Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in students' speech writing skills before and after using the YouTube-assisted experiential learning model and to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the model in improving the speech writing skills of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 8 Cibitung. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non- equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 80 students divided into two classes, namely the control class (using the blended learning model) and the experimental class (using the YouTube-assisted experiential learning model). Data collection was carried out through observation, questionnaires, documentation, and tests. Data analysis techniques include normality, homogeneity, N-Gain, and t-test tests using SPSS version 30.0. The results showed that the average posttest score of students in the experimental class (86.5) was higher than the control class (73.8). The N-Gain value in the experimental class was 0.72 (quite effective category) while the control class was 0.39 (ineffective category). The results of the t-test showed a significant difference between the two (sig. <0.01). In addition, the results of the questionnaire showed an increase in students' positive perceptions of learning. Thus, the YouTube-assisted experiential learning model has proven to be effective compared to the blended learning model in improving the ability to write speech texts of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 8 Cibitungm.

Abstract

This study explores rural communities’ perceptions of public speaking by addressing three key aspects: (1) its meaning within the social context as a medium for self-expression and participation; (2) its role in constructing self-confidence through enhanced social support; and (3) its implications for Indonesian language education. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through in-depth interviews to capture subjective experiences, social meanings, and individual views related to public speaking in daily life. The findings indicate that rural communities regard public speaking as a space for self-expression and social engagement rather than a skill limited to formal settings. Self-confidence is strengthened when supported by the immediate social environment. Integrating public speaking into Indonesian language instruction, particularly speaking skills, should involve opportunities for students to practice in public contexts. In rural settings, public speaking functions not merely as a communicative ability but as a means of reinforcing identity, fostering collaboration, and encouraging active community participation.

Abstract

This study analysed the metacognitive awareness of 43 D-3 Mechanical Engineering students towards four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) through the Student-Centered Learning approach assisted by artificial intelligence. In contrast to previous studies that focused on quantitative correlation or test results, this study emphasizes metacognitive reflection and the role of AI as a facilitator. Primary data from exit ticket reflection, interactive quizzes, and monitoring of Brisk Boost activities were analysed qualitatively descriptively using case studies, iterative thematic coding, triangulation of sources and investigators, and member checks. The results showed that students were able to identify strengths (e.g., confidence in group discussions) and weaknesses (nervousness in speaking, weak writing structure). AI facilitates the transformation of general reflection into concrete SMART goals (e.g., 3x/week speaking practice for 5-7 minutes, reading 30 minutes/day with 5 new vocabulary), with 70% target achievement and up to 25% increase in cross-skill interaction. The integration of SCL-AI increases active engagement, intrinsic motivation, and awareness of skill interconnection. The findings contribute to the conceptual framework of metacognition–SCL–AI–SMART, with practical implications for lecturers, students, and vocational curricula.
