Abstract

In the current independent learning curriculum of the independent campus, learning in Higher Education has shifted to being based on internet digitalization. SPADA, which will be developed, is an application owned by Wijaya Putra University, which is located at spada.uwp.ac.id. The combination of project-based learning that implements hybrid learning is learning simultaneously online and offline. The problem formulation is formulated: How is the feasibility of developing a project-based hybrid learning model based on the SPADA application for student learning? How can the project-based hybrid learning model based on the SPADA application improve students' self-regulated learning abilities? This study aims To produce the feasibility of developing a project-based hybrid learning model based on the SPADA application for student learning and To explain the project-based hybrid learning model based on SPADA in improving students' self-regulated learning abilities. The research method uses an experimental approach with pretest and posttest. Based on the research results, the project-based hybrid learning model based on the SPADA application to improve the self-regulated learning abilities of Wijaya Putra University students is very effective. This is because the self-regulated learning ability for the goal-setting indicator has increased by 0.98, the environment setting indicator has increased by 0.90, the task strategy indicator has increased by 1.06, the time management indicator has increased by 1.32, the help-seeking indicator has increased by 1.81, and for the self-evaluation indicator has increased by 1.14. The implications of the findings in this study reinforce that knowledge and skills in self-regulated learning abilities are very much needed to support educational models and processes that are increasingly disrupting traditional methods by knowing the selection of digital learning resources and can encourage efforts to improve abilities in self-regulated learning abilities.

Abstract

Numerous studies have been conducted to explore the phenomenon of code-switching. The results of this study carry significant implications for both lecturers and students, particularly in the context of ESP learning at the university level. This research aimed to delve into not only lecturers' perceptions but also students' attitudes and perceptions regarding the use of code-switching in EFL classrooms. Employing mixed methods design, specifically an explanatory sequential design, this study involved one lecturer and sixty students as participants. Data collection instruments included a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that the lecturers' code-switching is connected to the content being taught and the tasks being performed. They employ a system of secret codes as necessary. They employ code-switching to enhance communication and learning. Additionally, students had positive attitudes and perceptions toward the use of code-switching in ESP classrooms, as evidenced by the results of the students' questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The majority of the pupils felt that their instructor's frequent use of code-switching benefited their education. They found that code-switching was crucial in the ESP classroom since it facilitated both teaching and learning. Moreover, it was acknowledged that code-switching can be used to improve their English skills. In addition, they reasoned that code-switching should be permitted in ESP classrooms so that lecturers can better assist their students and keep the lines of communication open between themselves and their pupils.

Abstract

As an educator, a teacher ideally should have a strong understanding of the concept of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in learning and assessment. This understanding is crucial to support the implementation of teaching and assessment in the era of Society 5.0. Higher Order Thinking Skills, commonly known as HOTS, refer to an individual's ability to think in a more complex manner. Indicators used in HOTS questions include three aspects within the context of Bloom's taxonomy, namely analysis (C4), evaluation (C5), and creation (C6). This community service activity aims to illustrate the steps and analyze the results of supervision in enhancing the competence of teachers in developing HOTS-based learning assessments at SMA Wijaya Putra in Surabaya. The supervision method employed is participative, utilizing direct guidance and Focus Group Discussions. The results of this supervision show an improvement in teachers' ability to create assessments of learning. This improvement is evident in the initial observation of learning assessments, where only ability increased to 75%, indicating a substantial improvement from the initial condition. In conclusion, this community service activity successfully enhanced the skills of teachers in developing HOTS-based assessments.".

Abstract

This study investigates the types and prevalence of illocutionary speech acts in the film To Catch a Killer (2023), a psychological crime thriller rich in pragmatic nuances. The research aims to identify the categories of illocutionary speech acts used by characters and determine which type dominates the film’s dialogue. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the researcher analyzed spoken utterances throughout the movie using Searle’s classification of illocutionary acts. Data were collected through systematic observation, transcription, and categorization of speech acts present in key scenes. The analysis reveals five types of illocutionary acts: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative, with assertive acts being the most dominant (43%). These acts are crucial in conveying character intentions and advancing narrative tension. The findings contribute to pragmatic and linguistic studies by showcasing how illocutionary force is embedded within cinematic dialogue and how it reflects the psychological depth of storytelling. This study highlights the pedagogical value of film in teaching speech act theory and encourages further exploration of language in media contexts
