Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the proportional relationship between Islam and Javanese culture through the analysis of the Rewanda offering tradition in Semarang. Utilizing Emile Durkheim's theory of the sacred and the profane as the analytical framework, this research identifies and classifies the elements of the Rewanda tradition into two main categories: sacred and profane. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method through observation, interviews, and literature review. Firstly, the research reveals the sacred elements within the Rewanda offering tradition, which include religious rituals, ancestor worship, and spiritual symbolism that reinforce Islamic values within the context of Javanese culture. These elements demonstrate that the tradition functions not only as a means of worship but also as a medium for strengthening spiritual and social bonds within the community. Secondly, the study classifies the profane elements of the tradition, encompassing aspects of daily life and social interactions related to the practice of the tradition. These profane elements reflect cultural adaptation and social interactions accompanying the ritual, showing how the tradition integrates with the everyday life of the Semarang community. The theoretical implications of this research offer a deeper understanding of how the Rewanda tradition merges sacred and profane elements and highlights its role as a bridge between religion and culture. This study enriches the literature on the relationship between religion and culture and provides valuable insights into the dynamics of local traditions in preserving cultural heritage and spiritual values in contemporary society.

Abstract

Most of women victims of domestic violence in Indonesia avoid criminal justice system in resolving their cases because criminal justice system gives financial, psychological, and social burdens for them. They accessed the Religious Court instead and other institutions that implements mediation to resolve their cases. This fact gives wider opportunity for mediation, which is a form of restorative justice system, to be a better alternative dispute resolution for domestic violence cases in Indonesia. Unlike retributive justice system that focuses on punishing the perpetrators, restorative justice system focuses on rehabilitation of the rights of the victims. This research explores mediation conducted by service providers for the victims of domestic violence in the Central Java Province, Indonesia. Data collected through interviews with judges, police, social workers, and religious figures from social organizations. This research found that mediation for the victims of domestic violence has been carried out by the services institutions for the victims of domestic violence both in the court and outside the court. However, not all mediations conducted properly as some mediators both in-court and non-court have not been trained on mediation. There is also a tendency among one service provider to proceed all cases of domestic violence in the criminal court while others want to proceed through mediation, which sparks some internal conflicts among them. This research enriches the literature on the services for the victims of domestic violence and provides some insights for alternative resolution for domestic violence cases in Indonesia and especially in Central Java.

Abstract

This article examines the tradition of prayer/Shalawat as a way to get closer to the Prophet Muhammad and Allah. Over time, this prayer practice developed alongside the use of traditional musical instruments like terbang, jidor, teplak and kricik. The article also looks at how Christians incorporate various songs into their worship services as a form of prayer and connection with God. The research aims to understand how music deepens the meaning and impact of prayer for worshippers seeking closeness with the divine. It also wants to explore the spiritual significance of praying with or without instruments and how pop culture elements factor in. The qualitative study utilizes an exploratory-descriptive approach through a comparative theology lens. Key findings are twofold. First, for Muslims, prayer with Muhammad and Allah is a means for drawing nearer to them, obtaining help and healing. For Christians, music is viewed as a gift from God, an expression of thankfulness for life's joys, and encouragement and comfort during difficulties. Second, Islamic shalawat and Christian church music intersect with pop culture by blending traditional instruments like the terbang, jidor, teplak and kricik with contemporary tone and rhythm variations like dangdut. Here, pop culture represents a positive change because it strengthens the spiritual experience for worshippers while adding entertainment value.

Abstract

Although Indonesia is known for its religious diversity, numerous incidents of intolerance reveal that symbols and practices of tolerance have yet to be deeply rooted in the country's social fabric. the Terowongan Silaturahmi in this context, a connecting passage between the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral—stands out as a rare spatial phenomenon symbolizing interfaith harmony in an urban landscape. This study aims to examine the aesthetic and architectural dimensions of the tunnel and analyze public perceptions of it as a representation of pluralist values. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach supported by digital quantitative analysis, the study integrates architectural interpretation, literature review, and sentiment classification of 2,003 comments from 5 videos on the YouTube page using the IndoBERT model and word cloud visualization. The findings reveal that the tunnel is broadly perceived as a positive symbol of tolerance and national identity, though some resistance emerges from conservative groups. Therefore, the Terowongan Silaturahmi exempli-fies how architecture can function as a medium for dialogue and social education on interfaith coexistence within Indonesia's public spaces.

Abstract

Introduction: Alcohol abuse is an uncommon but significant health issue among pregnant women in Indonesia. Even minimal alcohol consumption can cause substantial harm to both individuals and society. However, there are currently no national service standards for screening, recording, or counseling regarding alcohol use during pregnancy in Indonesia.Case Report: A 25-year-old woman, gravida 2 para 1 abortus 0 (G2P1A0), at 20-21 weeks of gestation, presented to the emergency room with decreased consciousness after consuming alcohol suspected to contain ethanol. Clinical assessment and laboratory tests indicated that the patient was suffering from metabolic encephalopathy and severe metabolic acidosis. The patient was promptly intubated and resuscitated. Despite receiving intensive care in the ICU, the patient experienced seizures and intrauterine fetal demise (IUFD), followed by spontaneous labor the next day. Unfortunately, the patient’s condition continued to deteriorate, and she succumbed to multi-organ failure due to high blood alcohol concentration on the ninth day of treatment. Conclusion: From the case we can conclude that alcohol use during pregnancy is closely linked to the patient’s psychological condition. To optimize patient care, obstetricians and gynecologists are encouraged to employ routine screening techniques, clinical laboratory tests, brief interventions, and appropriate treatment referrals, one of them is ASSIST by WHO. Unfortunately, many pregnant women in Indonesia lack access to specialist care. Therefore, it is crucial to disseminate information about the health risks associated with alcohol consumption and abortion within informal community sectors to effectively reach vulnerable groups.
