Abstract

Mitra pengabdian kepada masyarakat merupakan perguruan tinggi swasta STKIP Bina Insan Mandiri. Permasalahan Mitra, yaitu: 1)Kurangnya bahan materi perkuliahan dosen yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa; 2)Media pembelajaran yang dipergunakan dosen belum interaktif; 3)Belum siapnya dosen dalam proses perkuliahan tatap muka terbatas; 4)Perlunya pemahaman mahasiswa tentang literasi digital. Metode menyelesaikan masalah, yaitu: 1)Rapat awal tim pelaksana dan koordinasi dengan mitra; 2)Menyusun program dan jadwal kegiatan; 3)Pengadaan dan instalasi aplikasi Virtual Class; 4)Pengembangan literasi digital; 5)Pelatihan dan pendampingan. Pelaksanaan program, yaitu: 1)Pengadaan dan instalasi aplikasi Virtual Class; 2)Pengembangan pembuatan materi ajar sebagai literasi digital; 3)Pelatihan dan pendampingan pembuatan materi ajar digital; 4)Pelatihan dan pendampingan penggunaan aplikasi Virtual Class; 5)Pelatihan dan pendampingan pelaksanaan literasi digital. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan setiap selesai pelatihan dan pendampingan serta keberlanjutan dilakukan minimal 2 bulan sekali dalam 1 tahun setelah program selesai dilakukan. Diharapkan Mahasiswa STKIP Bina Insan Mandiri dapat terbiasa menjalankan kegiatan literasi digital dalam perkuliahan.

Abstract

Literasi digital dapat digunakan untuk menciptakan pembelajaran yang komprehensif dan inovatif. Saat ini guru perlu mengembangkan kreativitas belajar dengan bantuan teknologi digital. Berlandaskan pada latar belakang tersebut, dapat ditinjau dari beberapa latarbelakang masalah sebagai berikut: 1)Bagaimana tingkat literasi digital siswa SMAS Wijaya Putra Surabaya berdasarkan aspek Internet Searching pada aplikasiVirtual Class?; 2) Bagaimana tingkatliterasi digital siswa SMAS Wijaya Putra Surabaya berdasarkan aspek Hypertextual Navigation pada aplikasi Virtual Class?; 3) Bagaimana tingkat literasi digital siswa SMAS Wijaya Putra Surabaya berdasarkan aspek Content Evaluation pada aplikasi Virtual Class?; 4) Bagaimana tingkat literasi digital siswa SMAS Wijaya Putra Surabaya berdasarkan aspek Knowledge Assembly pada aplikasi Virtual Class?. Dari permasalahan yang sudah di kemukakan di atas, penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat kompetensi literasi digital pada aplikasi Virtual Class terhadap siswa SMAS Wijaya Putra Surabaya yang ditinjau berdasarkan aspek Internet Searching, Hypertextual Navigation, Content Evaluation,dan Knowledge Assembly. Literasi digital adalah kemampuan untuk memperoleh, mengetahui, dan menggunakan sumber dari berbagai sumber dalam bentuk digital. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif atau jenis penelitian ini sering disebut penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif. Karena metode ini didasarkan pada data penelitian berupa angka-angka dan statistik yang digunakan dalam analisis, maka metode ini bersifat kuantitatif.. Berlandaskandari hasil analisis dapat ditarikkesimpulan bahwa literasi digital siswa masih berada pada tingkatan yang memadai.

Abstract

Discord serves as a widely used social media platform among millennials around the globe and it enables seamless communication during online gaming sessions. A few studies on the use of Discord still are limited. Therefore, this research paper seeks to propose the utilization of discord as a means in a listening class. The article offers empirical evidence supporting the considerable in what way discord will be affordable in listening class. Initially, the paper reviews previous studies that have explored the most recent social media used by teenagers that is Discord, Telegram, and TikTok. Then, it gives some practical ways how to use Discord in listening class. Subsequently, this paper elucidates the ways in which Discord can boaster learners effectively to comfortable and enjoyable listening comprehending exercises for university students. Finally, a summary is provided at the conclusion of the paper, offering an overview of its main points.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the students’ perceptions in using the application of the English Dictionary "Kamusku" as a media in reading online English news can make them feel more easier in learning vocabulary and understand the English online news well. This study uses a qualitative study with open ended questionnaires, The instruments used in this method are questionnaires question. This research was conducted on first semester students of English Literature at Wijaya Putra University. The results of the study obtained that the application of the English Dictionary "Kamusku" as a media in reading Online English News had a positive and significant effect on increasing students' English vocabulary to comprehend in reading the online English News.

Abstract

The call for the implementation of Outcome-Based in Indonesia has been emphasized since 2019, highlighting the necessity for adjustments in the higher education context. In English academic writing classes, incorporating OBE principles presents challenges, particularly in the realm of assessment. The assessment process must effectively evaluate all abilities, skills, and knowledge specified in the learning outcomes. These challenges are further amplified by the large class sizes, resulting in suboptimal assessments of students' writing abilities. Therefore, Project Based assessment that aligns with OBE principles and assists academic writing lecturers in addressing the complexities of providing quality assessments to a multitude of students in Indonesia is of utmost significance. The Proposal Writing Course Universitas Wijaya Putra, consisting of twelve students from the English Department, utilizes the OBE-Project-based assessment method. This study aims to describe the students’ composition as the learning output based on the writing rubrics assessment. The analysis of the student’s proposals revealed a notable enhancement in various aspects, including the context, literature review, research design, and data. It is found that Project Based assessment that aligns with OBE principles significantly enhances their research writing skills and improves their academic achievement throughout the research process. analysis. The incorporation of project-based assessment in OBE in the courses holds great potential for elevating the academic performance of graduate school students engaging in proposal writing courses.

Abstract

This study utilizes Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic framework, concentrating on the interpretation of signifiers associated with plastic surgery. A particular emphasis is placed on the "Male Rhinoplasty" page as a case study, where icons, indexes, and symbols embedded in both images and texts are scrutinized across different sections of the website. Employing a qualitative approach, the study involves meticulous analysis of ten images extracted from the "Male Plastic Surgery" page. Among these, the study identifies 13 icons, 12 indexes, and 18 symbols, all of which serve as visual cues to not only enrich user experience but also evoke emotional responses that engage potential patients. The implications of these findings underscore the comprehensive communication strategy employed by ID Hospital's website. By adeptly incorporating Peirce's semiotic principles, the website constructs a multifaceted narrative concerning male rhinoplasty that is both visually captivating and emotionally resonant. This research not only sheds light on the semiotic complexities within the realm of plastic surgery communication but also provides insights into how websites can effectively employ visual and textual elements to convey intricate messages.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze hierarchy of needs using Abraham Maslow's theories on Korean Drama Itaewon Class (2020). This research is motivated by the existence of aspects of human needs which are reflected through the characters in the drama. This study aims to describe the process of fulfilling the levels of the hierarchy of needs carried out by main characters there are Park Saeroy and Jo Yiseo in Drama Itaewon Class. In conducting this research, the method is used descriptive qualitative method. The formulation of the problem in this study is what is the hierarchy of needs portrayed by the main characters in the drama Itaewon Class. This study uses the motivational theory of the hierarchy of needs by Abraham Maslow. Based on the study and discussion of research results, it can be concluded in the following paragraphs. The hierarchy of needs in the two main characters are (1) physiological needs, (2) safety and security needs, (3) belonging and love needs, (4) self-esteem needs, and (5) need for realization or self-actualization. Of the five levels of needs that exist, the two main characters have succeeded in fulfilling their needs up to the level of self-actualization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze signs using Roland Barthes' semiotics, and analyze the denotative and connotative meanings of Body Shaming signs contained in the “True Beauty” series.This study describes: (1) types of body shaming signs that appear in the True Beauty series. (2) the denotative and connotative meanings of each sign contained in the True Beauty series. The data source for this research is a popular Korean series directed by Kim Sang-hyub, and Yaongyi as the author of a webtoon entitled True Beauty which was adapted into a drama. The research is focused on the semiotics of body shaming contained in the “True beauty” series. Data analysis were: (1) Describing the denotation and connotation of body shaming for the main character in the “True Beauty” Series. (2) Draw the conclusion. The results of the study revealed that there are scenes of verbal and non-verbal body shaming/bullying in the Korean Drama “True Beauty” series. Verbal bullying is a form of humiliation that can be seen or heard by the senses marked by words and actions which in this drama are represented by cursing, laughing, shouting (Ugly Calling, Dumpling, Red face, Slapping, Dousing with dirty water, Throwing things), Meanwhile Non-verbal bullying is a form of humiliation that cannot be directly felt by the senses in this drama represented by a form of action (gaze, spreading embarrassing videos, crossing out facial posters).

Abstract

This research aims to analyze hero archetype of main character in A Study in Scarlet. This study explains the hero archetype of main character in A Study in Scarlet. The researcher uses a qualitative approach as a research method. The data source is A Study in Scarlet. Data collection by: (1) read comprehensively the novel (2) Collect and retrieve data from the novel relating to the research problem (3) Fragmenting dialogue in the novel according to the research problem (4) selecting the dialog that are the hero archetype. Meanwhile, the data analysis procedures are: (1) Selecting dialogs in the novel A study in Scarlet, (2) classifying the hero archetype based on objects of Carol Pearson's theory, such as the innocent, the warrior, the caregiver. (4) drawing a conclusion. This study shows that the appearance of the hero archetype in the main character there found A Study in Scarlet. The research delves into the profound exploration of the hero archetype as exemplified by the main character in Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet." Adopting a qualitative research methodology, this study meticulously dissects the character's traits and actions, primarily drawing from the narrative structure and dialogues within the novel. The principal data source for this research is the text of "A Study in Scarlet." The data collection process was methodical and comprehensive. It began with an in-depth reading of the novel, followed by the extraction of relevant data that directly addresses the research problem. Subsequently, dialogues were fragmented, and a careful selection process was employed to pinpoint those that truly represent the hero archetype. For the analysis, the study employed a systematic procedure. Dialogues from "A Study in Scarlet" were selected and classified based on Carol Pearson's renowned theory of hero archetypes. Pearson's theory delineates various hero archetypes, such as the innocent, the warrior, and the caregiver, each representing different facets of heroism. The findings from this research reveal that the main character in "A Study in Scarlet" resonates with several of these archetypes, showcasing the multidimensionality of his character. In conclusion, this research not only highlights the literary depth and intricacy of Doyle's work but also sheds light on the timeless and universal nature of hero archetypes in classic literature.

Abstract

This paper illustrates that the impacts of different factors on second language (L2) acquisition exhibit variability. Emphasizing the significance of individual diversity in second language acquisition (SLA) is crucial. Factors such as learners' motivation, attitude, age, IQ, aptitude, learning style, and personality, among others, play a role in shaping their approaches to, and potentially their success or failure in, acquiring a second language. initiates with an examination of the factors impacting second language acquisition. Thus, motivation, attitude, age, IQ, aptitude, cognitive style, and personality are acknowledged as contributing elements in second language acquisition. Certain factors are regarded as having greater influence, while others are seen as having equal significance. It is posited that typically, any child raised under normal conditions will proficiently acquire their first language.
