Abstract

The agricultural sector is the backbone of the national economy, which is still dominated by manual work practices with high ergonomic risks. This impacts health, workplace accidents, and occupational diseases. This study aims to identify, analyze, and evaluate ergonomic risk factors in work activities in the agricultural sector, particularly in the process of preparing rice fields. This process consists of manual hoeing, manual land leveling, and land cultivation with a tractor. The study location is in Kolelet Village, Picung District, Pandeglang Regency, which is one of the rice granaries in Banten Province. The results of the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire showed that the most complaints were found in manual land leveling workers, followed by manual hoeing workers, and the least in tractor operators. The body parts most frequently experiencing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) were the shoulders, back, waist, arms, thighs, and calves. The results of the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (REBA) analysis show that the work posture value for manual hoeing is 10 (High Risk), for manual land leveling the REBA value is 12 (Very High Risk), while for tractor operator work, the REBA value is 5 (Medium Risk). From the OWAS analysis, all three jobs are in the Red category, with the main factors being the workload and duration. For work environment conditions, 12:00 to 14:00 is the most dangerous hour with temperature, humidity in the danger category, and the UV index categorized as very high. The noise factor from the tractor sound ranges from 81-89 dB, still in safe conditions, with a work duration of between 2-6 hours a day.

Abstract

Office workers are at high risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders due to prolonged static sitting positions. This study was conducted at the Indonesia Exim bank to explore the relationship between office chair design particularly the presence of lumbar support and musculoskeletal complaints. The methods used included questionnaires, as well as assessments using RULA and the Nordic Body Map, involving 32 participants. The results indicated that the lower back and waist were the most frequently reported areas of discomfort. Although the chairs used were ergonomically designed, the lumbar support was not optimal. By designing a lumbar support based on anthropometric data, a significant improvement in posture comfort was observed.

Abstract

In the printing industry, ergonomic factors are often overlooked despite their significant impact on worker health and productivity. PT XYZ, as a packaging and carton printing company, is facing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) complaints in workers in the manual handling section due to non-ergonomic workstation design. This study aims to identify ergonomic risk factors, analyze MSDs complaints, and design ergonomic workstation improvements. The methods used include Nordic Body Map (NBM) for complaint mapping, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) for work posture analysis, and Workplace Ergonomic Risk Assessment (WERA) for ergonomic risk evaluation. The NBM questionnaire shows that the body parts of the 1st and 2nd shift workers who predominantly experience pain complaints are pain in the back, left hand and right knee. While the REBA method obtained a value of 9 in the most extreme posture which means high risk and needs improvement. While in WERA the final score is 34 which means that the tasks performed by workers need to be investigated and needed for improvement. Therefore, the design of work tables and work chairs is carried out to improve the work posture of PT XYZ workers. This design is tailored to the needs of workers at PT XYZ so as to reduce the risks that are likely to occur.

Abstract

Work fatigue is an important aspect and is very influential in determining the level of accidents, especially motorbike accidents. According to WHO, almost 30% of all deaths due to road accidents involve two- and three-wheeled motorized vehicles, such as motorbikes, mopeds, scooters and electric bicycles (e-bikes), and the number continues to increase. Motorcycles dominate road deaths in many low- and middle-income countries, where nine out of ten traffic accident deaths occur among motorcyclists, as in Indonesia. However, until now, in Indonesia, there has been no monitoring system capable of identifying fatigue in motorbike drivers in the transportation sector. This research aims to determine fatigue patterns based on driver working hours and create a sensor system to monitor fatigue measurements in real-time to reduce the number of accidents. The research began with processing questionnaire data with Pearson correlation, which showed a close relationship between driver fatigue and driving time and a close relationship between fatigue and increased heart rate and sweating levels. From calibration tests with an error of 3% and direct measurements of working conditions, it was found that two-wheeled vehicle driver fatigue occurs after 2-3 hours of work. With a measurement system using the Box Whiskers analysis method, respondents' working conditions can also be determined, which are divided into 4 zones, namely zone 1 (initial condition or good condition), zone 2 a declining condition, zone 3 a tired condition and zone 4 is a resting condition. Hopefully, this research will identify fatigue zones correctly and reduce the number of accidents because it can identify tired drivers so they do not have to force themselves to continue working and driving their motorbikes. As a conclusion from this research, a measurement system using two sensors, such as ECG and GSR can identify work fatigue zones well and is expected to reduce the number of accidents due to work fatigue.

Abstract

This study aims to identify employees’ mental workload and evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive ergonomics strategies within the team-based work system at PT. XYZ. Data collection involved the NASA-TLX method for measuring mental workload, the DASS-21 questionnaire to assess psychological conditions, and employee perceptions regarding the implementation of cognitive ergonomic strategies. Additionally, Pearson correlation analysis, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and a Pareto diagram were used to support data interpretation. The results showed that most respondents experienced light to moderate mental workload, with generally positive perceptions toward the applied ergonomic strategies. Although statistical correlations among variables were not significant, data patterns and field findings suggest that cognitive ergonomics contribute to stress reduction and increased productivity. In conclusion, implementing appropriate and sustainable cognitive ergonomic strategies is essential to support mental health in a team-based work environment.
