Abstract

Setiawati T, Susilawati A, Mutaqin AZ, Nurzaman M, Annisa, Partasasmita R, Karyono. 2018. Morpho-anatomy and physiology of red galangal (Alpinia purpurata) and white galangal (Alpinia galanga) under some salinity stress levels. Biodiversitas 19: 809-815. Soil salinity is one of the most urgent issues in agriculture as it can reduce plant growth and productivity. Efforts on development of galangal plant on saline soils are still encountering some obstacles such as lack of information on the galangal types that are tolerant to saline condition. The purpose of this study was to determine morpho-anatomical and physiological responses of red galangal (Alpinia purpurata (Vieill.) K. Schum.) and white galangal (Alpinia galanga (L.) Willd.) to salinity stress treatments. This research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) assigned in a factorial treatment design of two factors, i.e., (i) species of galangal consisting of two levels i.e., red galangal and white galangal, (ii) NaCl concentration consisting of five levels, i.e., 0‰, 3‰, 6‰, 9‰ and 12‰. Each treatment was three replicates. Observation was done on the growth parameters when the plants showed wilting symptoms. The observed data were subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by a post hoc Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at ? 5% when the treatment effect was significant. The results showed that salinity stress treatment significantly reduced the plant height increase, leaf area, dry weight, stomata density, chlorophyll content and increased thickness of root epidermis, and proline content in both species of galangal. Red galangal was more tolerant than white galangal.

Abstract

Abstract. Safitri R, Kusumawardhani PD, Annisa, Partasasmita R, Asharina S, Maskoen AM. 2020. Characterization and identification of three thermophilic Bacillus strains isolated from Domas Crater, Mt. Tangkuban Perahu, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 3444-3453. A community of thermophiles within the hot spring of Domas Crater, Mount Tangkuban West Java, has been cultivated and identified based on the 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence. The hot spring has a temperature of 45°C-76 °C, pH 1-2, the isolate has been cultivated in Thermus medium at a temperature of 70 and pH 6. The three isolated strains were L61A, TS61A, and D41A identified based on the 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence refer to the GenBank database and all of them belong to the Phylum Firmicutes, which are clustered within the taxonomic groups of Bacillus, the Bacillus, and Geobacillus genera. Nucleotide sequences were compared for homology with BLASTN search at the NCBI Web-site revealed that strains (L61A) had 99.93% similarity with Geobacillus uzenensis. TS61A strain has a 99.24% similarity with Bacillus wiedmannii. Whereas D41A has 99.79% similarity with Bacillus paramycoides. The characterization also includes the phenotypic and biochemical of strains. The bacillus genera were known as a source of thermostable enzymes, plant growth-promoting, probiotics, decomposers of various polysaccharide materials, and bioremediation.

Abstract

Abstract. Irawan B, Safira KM, Annisa, Rohmatullayaly EN, Ihsan M, Suryana, Iskandar J, Iskandar BS. 2024. Ethnobotany of cassava (Manihot esculenta) in the traditional peri-urban Sundanese community of Cireundeu Hamlet, Cimahi City, West Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 116-128. The community of Cireundeu Hamlet is one of the Sundanese traditional communities that still maintain wisdom in processing and using cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) as staple food (rasi) and foodstuff. Many landraces of cassava have the potential to develop into superior varieties, and research is necessary to make cassava a year-round food. The aim of this study is to elucidate the ethnobotanical knowledge of the rural Sundanese community on cassava, namely on various landraces and their folk classification, traditional farming management, and uses. Based on a case study of the traditional people in a peri-urban area of Cireundeu Hamlet, Cimahi City, West Java, Indonesia, mixed methods, i.e., qualitative and quantitative, were used in this study. There are seven landraces of cassava used as foodstuff that are traditionally managed by the Cireundeu people, including sampeu apuy, sampeu bodas, sampeu gambir lembang, sampeu garnawis, sampeu hideung, sampeu karihkil, and sampeu mentega. Based on Relative Frequency of Citation, the highest values are sampeu bodas (0.96) and sampeu garnawis (0.93). These cassava landraces can be distinguished by the Cireundeu people based on characteristics of petiole color, stem color, apical leaf color, leaf color, and taste of the tubers. Based on folk taxonomy, cassava is classified into five levels: level 0 (unique beginner), known as tutuwuhan and pepelakan (plants); level 1 (Life form) known as beubeutian (tubers); level 2 (generic) known as sampeu karet and sampeu, a genus from Manihot esculenta; level 3 (species) known as sampeu (sweet-cassava, Manihot esculenta Crantz) and sampeu karet (bitter cassava, M. carthagenensis subsp. glaziovii); and level 4 (specific). The processing and use of cassava are carried out both in traditional and modern ways, including using apical leaves as lalab or boiled vegetables and using the roots as the basic ingredients for making rasi (sangueun), tapioca flour, and snacks.

Abstract

Students' mathematical comprehension ability is an important ability to be mastered well by students, the factor that influences the ability of mathematical comprehension is mathematical anxiety. Based on that, this study aims to determine the relationship between mathematical anxiety and mathematical comprehension ability. The research instrument is in the form of test and non-test questions. The test questions are in the form of a mathematical comprehension ability test consisting of 5 fill-in questions. The non-test questions are in the form of a mathematical anxiety questionnaire consisting of 14 points filled in by students who answer the mathematical comprehension questions. This study uses a quasi-experimental quantitative method with a Pretest-Posttest control-group design. Data analysis used by researchers, namely using correlation test analysis obtained from the results of the relationship between mathematical anxiety and the ability to understand mathematical concepts. This study was conducted on 14 5th grade students. The results showed that for the mathematical anxiety variable, a correlation value of 0.098 was obtained, greater than α = 0.05, so there was no relationship between the level of mathematical anxiety and the ability to understand mathematical concepts.
