Abstract

Mobile devices are essential to improving student learning outcomes in hydroponic plant cultivation courses when used as a complementary tool and demonstration and discovery learning methods (also known as demons-disco learning). This course increases students' understanding and skills in cultivating plants, especially vegetables, using hydroponic techniques and mobile devices. Mobile-based applications offer new experiences in terms of information and communication technology and opportunities for students to engage in independent learning. The learning approach chosen includes providing understanding information, an overview of components and varieties, and an assessment through questions about hydroponic plant cultivation. So, a teacher must design learning by producing material to help students overcome problems in raising hydroponic plants. This research uses a research and development (R&D) approach in product creation, utilizing three of the four research phases: definition (identifying potential and problems, data collection), product design, and development (validating the design, refining the design, and testing the product). The trial was conducted on a small scale with 36 students through a discovery learning learning design. This article will discuss the research findings and the following implementation steps.

Abstract

Agricultural extension institutions serve as communication hubs that facilitate the exchange of information between farmers, the government, and institutional partners of farmer groups. Farmers must receive clear and practical information from extension institutions. This study aims to ascertain the role and function of extension institutions in promoting agricultural development in the plantation sector in Bogor. Additionally, it intends to identify extension workers' challenges and evaluate their contribution to agricultural development. The study employed a qualitative approach, utilizing data-gathering methods like observation and interviews. The participants included farmers, farming instructors, and members of the extension sector from the Bogor Agricultural Institute. The research findings elucidate the significance and function of plantation agricultural extension institutions in rural development, encompassing services, communication centers, and institutional development centers. The potential of partnerships and the role of extension institutions, including program planning and preparation, information provision and dissemination, human resource development, administrative structuring, and evaluation activities, have yet to be fully utilized. There is a demand for more agricultural teachers specializing in plantation crops and improved training opportunities for these instructors. Additionally, there should be a clear policy to facilitate the transition of plantation instructors to become instructors for food crops. Agricultural (plantation) development contributes to economic growth, community welfare, and enhanced plantation output outcomes. There is an expectation that the decrease in production output of various commodities, such as cloves, rubber, cocoa, and coffee, can be enhanced by augmenting the knowledge and expertise of farmers and their families while transforming their traditional farming practices into more modern ones.

Abstract

This research identifies various types of insect vectors that are capable of spreading disease-causing viruses in sugarcane plants in Indonesia and explores methods of controlling them. The main vector insects are from the order Hemiptera, which have piercing and sucking type mouthparts. These insects play an important role in the spread of viruses such as sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), sugarcane streak mosaic virus (SCSMV), and sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV), which can cause significant deterrence in national sugarcane productivity. This research uses a qualitative modeling approach by reviewing the literature to collect data regarding methods of controlling virus vector insects. The research results show that insect vector control must be carried out in an integrated manner, prioritizing technical and biological control methods as well as routine monitoring. The use of insecticides is recommended only if the insect population increases significantly. These results provide practical guidance for reducing the negative impact of insect vectors on sugarcane productivity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Animal fertilizer comes from animal waste and has undergone a decomposition process. The use of animal fertilizer has a potential risk to farmers' health if they do not heed Occupational Health and Safety (K3) standards for the personal safety of coffee farmers. The impact is that coffee farmers can be infected with worms transmitted through the soil (Soil Transmitted Helminth). This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of Cibulao coffee farmers about preventing Soil-Transmitted Helminth worm infections in the application of animal fertilizer through counselling and technical guidance. The community service partners are the Cibulao coffee farmer group. The methods used are counselling, technical guidance and evaluation. The number of participants who attended this technical guidance was 17 coffee farmers. The training occurred in Telaga Saat Village, Cisarua District, Bogor Regency. The results of this community service activity show that there has been an increase in understanding of measures to prevent STH infection when using animal fertilizer. This increase can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results carried out before and after providing the material and technical guidance. The success of this program can be seen in farmers who are skilled in applying animal fertilizer using K3 and the desire for sustainable technical guidance regarding the maintenance and health care of goats and sheep.

Abstract

Information technology has significantly transformed various facets of life, including education, specifically the learning process in higher education. Integrating information technology in education has empowered students to create and utilize diverse digital learning resources. Mobile devices play a vital role in improving student learning outcomes in hydroponic plant growing lessons when used as an additional tool with demonstration and discovery learning approaches, often known as demons-disco learning. This course utilizes hydroponic techniques and mobile devices to improve students' understanding and skill in cultivating vegetables. Mobile applications offer innovative experiences in information and communication technology and opportunities for students to engage in self-directed learning. The chosen learning methodology involves imparting extensive knowledge, a thorough understanding of many components and variations, and an assessment through inquiries about the cultivation of hydroponic plants. Thus, a teacher must develop instructional material that helps students overcome difficulties associated with cultivating hydroponic plants. This study employed a research and development (R&D) approach to fabricate a product, encompassing three of the four research phases: definition (identifying possibilities and issues, gathering data), product design, and development (validating the design, improving the design, and testing the product). Nevertheless, this research is limited to the third phase, notably the validation phase. The findings suggest that the THD (Tomato-Hydroponic-Demonsdisco) learning media is suitable for use. This article will thoroughly analyze THD media and its utilization in lectures.
