Abstract

Nepenthes is one of the few carnivorous plants which popular as ornamental plant. Sumatran has the richest Nepenthes flora after Borneo, with 29 species. This research was done in Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve at May until June 2013. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of Nepenthes and to know the dominance type of Nepenthes in Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve. Research location determined by using cluster method at three different location, there is 1200 m a.s.l., 1400 m a.s.l., and 1500 m a.s.l. Area size of observation was 0.6 Ha with 15 plots. The result of this research showed that 6 species Nepenthes founded in this area, the species are N. bongso, N. ovata, N. reinwardtiana, N. rhombicaulis, N. sumatrana, and N. tobaica. N. reinwardtiana was the largest species that discover with 152 clumps/0.6 Ha (32.55%) and the lowest species was N. sumatrana with 22 clumps/0.6 Ha (4.71%). The highest index diversity of the Nepenthes spp. was discovered in location III (1500 m a.s.l.) with 1.59.Keywords : Dolok Sibual Buali Nature Reserve, Kebun Bonsai, Biodiversity, Nepenthes

Abstract

Research on “Analysis of Economic Loss and Society Knowledge of Orangutan Sumatra (Pongo abelii) conflict” was conducted in March 2013 until April 2013 at Kuta Gajah and Besilam Village by interview inhabitants whose land damage by the orangutan. The purpose of this research are to calculate the total economic loss caused by the conflicts, to know the cost of community, NGO and government have been spend for mitigating conflict between human and Orangutan Sumatera (P. abelii) and also to analyze community knowledge about the reasons of the conflicts. The result of this research showed that total economic loss at Kuta Gajah is higher than Besilam. Total economics loss occured to Kuta Gajah villager was Rp 2.120.952,00, that clasified to high, while occured to Besilam villager was Rp 340.,00 and clasified to low.  In conflict mitigation, governments cooperated with OIC and by evacuating into Gunung Leuser National Park Area.Keywords: Orangutan Sumatra, Orangutan conflict, Economic Loss, Mitigation Cost, Gunung Leuser National Park.

Abstract

Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve (CADS) is a conservation area in North Sumatra, covers ± 5.000 hectare area, altitude 1.200 – 1.700 m asl. Terrestrial orchids are orchids that grow in the ground in soil and the nutrition is obtained from the soil. Inventory of terrestrial orchids performed to study the diversity and altitudinal distribution of terrestrial orchids species in CADS. Study was performed in April - July 2013. Locations are determined by purposive sampling study with noticed the environmental factors, the vegetation observation used line plot transect which divided into 4 locations with different altitude intervals of every 100 m (1.200 m asl – 1.600 m asl), measuring plot 20 m x 100 m, divided to 5 subplots measuring 20 m x 20 m, so the plot number is 20.  The result found 29 species of terrestrial orchids, divided of 17 genus with the individuals amount as much 816/0,8 hectare. Plocoglottis sp. 1 is the most widely distribution of species, found from 1.200 m asl to 1.500 m asl.Keywords: terrestrial orchids, Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve, inventory, Kebun Bonsai.

Abstract

Wildlife in the world is pressured increasly as same as by human life. One of the goverment’s efforts to maintain the presence of wildlife is through conservation activities can be combined with spatial planning activities. It is called Open Green Space. One of open green space located in the city field is conservation of in-situ at the housing of cemara asri and conservation of ex-situ at the wildlife breeding university of north sumatra. It also function as means of recreation, urban physical. Social cultural, ecological, and economic value. Therefore, this study aims to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the visitors and the economic value of wildlife conservation areas and the influence of travel cost and cost of willingness to pay for level of visits per 1000 population. Result of the data analysis shows that the social-economic  characteristics based on gender, education level, income level, age group, and address are varied. While the economic value derived based on the travel cost is not significant and cost of willingness to pay is significant  to the level of visits per 1000 population. Abstract

Carbondioxide (CO2) produced by the fumes and industrial activities can harm humans if there are no trees or urban forests that can absorb CO2 and emissions resulting from human activities. Therefore, an effort to reduce air pollutants such as CO2 gas in urban areas, especially the city of Medan is a way to build a green open space in the form of urban forests. This study aimed to calculate the amount of CO2 emitted and the amount of O2 required in Medan based emissions from motor vehicles, human respiratory and industry and widely suspected optimal urban forest based on the function of absorbing CO2 and producing O2. Estimation results indicate that the total CO2 emissions in the city of Medan in 2014 amounted to 2,659,091.01 tons while demand for O2 in Medan in 2014 amounted to 2,430,843.07 tons . So the ability of the urban forest in the form of urban parks and green line in absorbing CO2 14683.84 tons and the capability of producing O2 amounted to 5551.2 tons .Keywords : CO2 emissions , O2 Demand, CO2 Absorbance, O2 Production, city park, green belt.

Abstract

Determination of the Strategy and Action Plan (SRAK) Orangutan Indonesian Conservation 2007-2017 is a useful framework that combines the handling of priority conservation , integration , and involvement all parties and stakeholders in Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) conservation). The aims of this study is to evaluate the implementation and achievement of SRAK from 2008 to 2014 for Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii). This research was conducted by using a Likert scale method to evaluate the achievement of the program and the Force Field Analysis method to determine the ‘driving force’ and the ‘restraining force’ of the action program. The results showed that SRAK for Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) 2008-2014 achieved 65 % of program, but not for all  indicators. Abstract

Restoration in the resort area of Sei Betung covers 9.734 hectares. Various attempts were conducted to rehabilitate to the area, such as replanting or utilizing spreading seed agent of bird. The presence of a certain bird species, generally followthe preference on it’s habitat. This research observed  what kind of bird perched on artificial perch and  weather conditions in the area. The methodology used Ponctuels d'Abondance / Index Point of Abundant (IPA-Count), thas did not require extensive sampling place or a certain squares wide. This method consisted a series of points that spreaded randomly or in straight line. The results obtained the highest diversity of trees is 1,20, the highest bird abundance merbah cerucuk 31,67. Birds conducted their activities in  temperature range between 26,50C - 310C and humidity around 70% and precipitation of 74,857mm. Abstract

Taman Rekreasi Gotong Royong Indah is a destination located in Pancurbatu. One of the benefits that can be gained is the development of natural areas for ecotourism. This study aimed to (1) analyze the potential attraction of Taman Rekreasi Gotong Royong Indah (2) to analyze the problems of nature tourism development strategy in the region. This research used Analysis SWOT. The result showed that the attraction of Taman Rekreasi Gotong Royong Indah has  potential to be developed on the level of 76,04% and the feasibility of the SWOT analysis in quadran I, that means it has strength and opportunities that can be developed as tourist attraction. Abstract

Green belt is one of the green open spaces are quite effective in absorbing carbon emissions and pollutant gases around the highway in the city.  Plants were grown in a green belt has the ability to absorb carbon emissions. Because it is necessary to do the calculation of the carbon stored in various green belt in the secondary arterial roads Medan city. The purpose of this research was to calculate the potential carbon is stored in various green belt in the secondary arterial roads Medan. Sampling lines and plant samples was conducted using purposive sampling and census methods. Calculation data using allometric models. The results showed that there are 8 types of plants on the green belt of research of the kind that most dominating is Palem Raja (Oreodoxa regia). The highest value of carbon stored by type of plant found in plant angsana (Pterocarpus indicus) with a total value of carbon stored in the 8 green belt, namely 525,337 Ton/Ha, or an average of 65,67 Ton/Ha. The highest value of carbon stored by the green belt of research there is on the path to Balai Kota street, district of Medan Barat with a value of 274,985 Ton/Ha. Abstract

Nepenthes is a carnivorous plant that has a unique bag, each end of the leaf. This unique bag can trap insects or other small animals, as in the pocket there is nectar glands (glands honey) that can trap insects especially with the sweet taste. This research was conducted in the Nature Reserve Dolok Sibual Buali from August until October 2014. This study aims to determine the diversity of plant species in the area of ​​Nepenthes Nature Reserve Dolok Sibual-Buali, North Sumatra and Knowing dominance Nepenthes plants are found in the Nature Reserve Dolok Sibual -Buali, North Sumatra. This survey using the cluster method to determine the area of ​​the sample is based on consideration of the existence of Nepenthes (searching the sample). From the research results can be seen, there are 5 types of Nepenthes in Cagar Alam Dolok Sibual Buali, namely N. Bongso  N. ovata, N. reinwardtiana, rhombicaulis N., and N. tobaica. Total clumps most is N. reinwardtiana with 169 clumps and clumps least number is N. ovata with 54 clumps. Keywords: Cagar Alam Dolok Sibual Buali, species diversity, Nepenthes.
