Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dual roles of informal female tin miners (“pelimbang”) in Pemali Village, Bangka Regency, within the dynamics of family relationships. The main issue addressed is how women manage the burden of working in the informal mining sector while simultaneously fulfilling domestic responsibilities in a strongly patriarchal cultural context. This research employed a qualitative exploratory case study approach, using in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving female miners and village officials. The key findings reveal that female “pelimbang” utilize interpersonal communication strategies, such as gradual self-disclosure and open discussion, to negotiate their roles within the family. The Social Penetration Theory (SPT) explains the depth of interpersonal relationships developed through layered disclosure, while the Uncertainty Reduction Theory (URT) illustrates how these women reduce domestic tensions arising from unclear role boundaries. The study concludes that interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in maintaining family stability, despite the economic and cultural pressures these women face. These findings contribute theoretically to family communication studies and offer practical implications for policies that support the empowerment of women in the informal workforce.

Abstract

OJK surveys (2019 and 2022) show that the financial literacy index is lower than the financial inclusion index. The fact that the Financial Education Working Group has not carried out communication activities (diffusion) effectively. This study tries to see the innovation of communication activities from the Financial Education Working Group, as an agent of change in communication activities related to financial literacy to the community, so far. The Diffusion Theory of Innovation from Everett M. Rogers (1995) is used to explain the problem. The method using multiple case studies from Yin (2022) is qualitative descriptive. Interviews were conducted in ”snowball” manner to members of the Financial Education Working Group and the data were analyzed through the interactive model Miles & Huberman (2007). The results show that the relative advantage of diffusion innovation exists, but it is not too significant because of the lack of participation. Compatibility diffusion approaches differ from method to method and are only effective when tailored to the target or recipient of the information. In terms of complexity, the diffusion approaches used are relatively easy because they are often used in, such as,  seminars, workshops, counseling, or in the use of digital media. These diffusion approaches meet the element of trialability.observability; the diffusion approach used can be observed and results include, the number of participants, the enthusiasm of participants, the number of activities, and others.

Abstract

One of the company's heavy burdens is being inefficient with an excessive number of employees, who ultimately become unproductive because they exceed the company's capabilities, namely both organic and non-organic employees/outsourcing. The research aims to analyze the role and efforts made by the PTKS Corporate Communication Division in the Restructuring program. The theories used are co-orientation theory and adaptive structural theory (AST). The method used is a case study, with data collection techniques through observation and interviews with several credible informants who know and are involved in this problem. The research results show that the role of PTKS Corporate Communication in managing crisis communications tends to be limited by the principal director of PT Krakatau Steel in terms of communication and publication to the public, especially to the media, to ensure that restructuring program information is released from one door. In this case, the leadership of the PTKS President Director was very dominant; at that time, only a few employees were allowed to speak to the public. It shows that in this restructuring program, the role of the Corporate Communication Division is different from the task description set by the company.

Abstract

Recent data have shown that approximately 5.86% of 275.773 million of the Indonesian population are practicing open defecation. To align with the sustainable development goals (SDGs), efforts are being made to eradicate unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, including open dedication, by 2030. This achievement requires the intervention of both government and non-governmental organizations, as shown by LAZ HARFA in the Banten Province. The organizations successfully motivated impoverished citizens to construct proper sanitation facilities without subsidies. This study aimed to understand social construction of the impoverished community towards unsubsidized healthy latrines program implemented by LAZ HARFA in the Kertaraharja village, Pandeglang Regency, Banten. The analysis was carried out using a qualitative approach, by employing a purposive sampling technique to select informants based on their involvement in healthy latrines program. The total number of informants was 15, consisting of 8, 6, and 4 as key, main, and additional informants, respectively. The results showed that the community firmly believed in achieving unsubsidized healthy latrines program was possible, despite their impoverished conditions. This program was recognized as a step towards adopting a clean and healthy lifestyle. The community shifted the mindset from practicing open defecation to embracing a clean and healthy lifestyle through collaborative efforts, conducting transcheck walks, village mapping, and making commitments to participate in healthy latrines program. Furthermore, social interaction was fostered among the community through the purchase of materials for constructing latrines facilities and toiletries. LAZ HARFA also employed participatory development communication model that focused on provocation and simulation to evoke feelings of shame, disgust, and nausea. The community introduced economic empowerment and environmental quality enhancement programs to accelerate the progress of healthy latrines program.

Abstract

Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis (KWI) was president for the first term from 2014 to 2019 and for the second term from 2019 to 2025. During his time in office, some populist groups in Romania said that joining the European Union (EU) brought economic problems, foreign culture, unhappiness with government, feeling like they lost rights, being unhappy with the EU, and worrying about losing control over their country. This kind of populism happened not only in Romania but also in other EU countries. The goal of this research is to understand what populism means, how people think about it, and how President KWI tried to get support from these populist groups while Romania was part of the EU. This study uses a mix of Heider's attribution theory and Dan Nimmo's political communication ideas. The study guesses that even though some groups were against the EU or Euroscepticism, by using political communication strategies, President KWI could deal with these issues and keep Romania in the EU. The results showed that populist groups kept pushing for anti-EU, anti-elites, anti-establishment, and anti-pluralism ideas to win public support. The public had mixed feelings about these campaigns. By the end of KWI's time in office, more people started to support populists because they lost trust in the government, which wasn't strong enough in fighting corruption. Still, by using political communication strategies, Romania stayed in the EU and joined the Schengen Area on January 1, 2025. Also, President KWI was able to serve two terms.
