Abstract

The prevalence of overweight among adolescents is a significant health issue that can be influenced by various factors, including nutrition knowledge, family socioeconomic status, and consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs). This study was conducted at JHS 9 in Jambi City to explore the relationships between these factors and overweight status among adolescents. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between nutrition knowledge, family socioeconomic status, and SSB consumption with overweight status among adolescents at JHS 9 in Jambi City. The study used a correlational analytical design with a sample of 39 adolescents. Data were collected through questionnaires to assess nutrition knowledge, socioeconomic status, and SSB consumption, as well as anthropometric measurements to evaluate overweight status. The majority of respondents had inadequate nutrition knowledge (76.9%), low socioeconomic status (61.5%), and high SSB consumption (87.2%). Data analysis revealed no significant relationships between nutrition knowledge, socioeconomic status, and SSB consumption with overweight status among the adolescents at the study site. These findings suggest that nutrition knowledge, socioeconomic status, and SSB consumption are not significantly related to overweight status among adolescents at JHS 9 Jambi City. This indicates the need for further exploration of other factors that might contribute to overweight status, as well as a more comprehensive approach in future research

Abstract

The most frequently encountered nutritional problem in adolescents is anemia. The prevalence of anemia in Indonesia in women aged 15-24 years is 84.6%. Adolescent girls are more vulnerable than adolescent boys. This is because the need for iron in teenage girls who are menstruating is three times greater than that of boys. The aim of this research is to describe the knowledge and behavior of adolescents in preventing anemia at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City. This research is descriptive research conducted to determine the description of adolescent knowledge and behavior in preventing anemia. This research took place at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City with a sample size of 94 young women. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. Next, the data was analyzed using univariate analysis to get an idea of the frequency distribution of all the variables studied. The research results showed that the largest age distribution of respondents was 15 and 16 years old (34%), the highest class distribution of respondents was in class Anemia prevention behavior: The majority of respondents had poor behavior, 83 respondents (88.3%). It is recommended that schools improve facilities that support increasing knowledge about anemia among young women. This can be done by holding routine counseling every semester or checking hemoglobin (Hb) levels periodically

Abstract

Anemia is a health condition in which the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin is less than normal (<12 g/dl). Factors that can cause anemia are nutritional knowledge and abnormal menstrual cycles. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional knowledge and menstrual cycles with the incidence of anemia in female adolescents at Aliyah Islamic Boarding School in Jambi Province. This type of research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted at Al-Hidayah Islamic Boarding School in Jambi. The time of this research was conducted in February-June 2024. Data collection by interviewing, filling out a nutritional knowledge questionnaire and checking Hb. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis using the Spearman correlation test. The results of the study showed that the percentage of Nutrition Knowledge was lacking as many as 45 female students (58.4%), Menstrual Cycle was abnormal as many as 47 respondents (61%), the incidence of anemia of respondents experienced anemia as many as 39 respondents (50.6%). There is a significant relationship between Nutrition Knowledge and the incidence of anemia, the significance value (p-value) is 0.001 (<0.05). There is a significant relationship between the menstrual cycle and the incidence of anemia, the significance value (p-value) is 0.000 (<0.05). It can be concluded that nutritional knowledge and menstrual cycles are related to the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls.

One of the nutritional problems that is often encountered in young women is anemia. Teenage girls are prone to suffering from anemia because they lose a lot of blood during menstruation. Adolescent girls who suffer from anemia are at risk of developing anemia during pregnancy. Anemia also increases the risk of impaired learning concentration and decreased academic achievement. Considering the magnitude of this problem, one of the efforts to overcome anemia in young women is by taking the supplement Blood Increasing Tablets. The aim of this activity is to increase young women's knowledge about the importance of blood supplement tablets. This community service activity was carried out at the Al Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Jambi City, targeting 20 young women. The method provided is through lectures, discussions and questions and answers, pre-test and post-test. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in the knowledge of young women after being given health education about the importance of blood supplement tablets to prevent anemia. Abstract

Anemia, particularly iron deficiency anemia, is a significant global health problem, with a high prevalence among adolescent girls. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anemia reaches 23.7%, and adolescent girls are among the most vulnerable groups due to menstruation and unhealthy diets. One risk factor is the habit of consuming tea, especially black tea, which contains tannins and can inhibit the absorption of non-heme iron. Conversely, consumption of iron-enhancing foods such as vitamin C and animal protein is known to increase iron absorption. This study aims to determine the relationship between tea consumption habits and consumption of iron-enhancing foods with hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach and was conducted in May 2025 at SMPN 5 Jambi City. A sample of 77 female students was randomly selected from a population of 358 people. Data were collected through the SQ-FFQ questionnaire and hemoglobin levels were measured using the Hbchecker tool. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately with the Chi-square test (α < 0.05). The results showed that 74% of respondents had a high tea consumption habit, and 54.5% had anemia. There was a significant relationship between tea consumption habits and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.000). However, no significant relationship was found between consumption patterns of iron-enhancing foods and hemoglobin levels (p > 0.05). In conclusion, tea drinking habits are associated with an increased risk of anemia, while consumption of iron-enhancing foods has not shown a significant effect

Abstract

Background: There are many factors that can cause anemia, including nutritional status, low consumption levels (fe) and abnormal menstrual cycles. Aims: To determine the relationship between nutritional status, levels of consumption of Fe iron nutrients and menstrual cycles with the incidence of anemia in female adolescents at SMPN 18, Merangin Regency. Methods : This type of research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design and data collection by means of interviews, checking Hb and distributing questionnaires. The number of samples is 48 teenagers. Data analysis in this study used Univariate and Bivariate analysis using the chi square test to determine the relationship between the dependent variable (Nutritional Status, Consumption Level of iron (fe) nutrients and Menstrual Cycle) with the dependent variable (The incidence of anemia in young women) Results: The results showed that the percentage of under/over nutritional status was 29 respondents (60.4%), the level of iron (fe) consumption was lacking by 35 respondents (72.9%), the menstrual cycle was abnormal by 30 (62.5%). %), the incidence of anemia was 43 (89.6%). There is a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.041), there is a relationship between the consumption level of iron (fe) and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.006) and there is a relationship between the menstrual cycle and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.022). Conclusion: In this study it can be concluded that the incidence of anemia is quite high in SMPN 18 Merangin District. It is recommended for adolescents to maintain their food intake, because it affects health.
