Abstract

Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist which can cause symptoms such as tingling, radiating pain, numbness, muscle weakness, stiffness, and possibly muscle wasting. In Denpasar, in 2021, workers were found to have a preval_ence of carpal tunnel syndrome of 79.2%. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the occurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome complaints among construction workers in PT PAJ Medan. The type of research was Quantitative with Observational methods with a Cross-Sectional approach. The total population is 40 workers with a sample of 40 respondents. The results of the analysis shown that there is a relationship between repetitive movements and the occurrence of CTS complaints in tailor workers in Deli Tua Village with a value of p = 0.005 (p < 0.05), there is a relationship between vibration and the occurrence of CTS complaints with a value of p = 0.002 (p < 0.05). The suggestion of this study conducted that to make a rest schedule while working and pay more attention to the complexity of making patterns so that they can reduce repetitive movements so that the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome decreases, take advantage of their rest hours by not increasing their working hours at night, stretch (such as relaxing the back muscles, neck, shoulders, hands and feet for 5-10 minutes).

Abstract

Indonesia is a disaster-prone country due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and the intersection of major tectonic plates, making disaster preparedness an urgent need, especially for elementary school students who are considered a vulnerable group. SD Negeri Lawe Tua in Aceh Tenggara District is located in an area highly prone to flash floods and landslides and has not yet implemented a structured disaster mitigation program. This community service program aims to improve student preparedness and strengthen school capacity through the Safe School Program (Sekolah Aman Bencana/SAB). The activities included disaster education, evacuation route training, establishment of a School Disaster Preparedness Team (SDPT), installation of evacuation signs and SOPs, and a full-scale evacuation drill. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests, evacuation time measurements, and observation of student behavior and teacher involvement. The results showed a significant increase in students’ knowledge, with average scores rising from 36% (pre-test) to 86% (post-test), reflecting a 50% improvement. Understanding of evacuation routes increased the most, reaching 65%. Teachers also demonstrated better readiness as facilitators, and the school gained more complete disaster mitigation facilities. In conclusion, SAB-based preparedness education is proven effective in enhancing students’ ability to respond to emergencies and strengthening school disaster management. The program is recommended for sustainable implementation and replication in other disaster-prone schools.

Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has significantly transformed workplace ergonomics through the integration of advanced technologies such as wearable sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), exoskeletons, and markerless motion capture systems. This literature review aims to examine recent innovations in ergonomic technologies that enhance work efficiency while safeguarding workers’ health and safety. Findings from studies published between 2023 and 2025 indicate that these technologies substantially reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, improve productivity, and enable real-time monitoring of workers’ physical conditions. Wearable sensors and AI-based systems play a crucial role in detecting hazardous postures and providing corrective feedback, whereas exoskeletons effectively reduce biomechanical strain during physically demanding tasks. Despite these promising outcomes, several challenges remain. The adoption of ergonomic technologies is often hindered by limited technical validation, inadequate user training, and ethical issues concerning worker data privacy. Moreover, user acceptance is influenced by factors such as comfort, trust, and perceived usefulness of the technology. Emerging debates also highlight potential risks of workplace discrimination associated with data-driven systems. Consequently, a human-centered design approach is essential to ensure that ergonomic innovations prioritize human well-being rather than solely focusing on operational efficiency. This study concludes that the success of ergonomic technologies in the Industry 4.0 era should be evaluated not only by their contribution to productivity but also by their ability to promote long-term occupational health, safety, and overall worker well-being.

Abstract

Occupational dermatitis is a skin disease that arises due to exposure to harmful substances or factors in the work environment while performing jobs. Symptoms of this disease include redness, heat, pain, blistering, and peeling of the skin. Irritant and allergic contact dermatitis are common types, with irritant contact dermatitis accounting for 80% and allergic contact dermatitis accounting for 14-20% of cases (Akbar, 2020). This study aims to determine the factors related to workers in motorcycle repair shops in Deli Tua Timur Village. The type of research is quantitative with observational methods and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 60 workers, with a sample of 60 respondents. The analysis results showed a significant relationship between age and symptoms of dermatitis among motorcycle repair shop workers in Deli Tua Timur Village, with a p-value of 0.002 < 0.05. There was also a significant relationship between work experience and symptoms of dermatitis, with a p-value of 0.005 < 0.05, and a significant relationship between personal hygiene and symptoms of dermatitis, with a p-value of 0.002 < 0.05. Recommendations for workers to prevent dermatitis include maintaining good personal hygiene to reduce the risk of developing dermatitis. Workers who develop dermatitis should seek medical attention promptly at a nearby health center or clinic to prevent the condition from worsening. To prevent symptoms of dermatitis, motorcycle repair shop workers should use gloves when working to protect their skin from chemicals or oil, clean their hands with soap and water before eating, and regularly wash their clothes after work.
