Abstract

The potential of Sensi-1 Agrinak and KUB crossbred so-called SENKUB chicken as dual-purpose chicken can be increased by selecting hatching egg weights to get DOC with good quality. The study was conducted to evaluate the grades of hatching eggs of SENKUB chicken on hatching and production performances. The complete randomized design was applied in this experiment with 3 treatments. The treatments are the grades of hatching egg (small 36-40 g, medium 41-45 g, and large 46-50 g). The hatching process used two stages hatching machine. All DOCs were selected according to the Indonesia National Standard (SNI). The selected DOCs were raised in different pens to evaluate the production performances. The hatching showed that the large eggs have significantly the highest fertility, hatchability, hatching weight, and salable chick but the lowest weight loss. Embryo mortality was the same between different hatching egg grades. The best-weight DOC was obtained from medium and large hatching eggs. The hatching egg grades do not significantly affect the production performances of the hatched chicken. However, the chickens with small and large hatching eggs resulted in better production performance.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to determine the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) to Ringer Lactate-Egg Yolk (RL-EY) extender on pelung chicken semen preservation. Semen was collected three times a week from three pelung chickens. Collected semen was evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. Only ejaculates of at least 70% sperm motility was then divided into three equal microtubes. Each of them diluted with RL-EY with ratio 90%:10%, then added with 0.00, 0.025, and 0.05% SDS respectively. The liquid semen then stored at 5 °C for 72 hours. Sperm motility and viability were observed every 12 hours. The addition of 0.025% SDS showed higher spermatozoa motility and viability (72.08±1.44% and 80.82±1.30%) which were significantly higher (P0.05) than 0.00 and 0.05% SDS addition at 24 hours of storage. There was no differences on the spermatozoa motility and viability between 0.00 and 0.05% SDS addition. The decrease of spermatozoa motility and viability was observed in 0.025% SDS addition (4.17±0.56% and 4.65±0.59%, respectively) that significantly lower compared to 0% and 0.05% SDS addition at 24 hours of storage. In conclusion, 0.025% SDS addition in a Ringer Lactate -Egg Yolk extender maintained pelung spermatozoa motility and viability better than 0.00 and 5% SDS addition.

Abstract

Quails are classified according to their immunity to different IgY concentrations. Quail IgY concentrations range from 0 to 1200 µg ml-1, and these IgY concentrations may affect production and reproductive performance. This study aimed to analyze IgY concentrations in male quail and to compare production and reproductive performance at different IgY concentrations. Forty-two male quail at five weeks of age participated in the study, including 29 quail with low IgY concentration (210-393 µg ml-1)   and, 13 with intermediate IgY concentration (403-564 µg ml-1). The observed productive performances were feed intake, initial body weight, final body weight, weight gain, feed conversion, morbidity, and mortality. In addition, this study observed testicular weight and macroscopic and microscopic semen quality for reproductive traits. Differences in production and reproductive performance of each group were analyzed using an independent-sample t-test. The result showed that male quail with different IgY concentrations were equal in all productive traits (P0.05). This means that male quail with low IgY and medium IgY concentrations are equally good. Testicular weight, semen color and pH were identical at different IgY concentrations. Quails with low IgY concentrations have better sperm consistency, which is related to the weight of the testes, which are heavier in quails with low IgY concentrations than in those with moderate IgY concentrations. This consistency is related to the concentration of sperm in the semen. The result concludes IgY concentrations in male quail did not affect production performance. Quails with low IgY concentration had thicker sperm consistency and higher sperm concentration.

Abstract

Genetic improvement through intensive selection in broilers for economically important traits such as body weight, growth rate, feed efficiency, and carcass quality plays a role in increasing the productivity and efficiency of the broiler industry. Good maintenance management is needed by paying attention to the quantity and quality of feed as well as comfortable and controlled environmental conditions. The environmental factor that is often the focus of attention is the temperature of milieu. During the brooding period aged 0‒21 days, the Day Old Chick cannot regulate its body temperature perfectly and still influenced by ambient temperature. Therefore, it is necessary to study the effect of brooding temperature on the performance of broiler at PT New Hope Indonesia's customers, to find the problems in regulating brooding temperatures along with solutions, evaluations, and improvement plans. Observations were made for 21 days in a semi-closed house with a population of 22,000 Cobb strain broiler. The research method used is data recording observation. The primary data were average brooding temperature for 21 days, depletion rate, feed consumption, body weight, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and production index. There was a deviation in body weight and FCR at the age of 11‒14 days due to the restriction of the heater until the age of 14 days and the wind speed at night which was more than 0.3 ms-1. With the corrective action of wind speed regulation, an effective temperature close to the thermoneutral zone and optimal production performance was obtained until the end of the brooding period. Abstract

The improvement in broiler chicken performance is currently thanks to the genetic selection, nutrition, maintenance management, and health and biosecurity programs that have succeeded in improving the maintenance performance of broilers.  Such rapid development in the cycle after hatching is undoubtedly also influenced by the embryo's development or the prenatal phase. Unlike other mammals, the process of breeding poultry has its characteristics where the process of embryonic development occurs outside the body of livestock or inside poultry eggs. Chicken embryos rely heavily on the nutrients inside the egg, which provide the energy and amino acid makeup needed for the metabolic needs of the growing embryo during the 21-day incubation process. Chicken embryos are susceptible to a lack of energy during the hatching process. This deficiency can result in weak embryos and, in more severe conditions, embryo death and failure to hatch. The nutritional needs of embryos during incubation can be added to the egg with the in ovo feeding technique. The in ovo feeding technique is a technique that allows the addition of outside nutrients injected into the egg during incubation for the developmental and metabolic needs of the embryo, as well as to improve the nutritional status of the egg.  Nutrition stimulation with in ovo feeding technique produces many benefits, such as increasing hatchability, hatching weight, immunity level, reduced bone system disorders, reduced morbidity and mortality after hatching, feed efficiency and weight gain.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to compare the productivity of GPS strains, namely Ross, Cobb, Hubbard, and Indian River in hens and males at 21 weeks of age. The research data was obtained from the results of an audit of the breeding company by the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, from November 2022 to March 2023. The results showed that the comparison of hen productivity in the four strains, namely (1) the Indian River strain had a high body weight compared to other strains, (2) the Hubbard strain has a higher depletion rate than the other strains, but this depletion rate does not reflect bad or bad genetics, but it reflects a high degree of selection, and (3) the Indian River strain has a higher uniformity level than other strains. The productivity of roosters is (1) the Indian River strain has a high body weight compared to other strains, (2) the Indian River strain has a higher depletion rate than the other strains, however, this depletion rate does not reflect bad or bad genetics, but it reflects high selection rate, and (3) Indian River strain has a higher uniformity level than other strains.

Abstract

Production performance research was carried out on three Grand Parent Stock (GPS) broiler strains, namely Indian River, Ross and Cobb. The data was obtained from the results of production performance audits of broiler GPS breeders during the laying period of 25 – 65 weeks. Variables measured include laying lifeability, egg/hen house production, rate peak production/hen house, hatching egg/hen house production, fertility, hatchibilty, and saleable chick/henhouse. Data were analyzed quantitatively using t-test, analysis of variance (Anova) and Duncan. This study showed that the Indian river strain had higher production characteristics in terms of vitality, egg production, peak production, hatching egg production, and saleable chicks. Ross strains have higher production characteristics at rates of peak production, fertility, hatchability, and saleable chicks. The cobb strain has the lowest production performance compared to the other strains. Comparison between the strains and the principle standard shows that the actual hatchability and saleable chicks were lower than the standard in the Indian Rivers strain. The Ross strain had an actual value greater than the standard for fertility, hatchability and saleable chicks. Whereas the actual values for the Cobb strain for viability, egg production, peak production, hatching egg production, and saleable chicks were lower than the standard.

Abstract

One think In the Parent Stock breeder farm is Scoring Fleshing in growing periode The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the fleshing score on the production performance of parent stock hens and find problems in the form of deviations from the fleshing score along with evaluations, solutions, and improvement plans. The benefit of this research is to provide information and guidance for farm supervisors and managers regarding target fleshing. Measuring the fleshing score is done by directly measuring the thickness of the chicken breast muscles. The number of samples taken is 5% of the total population ( COBB 2022 ). The data processed by excel 2021 and descriptive analised in order to same with the filed. Fleshing score aims to maintain and monitor body weight so that it is maintained, not to be overweight or otherwise the chickens become too thin. Good fleshing will produce enough fat reserves. This fat reserve is useful for preparation before production. The next hope is that with sufficient fat reserves during production, peak production will be high and production performance will be more persistent. Hens in coops that achieve an ideal fleshing score (less fleshing score 2) in the growing period tend to show better performance during the laying period, lower depletion of laying, higher peak production, higher cumulative PE, and higher cumulative HE. Abstract

This study aimed to assess the welfare and performance of Bali cattle transported by Camara Nusantara vessel. We observed five-day transporting of 30 Bali cattle (1-2 years old, 100-200kg body weight) from cattle loading at Tenau Port, Kupang and cattle handling during sea transportation to cattle unloading at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. The measured parameters were cattle’s physiological responses, including body surface temperature, foaming (excessive foam around their mouth), respiration (respiration rate during transportation), and panting (any panting behavior during the transport). The behavioral responses measured in this study were feeding behavior (do cattle eat normally during transportation process), lying (can cattle lie normally), agonistic interaction (mounting, head fighting, etc.), freeze during the loading/ unloading process (stop walking during loading and unloading process), coercion (cattle was hit during loading and unloading process), and slip/fall (cattle slipped or fell during loading and unloading process). The welfare evaluation was carried out by scoring system on the observed parameters. The result showed that the cattle showed a normal physiological response, except their body surface temperature was slightly above normal, i.e., 32-35oC. The cattle also showed normal behavior responses except for coercion. The average score gets from this study was 2.5, indicative of slightly poor physiology and behavior when cattle being transported.
