Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe the emoticon manifestation as a context of pragmatic meaning in the study of cyberpragmatics. The research data is in the form of utterances in which emoticons are the background for describing certain purposes. The data were collected using the reading method accompanied by note-taking techniques. The data collected were then classified and typified. The data that had been typified was validated by applying the expert triangualation method. In addition to expert triangulation, the authors also carried out theoretical triangulation. The analytical method used in this research was the contextual analysis method or equivalent analysis. The steps used in the analysis were sequentially selection, classification, interpretation. The results of the research on the function of emoticons as context were presented as follows: (1) Emoticons provide an illustration of the pragmatic meaning of being happy; (2) Emoticons emphasize the purpose of laughter; (3) Emoticons provide an illustration of the affirmation of the pragmatic meaning of happiness; (4) Emoticons illustrate the pragmatic meaning of doubt; (5) Emoticons provide an overview of the pragmatic meaning of smiling activity; (6) Emoticons describe a person who is feeling shy; (7) Emoticons illustrate the pragmatic meaning of a secret sense; (8) Emoticons describe the pragmatic meaning of feeling disappointed; (9) Emoticon background pragmatic meaning is very disappointed; (10) Emoticons illustrate the pragmatic meaning of liking something. Keywords:

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the form and pragmatic meaning of visual ostentivity in the cybertext context of socio-political hate speech in public spaces from a critical pragmatic perspective. This study is a qualitative study. The object of this study is the visual ostentivity of the cybertext context. The research data were excerpts of speech in social media which contain forms and pragmatic meanings of visual ostentivity in the cybertext context. The data source for this study was social media on various platforms found in public spaces, especially virtual public spaces which contain data on visual ostentivity in the cybertext context. Data were collected using the listening method and the listening was carried out using the note-taking technique. Recording was carried out by paying attention to the multimodality-based cybertext context before data classification and typification were carried out. Triangulation was carried out with an investigation model carried out by related experts. Data analysis was carried out by applying distributional methods and equivalent methods, especially extralingual. The distributional analysis method was used to reach the linguistic dimensions of this study. The extralingual equivalent analysis method was used to reach its pragmatic dimensions. The steps of data analysis were identification, classification, interpretation, and ending with the presentation of the analysis results. This study found five forms of visual ostentivity in the cybertext context. The five forms of ostentivity were presented below: (1) Visual Ostentivity in Cybertext Context with Pragmatic Meaning of Insult, (2) Visual Ostentivity in Cybertext Context with Pragmatic Meaning of Blasphemy, (3) Visual Ostentivity in Cybertext Context with Pragmatic Meaning of Mockery, (4) Visual Ostentivity in Cybertext Context with Pragmatic Meaning of Satire, (5) Visual Ostentivity in Cybertext Context with Pragmatic Meaning of Insult.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to describe the findings on the forms, pragmatic meanings, and functions of phatic markers in sociopolitical internet media, using an epistemologically-based discursive-integrative pragmatic perspective. The data consist of manifestations of forms, pragmatic meanings, and functions of phatic markers in sociopolitical discourse on internet platforms. The substantive data sources are sociopolitical texts containing phatic markers across various online platforms. The data collection method employed is the observation method, using recording and note-taking techniques. Data collection concluded upon the identification of clear classifications and types of data ready for appropriate analysis methods and techniques. The technique applied in the analysis is the comparative relationship technique. This study has produced the following findings: (1) The markers “Come On,” “Yes, Right?” and “Nah” to express the intention to convince; (2) The markers “I apologize inwardly”, “I appreciate”, and “Please…” to build an image and power relations; (3) The markers “Yes, right!”, narrative repetition, and personalization of reality to frame the narrative of optimism; (4) The markers “Nah”, “I am sure”, and “Yes” to express the intention of optimism; (5) The markers “Mr. President”, Causal Structure, and Digital Diction “Banget” as strategies for legitimization, rationalization, and audience adaptation; (6) The phatic markers “If You Can”, “99.9 Percent”, and “Can’t Live Him Back” as strategies for modulation, rationalization, and emotionalization in leadership representation.  AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan hasil riset bentuk, makna pragmatik, dan fungsi penanda fatis sosial-politik media internet dalam perspektif pragmatik diskursif-integratif berbasis epistemologis. Data berupa manifestasi bentuk, makna pragmatik, dan fungsi penanda fatis sosial-politik dalam media internet. Sumber data substantif penelitian ini adalah teks-teks sosial-politik yang mengandung penanda-penanda kefatisan dalam berbagai platform internet. Metode pengumpulan data yang diterapkan adalah metode simak dengan teknik rekam dan catat. Metode analisis data yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis padan ekstralingual. Metode analisis padan ini lazim disebut sebagai metode kontekstual. Selanjutnya teknik yang diterapkan dalam rangka analisis data tersebut adalah teknik hubung banding. Penelitian ini telah menghasilkan temuan-temuan berikut ini: (1) Penanda “Come On,” “Iya, Kan?” dan “Nah” untuk menyatakan maksud meyakinkan; (2) Penanda “Mohon maaf lahir batin”, “Saya apresiasi”, dan “Silakan…” untuk membangun citra dan relasi kekuasaan; (3) Penanda “Iya, kan!”, pengulangan naratif, dan personalisasi realitas untuk membingkai narasi optimisme; (4) Penanda “Nah”, “Saya yakin”, dan “Ya” untuk menyatakan maksud optimis; (5) Penanda “Bapak Presiden”, Struktur Kausal, dan Diksi Digital “Banget” sebagai strategi legitimasi, rasionalisasi, dan adaptasi Audiens dalam Pidato Sri Mulyani; (6) Penanda Fatis Sosial-Politik “Kalau Bisa”, “99,9 Persen”, dan “Nggak Bisa Hidupkan Dia Kembali” sebagai Strategi Modulasi, Rasionalisasi, dan Emosionalisasi dalam Representasi Kepemimpinan.
