Abstract

The issue of stunting is a global problem that has become the focus of the government's efforts to address it. Based on observations of the nutritional status of toddlers at Posyandu Harapan Ibu, 6 out of 149 toddlers, ten are experiencing stunting, accounting for approximately 6.71% of the total number of toddlers. An initial survey conducted by the community engagement team among ten mothers with toddlers in the Posyandu Harapan Ibu 6 area revealed that most (80%) of these mothers lack knowledge regarding stunting, its prevention, management, and associated risks. The Mata Air area in Padang City, which is part of Posyandu Harapan Ibu 6, has a relatively high prevalence of stunting. However, the potential of family backyard spaces in this area has yet to be optimally utilized. This community engagement initiative aims to enhance the use of family backyard spaces as a source of nutrition for families to prevent stunting. The method employed involves educating local volunteers about the benefits of family backyard spaces as an alternative source of family food, followed by the distribution of plant seeds and planting media. The results of the outreach activities indicate that (1) participants respond to the outreach activities with enthusiasm and vigor, (2) Participants actively engage and proactively participate in the outreach process, and (3) Participants have initiated the implementation of recommendations by utilizing family backyard spaces as a source of food and nutrition for their families by planting the provided plant seeds. This community engagement effort represents a positive endeavor to prevent stunting in the Mata Air area.

Abstract

Health center Pakan Rabaa in District 50 City faces obstacles in achieving the Minimum Service Standard (SPM) for elderly health, recorded as the second lowest rank out of 11 health centers. Community service initiatives were carried out to empower the elderly and increase the independence of elderly ADLs through health screening activities, elderly gymnastics, and physical and cognitive skills training. Activities involved health centers, integrated healthcare centers, and cadres. The goal was to improve health services and target coverage of SPM for Elderly Health in the Pakan Rabaa Health Center area. Methods involved physical gymnastics, brain gymnastics exercises, and ADL, Mental, and BMI screening. Screening results showed more likely with independent ADL status. The depression scale is standard, while the average BMI is close to mild obesity, but many are under normal conditions. More than 50 seniors participated in gymnastics, creating positive experiences, encouragement, and opportunities to share experiences. ADL and depression screening activities can be continued using the g-form. It is important to regularly schedule gymnastics activities and train in physical and cognitive skills to improve the achievement of screening targets at the health center and SPM for Elderly Health Services in the area.

Abstract

Utilizing limited land for agricultural activities in urban areas is an effective alternative solution in providing healthy food for families, while reducing household costs. Aquaponic systems, which integrate fish and plant farming in a mutually beneficial recirculating ecosystem, utilize natural bacteria to convert fish waste and feed residues into nutrients for plants. Thus, aquaponics allows plants and fish to grow together in one cycle, maximizing the use of a small area of land. This service activity aims to help the Women Farmers Group (KWT) find the right solutions and strategies in overcoming the problem of limited land. One of these efforts is the creation of an innovative device in the form of a simple aquaponics system for the Jirak Serumpun Women Farmers Group, using the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) method. The aquaponics program implemented in Mata Air Village, Padang Selatan Sub-district, Padang City, has had a positive impact on the community. This training not only provides economic and social benefits, but also offers an effective solution in utilizing narrow yards productively and economically.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Pemberdayaan perempuan, Kelompok wanita tani, Ikan nila, Produk olahan, nugget ABSTRACT This community service activity aims to improve the skills and income of members of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Mata Air Village through training in making tilapia-based processed products, namely fish nuggets. The main problem faced by the partner group is the suboptimal utilization of harvests from tilapia cultivation activities and the still limited knowledge and skills in processing the harvest into products with high economic value. Therefore, this activity is designed to address the needs of partners through an applicable and sustainable empowerment approach. The implementation method of the activity consists of several stages, namely program socialization to KWT members, technical training in making tilapia nuggets, assistance in the production process, and evaluation and monitoring of activity results. The training results showed a significant increase in the understanding and skills of KWT members in processing fish into ready-to-consume products with good taste, and promising market potential. This activity not only increases individual capacity, but also has a positive impact on women's economic empowerment, strengthens family food security, and opens up new entrepreneurial opportunities based on sustainable local potential

Abstract

Objectives: Covid-19 pandemic affected all sectors, including health. Stunting prevalence in Indonesia by 2019 is 26.67%, above 20% of Indonesia’s target. This study aims to review the implementation of specific interventions for the 1st 1000 days of life to prevent stunting in Padang City during Covid-19 Pandemic. Method: The design in this study uses mixed methods. This study took place in August 2020 – February 2021 at two health centers (Belimbing and Seberang Padang). A systemic approach was made for a qualitative method, and there were 11 informants required in this study determined by purposive sampling. Data collection uses in-depth interviews, observations, and document review, with data source and method triangulation. The quantitative method was analyzed using univariate analysis to observe the differences in 2019 and 2020 specific interventions for stunting. Result: This pandemic affected two study health centers. Most interventions did not reach their targets, such as exclusive breastfeeding, complete basic immunization, health promotion activities, vitamin A and folic acid intake, and pregnancy visits to healthcare facilities. Puskesmas Seberang Padang distinguished Covid-19 task force and stunting interventions team, and in Puskesmas Belimbing add more days for immunization. Diarrheas increased from 92 to 101 cases in 2018 and 2019 at Seberang Padang, while decreased from 101 to 56 cases at the Belimbing. Conclusion: Both health centers have different strategies and priorities for tackling stunting during the Covid-19 pandemic. In short, many interventions did not reach the target. The trend of diarrheal in 2018 and 2019 at Puskesmas Seberang Padang decreased and increased at Puskesmas Belimbing. Both health centers need to maximize the intervention for stunting during the Covid-19 pandemic by sticking to health protocols.
