Abstract

Abstract

These community service activities were conduted at Tambak Rejo Village, Padang Jaya District, North Bengkulu Regency, towards local residences in cooperation with students from Chemistry Education Department, University of Bengkulu, April 27th, 2025. Local residences were very enthusiast with the activities which are socialization of the importance of sustanability act; cleaning activity of waste at local area, and tree restoration as an act of afforestation. These activities are aim to provide green lanscape that can prevent erotion by maintaning the balance between water system and soil strangulation. These act followed the principles of green chemistry concept toward sustainability. Tambak Rejo Village is an areal with vast open field and quite suceptible to draught in dry season. This afforestation project aim to prevent draught, as well as provide green, and beautiful landscape for local residence. These community service activities were done in several steps which are socialization towards local residence, the act of cleaning of local waste, and planting several trees in prepared land. Both local residences and students from Chemistry Education Study Program involved directly in all activities. Keywords: green chemistry, afforestation, sustainability

Abstract

This research aims to identify the physicochemical characteristics and pathogenic antibacterial activity of papaya leaf extract liquid soap (Carica Papaya L.). The sample used was papaya leaf extract whose mass was varied. The data acquisition process was obtained from the results of physicochemical testing of liquid soap formulations and from the results of antibacterial activity tests. This research began by extracting the sample using maceration technique. The extract was then formulated to be the liquid soap formulation 1, 2 and 3 with various masses i.e. three, four and five grams of extract, respectively. The physicochemical test showed that the organoleptic test, pH test, foam height test, specific gravity test, water content test and free alkali test met the SNI physical quality standards for liquid soap and the antibacterial activity test carried out on S. aureus and E. coli bacteria was obtained for S. aureus bacteria. formulations 1, 2 and 3 produce resistance of 2.06 mm, 2.21 mm and 2.46 mm respectively. Meanwhile, for E. coli bacteria, the inhibitory power produced by formulations 1, 2 and 3 was 2.84 mm, 3.41 mm and 3.71 mm, respectively. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the liquid soap formulation from papaya leaf extract meets the physical standards for liquid soap quality according to SNI and has antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Students’ understanding of synthetic polymer topics was still low due to the abstract nature of the material and the lack of supporting teaching resources. This study focused on developing a project-integrated chemistry e-module on the topic, aiming to produce a valid, practical, and effective learning resource. The development model used was ADDIE, which consisted of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The validation results showed that the e-module was very feasible in terms of content with a score of 94% and feasible in terms of media with a score of 73%. After revision, the media score increased to 96% with a very feasible category. A small-scale trial involving 12 students of grade XII in the 2024/2025 academic year obtained very positive responses with an average of 94%. The implementation with 27 students of grade XI IPA 1 MAN 1 Bengkulu through pre-test and post-test resulted in an N-Gain score of 0.74 (high category). These findings proved that the developed e-module was effective in improving students’ understanding and was feasible to be used as an alternative chemistry learning resource on synthetic polymers.

Abstract

Background: In Tik Kuto Village, organic household and agricultural waste remains largely underutilized, contributing to environmental pollution and potentially reducing community health status and productivity. The lack of practical, low-cost, and easily applied waste management technologies at the household and farm levels highlights the need for community-based interventions that support sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.Aims: The specific objective is to enhance community capacity to process organic waste into Local Microorganisms (MOL), Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC), and ecoenzymes within a Zero-Waste Management framework. Methods: The program was implemented through participatory outreach and counseling, demonstrations, technical training, and mentoring activities involving farmer groups and housewives. Educational support materials included posters and booklets. The resulting MOL served as an activator for POC, which was fermented for four weeks. Ecoenzymes were produced from fruit peels, brown sugar, and water in a 3:1:10 ratio and fermented for a minimum of three months. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-tests, post-tests, and direct observation of participant engagement. Results: A total of 18 farmers participated in the program. Although most participants were middle-aged and experienced farmers, their baseline knowledge of organic waste processing was low. Post-training evaluation showed substantial improvements, with understanding of waste sorting and processing reaching 94–100%. Knowledge related to materials, production steps, application dosage, and benefits of MOL, POC, and ecoenzymes increased from 6–28% to 83–94%.Conclusion: The program successfully improved participants’ knowledge and behavioral intentions regarding organic waste management at the household and community levels.
