Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of Metalaksil-M on the disease incidence of downy mildew (Peronosclerospora maydis) and the yield of early-maturing corn genotype LL/TT-1. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments consisted of Metalaxyll-M (300 ml in 1000 ml water) applied to the seeds (soaked for 1 minute), applied by spraying to the plants 7 days after planting, and the control. The results showed that the genotype LL/TT-1 was not resistant to downy mildew. The dry weight of ear and seeds per 12 plants harvested from plants were 70 and 72% higher than those of control respectively. The dry weight of ear and seeds per 12 plants harvested from plants sprayed with Metalaxil-M were also significantly higher than those of control.Key words: Peronosclerospora maydis, metalaxyl, seed treatment, Zea mays L.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pre-germination treatment (physical and chemical) on the percentage and rate of germination of the f1 true seed of cassava derived from female parent UJ 3. The study consisted of two experiment, i.e., Experiment I and II. The pre-germination treatments for the two units experiment were the same, i.e., scarification of seed coat using sand paper, seed coat puncture, submerging the seed in one of the following liquid: the solution of H 2SO4 0,001M for 5 minutes, solution of H2SO4 0,001M for 10 minutes, solution of KNO3 3% for 48 hours, and water for 48 hours. The treatments were also compared to control. After being treated, the seeds were germinated on moistened paper (UKDdp) for Experiment I and on the soil medium in polybag for Experiment II. The two units of experiment were arranged in randomized block design with three replications. Soil medium consisted of mixture of soil and compost (1:1). The results showed that percentage and the rate of germination of the treatment of submerging seed of H2SO4 0,001M for 5 minutes followed by germination on soil medium were high. The percentage and the rate of germination for the treatment were 96%; 10,5% per day respectively; whereas for the control were 78,7% dan 6,8% per day. Scarification using sand paper indicated the percentage and rate of germination were high. It can be concluded that pre-germination treatment by submerging on H2SO4 0,001M for 5 minutes was suitable for germinating true seeds of cassava cv. Abstract

The objectives of the experiment were to (1) investigate the effect of seed imbibitions period on inducing somatic embryo of peanut varieties, (2) determine the best imbibitions period. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with eight replicates. Each experimental unit consisted of culture bottles each of which contained five leaflet explants. Two varieties of peanut of var. Kancil and var. Singa were imbibed in water for 0, 20, 40, and 60 hours before sown aseptically on MS medium. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and if there was any significant F result (s), the means were separated using least significant difference at P? 0.05. Results of the experiment showed that: (1) Imbibitions period had significant effect on inducing somatic embryo of peanut varieties, (2) For var. Kancil, the best embryo somatic numbers and embryonic callus percentage were produced by 40 hours of imbibitions, while for var. Singa were produced by 20 hours imbibitions.  Key words: peanut, imbibitions period, MS medium, somatic embryo.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the resistance to cowpea mild motlle virus (CPMMV) of 19 F1 population of soybean showing good agronomic characters. The F1 population were generated by complete diallel crosses involving a resistant parent (Mlg 2521), a moderately resistant parent (B 3570), and three susceptible parents (Orba, Wilis, and GKUL-1). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized block design consisted of two replications. The results indicated that F1 population B 3570 x Mlg 2521 was resistant to CPMMV and superior in seed weight per plant, number of branches, plant height, total number of pods, total number of seeds, and the number of healthy seeds. F1 population Wilis x B 3570 and B 3570 x Wilis were moderately resistant and less superior in agronomic characters than B 3570 x Mlg 2521.Key words: CPMMV, diallel, Glycine max,viral resistance

Abstract

Experiments were conducted at farm area Gedung Pakuon village?s Kecamatan Baradatu Kabupaten Way Kanan ? Lampung and the Laboratory of Seed of Lampung University, on April 2009 to Januari 2010. In the first experiment used P1 (brown/C), P2 (black), dan F1 (C x H), to have seed for planted on the second experiment. In the second experiment the population of P1 (coklat), P2 (hitam), F1 (C x H), F1 resiprok (H x C), BC1 (F1 x C), BC2(F1 x H), dan F2. Were tested to estimasi number of controlling gen, gene action, and maternall effect. The character were observed i.e. the colour of seed skin and the colour of pods.  The result showed that F2 population in the colour of pods were not normal distribution, and base on estimated number of gen this character was controlled by 2 genes with inheritance controlled by a simple gen. Inheritance pattern of the colour of seed skin have complex equivalent, and segregation in F2 population. The colour of pods with mendelian ratio of 12:3:1 (dark green : green : bright green). Result of experiment to maternal effect indicated that there was maternal effect in the the colour of seed skin, but not in the colour of pods.Key Words: yardlong bean, maternall effect, heritability

Abstract

The objective of this study was to estimate correlation, variances, and heritability of agronomic characters of yardlong-bean F3 population derived from crosses between black and striped-black testa. An F3 population consisted 90 plants along with the two parents (20 plants per parent) were planted in unreplicated trial in Hajimena, Rajabasa, Bandar Lampung in 2008. Variables observed included flowering date, fresh-harvesting date, harvesting date, the number of flower stalks per plants,the number of pod per plant, the average number of locules per pod, the total number of seeds per plant, and the weight of 100 seeds. The results indicated that the estimate of genotypic and phenotypic variances and broad-sense heritability were high for all variables observed. The estimates were significant for the correlation between dry-seed weight per plant and the following variables: number of flower stalks per plant, number of pods per plant, the average number of loculs per pod, and the number of seeds per plants. Based on consumer demand and solid fresh peas can be obtained on the genotypes of the number 6, 7, 9, 11, 14, 19, 22, 28, 66, and 67. There are no pods which exceeds 50 cm in length.Keywords: correlation, heritability, variances, Vigna sinensis, yard-long beans

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest cassava producing countries in the world with various types and advantages. Waxy clones have a high starch content and therefore they can be used as a food substitute for rice. Tissue culture through somatic embryogenesis is an effective technique for rapid and mass seedling propagation. This research aimed to determine the effect of the type and concentration of auxin 2,4-D or picloram and the addition of NAA on the formation of Waxy cassava clone somatic embryos. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) which was arranged in a non-factorial. Auxin 2,4-D and picloram were used at four concentration levels: 0 mg.l-1, 8 mg.l-1, 10 mg.l-1, 12 mg.l-1, and additional NAA treatment of 6 mg.l-1 each. Results showed that MS + 6 mg.l-1 NAA treatment produced the highest callus weight. Meanwhile, the percentage of embryonic callus and number of embryo was higher in the treatment of MS + picloram 12 mg.l-1 and NAA 6 mg.l-1 (19,05 ± 5,82 %) and MS + 8 mg.l-1 2,4-D + 6 mg.l-1 NAA (11,11 ± 3,17 %) with 5,48 ± 3,56 and 4,93 ± 1,95 embryos, respectively. Thus, auxin picloram 12 mg.l-1 + NAA 6 mg.l-1 were the most effective in inducing the formation of somatic embryos on waxy cassava clone.

Abstract

Cassava is a plant that is ranked third as a source of food in Indonesia. Apart from that, cassava is also needed in industries such as making tapioca flour. In 2021, cassava production in Lampung will be around 20-25 t/ha, this amount is still below the potential of superior cassava which reaches 35-40 t/ha. Cassava growth and production depend on the variety and land where it is cultivated. This research aims to determine the differences in growth and production of several early maturing cassava clones tested, namely Vamas-1, Vati-1, and UTK on Ultisol soil in the PT GGP research area. This research was carried out on the land of the PT GGP research division, Central Lampung, Lampung. This research was carried out from August 2022 to February 2023. The research method used was a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with one treatment, namely clones. There are 3 clones used, namely Vamas-1, Vati-1, and UTK. The experiment on each clone consisted of 3 replications with 36 plants in each replication, but 5 plants were selected from each replication as samples, so that 45 experimental units were obtained. The observation data was analyzed and then compared with the UJ5 clone data based on the Standard Deviation to determine the early maturation characteristics of the three clones. The results showed that clone treatment had no significant effect on growth and production. The number of fresh sweet potatoes at 24 weeks after planting (WAP) in terms of the quantity of clones Vamas-1, Vati-1, UTK, and UJ5 respectively was 7.3; 6.6; 6.3; and 7.3 fruit/plant with a fresh sweet potato weight of 2316,7; 2183,3; 2150,0; and 1433,3 g/plant. Abstract

The advantages of 'Crystal' guava in Indonesia provide opportunities for farmers to cultivate and increase their production. Various methods of cultivation have been developed to increase the production of 'Crystal' guava, one of which is the use of Growth Regulators. Paclobutrazol is a plant PGR that regulates flowering outside the harvest season so that the production of 'Crystal' guava fruit can be maintained. The purpose of this study was to determine the best concentration of the effect of Paclobutrazol treatment in increasing the flowering of 'Crystal' guava plants. The research was conducted from August 2021 to March 2022 in Rajabasa Lama 1 Village, Labuhan Ratu District, East Lampung Regency. The treatment was carried out in a factorial manner using a single factor randomized block design with three replications so that 36 experimental units were obtained. The first factor was Paclobutrazol (A) which consisted of 6 treatment levels, there are A1 (0 ppm), A2 (4000 ppm), A3 (6000 ppm), A4 (8000 ppm), A5 (10,000 ppm), A6 (12,000 ppm). Paclobutrazol treatment with a concentration of 10,000 ppm gave the best results on the variables of flower number, number of ovules, number of harvested fruit and weight of harvested fruit. Keywords : Paclobutrazol, Concentration, ‘Crystal’ Guava Plants

Abstract

Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is generally cultivated in monoculture (sole cropping) by farmers in the highlands as main crops. Increasing land use efficiency (LUE) by inter-cropping sorghum on bean requires certain cultivation techniques so as not reducing the production of seeds or fresh fruit bean. This experiment aimed at determine 1) the yields of seeds and fresh pods harvested from the bean-sorghum intercropping compared to those from the sole cropping and 2) the LUE of the bean-sorghum intercropping.  The research, which was conducted during April-September 2021 in Sekincau District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia used dwarf beans Balitsa-2 variety and climbing bean Horti-3 variety, each of which to be intercropped with sorghum of Numbu variety. Five levels of cropping system treatment were arranged in a Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with six groups as six replications. The results showed that there was no difference the seeds yield and fresh pods of bean between those harvested from bean-sorghum intercropping and from monocultures. The seed yield harvested from the dwarf bean-sorghum intercropping was higher, whereas those harvested from the climbing bean-sorghum intercropping was lower, respectively, compared to those harvested from the monoculture. In producing fresh pods, intercroppings of dwarf bean-sorghum and climbing bean-sorghum increased the LUE, respectively. Whereas in producing seeds, the dwarf bean-sorghum intercropping increased the LUE, but the climbing bean-sorghum intercropping decreased the LUE. Key words : bean, fresh pods, intercropping, seeds, sorghum
