Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Esa Kareem Primary School, Kota Bandung, untuk mengatasi dua permasalahan utama, yaitu rendahnya kesadaran mencuci tangan pakai sabun (CTPS) dan pengelolaan limbah minyak jelantah. Program ini dirancang untuk memberikan edukasi interaktif kepada siswa dan guru mengenai pentingnya CTPS sebagai upaya mencegah penyakit menular serta memberikan pelatihan praktis kepada guru dalam mengolah minyak jelantah menjadi sabun cuci tangan ramah lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan meliputi diskusi kelompok, sosialisasi, dan pelatihan berbasis workshop. Proses evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur peningkatan pemahaman peserta. Hasil kegiatanmenunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta mengenai pentingnya CTPS sebesar 30,7%, dan pengetahuan tentang pengelolaan minyak jelantah meningkat sebesar 37,3%. Selain itu, pelatihan ini menghasilkan sabun cuci tangan yang diperkaya ekstrak pegagan (Centella asiatica), yang memberikan manfaat antioksidan dan antiinflamasi. Produk ini tidak hanya bermanfaat untuk mendukung kebersihan tangan tetapi juga sebagai solusi untuk meminimalkan dampak lingkungan akibat limbah minyak jelantah. Program ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat (PHBS) di lingkungan sekolah dan menciptakan praktik berkelanjutan yang mendukung pelestarian lingkungan.

Abstract

Limited knowledge of business design frameworks poses a challenge for vocational high school (SMK) graduates who plan to start their own businesses. This study aims to enhance the understanding of pharmacy vocational students regarding the Business Model Canvas (BMC) as a business analysis tool. The activity involved 62 students as respondents and employed questionnaires to measure their level of knowledge before and after the intervention. The program began with the delivery of materials on the fundamental concepts of BMC, covering key components such as value propositions, customer segments, and key activities. Subsequently, the students engaged in discussions and practical exercises to develop BMCs based on case studies relevant to the pharmaceutical field. The results indicated that, prior to the program, most students had limited understanding of the elements within the BMC. After the explanation and practice sessions, students demonstrated improved comprehension in creating structured and applicable BMC designs. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step in equipping pharmacy vocational students with essential business planning skills to support their preparedness for entrepreneurship in a competitive era.

Abstract

Background: The pharmaceutical industry continues to develop user-friendly dosage forms to improve patient compliance, especially for individuals who have difficulty swallowing conventional tablets. Lozenges are an alternative oral dosage form that does not require water and allows drug absorption through the oral mucosa, making them more practical and convenient. In lozenge formulation, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a binder plays an important role in determining physical characteristics such as hardness, friability, and disintegration time. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of varying PVP concentrations on the physical characteristics of curcumin isolate lozenges and to determine the optimal formulation. Methods: An experimental method using wet granulation was applied with PVP concentrations of 1%; 2%; 3%; 4% and 5%. Evaluations included granule properties (moisture content, flow rate, angle of repose, compressibility index) and tablet properties (organoleptic characteristics, weight and size uniformity, hardness, friability, and disintegration time). Results: Increasing PVP concentration influenced tablet characteristics, particularly hardness, friability, and disintegration time. All formulations met the physical quality requirements for lozenges. The formulation containing 3% PVP showed the most balanced characteristics compared to others. Conclusion: PVP concentration affects the physical properties of curcumin lozenges, with 3% identified as the optimal concentration, indicating its potential as a practical alternative oral dosage form.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit characterized by sebum overproduction, abnormal keratinization, microbial proliferation, and inflammation, with Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis as key contributing bacteria. To reduce the side effects associated with conventional acne therapies, natural ingredients have been explored as alternative approaches. Black mulberry (Morus nigra) fruit is one such natural source known to contain bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids, which possess antibacterial properties. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a topical cream formulation containing ethanolic extract of black mulberry fruit and to assess its antibacterial activity and physicochemical stability. The extract was obtained through 96% ethanol maceration and formulated into creams at concentrations of 1.25%, 2.5%, and 5%. Antibacterial activity was evaluated using the agar well diffusion method, while cream quality was assessed through organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, and centrifugation stability. The results showed that the extract exhibited strong antibacterial activity against both tested bacteria. All concentrations demonstrated inhibition zones categorized as strong, with a concentration-dependent increase in activity. At 1.25% inhibition zones against P. acnes were 11.7 ± 0.25 m, while against S. epidermidis were 11.9 ± 0.20 mm at day 28. All formulations showed acceptable physicochemical characteristics and remained stable during 28 days of storage. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a stable topical cream formulation of M. nigra extract with confirmed antibacterial activity, providing a potential plant-based alternative for anti-acne therapy.

Abstract

Gel transfersom merupakan sediaan semipadat yang mengandung vesikel transfersom dengan kemampuan meningkatkan penetrasi ke dalam kulit sehingga berpotensi digunakan sebagai sistem penghantaran transdermal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengevaluasi stabilitas basis gel transfersom menggunakan fosfatidilkolin sebagai komponen pembentuk vesikel dan Tween 80 sebagai surfaktan untuk meningkatkan elastisitas vesikel. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada formulasi basis gel transfersom tanpa penambahan zat aktif, sehingga evaluasi dilakukan terhadap karakteristik fisik dan stabilitas sediaan. Karakterisasi awal meliputi uji organoleptik, pengukuran pH, viskositas, daya sebar, daya lekat, serta analisis ukuran partikel menggunakan Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). Seluruh parameter evaluasi dilakukan pada penyimpanan suhu 25 °C dan 40 °C selama 4 minggu. Selain itu, uji stabilitas dipercepat dilakukan hingga minggu ke-12 menggunakan climatic chamber pada suhu 40 °C ± 2 °C dan kelembapan relatif 75% ± 5%, dengan parameter yang diamati meliputi organoleptik, pH, dan ukuran partikel. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa selama penyimpanan tidak terjadi perubahan warna, bentuk, maupun bau sediaan. Nilai pH berada pada rentang 6–7 dan masih sesuai dengan persyaratan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI). Ukuran partikel rata-rata dan indeks polidispersitas pada minggu ke-4 masing-masing sebesar 229,4 nm dan 0,687, kemudian menurun pada minggu ke-12 menjadi 172,2 nm dan 0,476. Tidak ditemukan adanya aglomerasi selama penyimpanan, yang menunjukkan kestabilan fisik sediaan yang baik. Secara keseluruhan, formulasi basis gel transfersom yang dihasilkan memenuhi persyaratan mutu fisik dan stabilitas, sehingga berpotensi untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebagai sistem pembawa transdermal dengan penambahan zat aktif pada penelitian selanjutnya.
