. The implementation of Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS) has been proposed as a strategy to enhance compliance with infection prevention protocols among healthcare professionals. However, variations in adherence and technological adoption remain a concern. Objective: This study aims to assess the impact of HMIS on nurses’ compliance with infection prevention protocols in surgical settings by synthesizing existing research evidence. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Peer-reviewed studies published between 2019 and 2024 were analyzed, focusing on HMIS implementation, infection control compliance, and hospital-acquired infection (HAI) reduction. Results: The findings suggest that HMIS improves real-time monitoring, documentation accuracy, and adherence to infection control protocols. However, challenges such as workload, training gaps, and system integration issues hinder optimal compliance. Conclusion: HMIS plays a crucial role in enhancing infection prevention measures in hospitals. Future research should explore long-term effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and the integration of artificial intelligence to further optimize digital health interventions for infection control.

Background: Type II diabetes mellitus in the elderly requires long-term management with optimal family support. Mobile health (mHealth) technology offers a promising intervention to improve patients’ quality of life. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth applications in improving quality of life among elderly patients with type II diabetes mellitus through a systematic literature review. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA approach and the PICO framework. Literature searches were performed in Google Scholar, PubMed, Alberta Health Services, and Wiley Online Library using keywords related to mHealth, quality of life, and type II diabetes mellitus. Articles were screened based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: From 12 analyzed studies, mHealth application use for ≥3 months with active participation showed a significant improvement in quality of life compared to control groups. Early Detection Applications also had a positive impact on quality of life among elderly individuals at risk of type II diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: Implementation of mHealth applications focusing on lifestyle modifications effectively enhances quality of life in elderly patients with type II diabetes mellitus, supporting the use of technology-based interventions for chronic disease management..

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is a critical period in sexual decision-making, where sexual intention and self-control play a significant role in preventing risky behaviors. Valid and reliable measurement tools are essential for assessing these psychological constructs within specific cultural contexts. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Youth Sexual Intention Questionnaire (YSI-Q) and Self-Control Scale among adolescents in Indonesia. Methods: Five experts reviewed two sets of questionnaires. The cross-sectional pilot study was conducted with 403 adolescents. The YSI-Q and Self-Control Scale were translated and culturally adapted following standardized guidelines. The psychometric evaluation included content validity and internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha). Results: The content validation index of the Indonesian version of the Youth Sexual Intention Questionnaire and Self-Control Scale among adolescents was .900 and 1.000. Internal consistency was strong for YSI-Q (Cronbach’s α = .929) and the Self-Control Scale (Cronbach’s α = .828).Conclusion: The YSI-Q and Self-Control Scale exhibit strong reliability and validity, making them suitable for assessing adolescent sexual intention and self-control in research and clinical settings. Further validation in diverse adolescent subgroups is recommended. Keywords: adolescent, intention, psychometrics
