Abstract

Peer influence is often a factor that influences students' decisions, including in the issue of absenteeism, which is a major challenge in the Junior High School (SMP) environment. This study aims to examine how peer influence influences student absenteeism in Junior High Schools in Sangir District, South Solok Regency. In this study, a quantitative research design was used using a simple linear regression analysis to see the effect of variable X on variable Y. The subjects in this study were 41 students of grades VII and VIII of Junior High Schools (SMP) in Sangir District, South Solok Regency. The sampling technique was carried out using the Cluster Sampling Technique. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence (Ha) between peer influence on student absenteeism in Junior High Schools (SMP), with a significance value of 0.044 <0.05, indicating that (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that 1) Peer influence of students is in the high category with a percentage of 85.37%, 2) Student absence is in the low category with a percentage of 80.49%, 3) The results of the analysis show that there is a significant influence (Ha) between peer influence on student absence. By finding the results of the significant influence of the circle of friends on the level of absence, this study contributes by providing a strong data foundation for schools to design strategic guidance and counseling programs, utilizing peer influence as a force to encourage optimal   attendance

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problems of students who show excessive distrust, feelings of threat, feeling worthless, incapable of controlling emotions, and fear of getting out of their comfort zone. This condition is closely related to the aspects of peer social support and mental health. The purpose of this study is to describe: (1) the social support profile of peers at SMP Negeri 12 Padang, (2) the mental health profile of students, and (3) the influence of peer social support on the mental health of students. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method with a correlational design. The research population was 139 students in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 12 Padang, with a sample of 59 people selected through simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument was in the form of a Likert scale questionnaire, while the data analysis used descriptive analysis, analysis prerequisite tests (normality, homogeneity, and linearity), and simple regression analysis. The results showed that (1) peer social support was in the good and good category, (2) students' mental health was in the good category, and (3) peer social support had an effect on mental health by 2.39% with the weak category. This study recommends that BK teachers strengthen counseling services that are not only peer-based, but also involve families, school environments, and students' personal aspects, including peer counseling training to be more targeted. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan peserta didik yang menunjukkan ketidakpercayaan berlebihan, perasaan terancam, merasa tidak berharga, kurang mampu mengendalikan emosi, serta ketakutan keluar dari zona nyaman. Kondisi tersebut erat kaitannya dengan aspek dukungan sosial teman sebaya dan kesehatan mental. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) profil dukungan sosial teman sebaya di SMP Negeri 12 Padang, (2) profil kesehatan mental peserta didik, serta (3) pengaruh dukungan sosial teman sebaya terhadap kesehatan mental peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif dengan desain korelasional. Populasi penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 12 Padang sebanyak 139 orang, dengan sampel 59 orang yang dipilih melalui teknik simple random sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket skala Likert, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif, uji prasyarat analisis (normalitas, homogenitas, dan linearitas), serta analisis regresi sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) dukungan sosial teman sebaya berada pada kategori baik dan cukup baik, (2) kesehatan mental peserta didik berada pada kategori cukup baik, dan (3) dukungan sosial teman sebaya berpengaruh terhadap kesehatan mental sebesar 2,39% dengan kategori lemah. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar guru BK menguatkan layanan konseling yang tidak hanya berbasis teman sebaya, tetapi juga melibatkan keluarga, lingkungan sekolah, serta aspek pribadi siswa, termasuk pelatihan peer counseling agar lebih terarah.
