Abstract

Accurate simulation of heat transfer is essential in many engineering applications. This study investigates heat transfer on thin plates by solving two-dimensional heat equations using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The accuracy of the formulation is evaluated by comparing SPH results with analytical solutions for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, where small nRMSE values confirm good agreement. The method is then applied to plates with internal heat sources of different but equal-area geometries, showing that the star-shaped source yields the fastest heat transfer. These findings highlight the flexibility of SPH for modeling heat equations under complex geometries and boundary conditions.

Abstract

Abstract

The sambar deer (Cervus unicolor) is a wild animal whose population continues to decline due to hunting and habitat degradation, making captive breeding an ex situ conservation effort. This study aims to analyze differences in daily activity of sambar deer during the day and night. Observations were conducted at the Deer Research and Development Demonstration Plot of the BP2LHK Aek Nauli, Simalungun Regency, using the Focal Animal Sampling (FAS) method. Observed activities included walking, resting, sleeping, eating, socializing, grooming, defecation, urination, nursing, and suckling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that walking and feeding activities were more prevalent during the day, while resting and sleeping activities increased at night. The Wilcoxon test showed that only urination activity was significantly different between day and night (p < 0.05), while other activities were not significantly different (p > 0.05). These results indicate that captive sambar deer retain their natural behavioral patterns and are able to adapt to environmental conditions. This can serve as a basis for captive management and support ex-situ conservation.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low conjunction writing skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Sumurwelut III/440 Surabaya in the Indonesian Language subject. Based on initial observations, most students had not been able to use conjunctions correctly in sentences and paragraphs. This study aims to improve conjunction writing skills through the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model based on the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach using storyboard media. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 29 fourth-grade students divided into three ability levels based on the TaRL approach, with a Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) of 75. The results show an improvement in conjunction writing skills. In Cycle I, the class average score reached 67.68 with a classical completion percentage of 42.9% (12 out of 28 students). In Cycle II, the class average score increased to 75.57 with a classical completion percentage of 67.9% (19 out of 28 students). This improvement occurred along with better implementation of the PjBL model with storyboard media that was more structured and contextual according to students' ability levels.
