Abstract

The problem of koi fish farming in Blitar Regency that is causing concern and has not been resolved is a disease caused by ectoparasites. The purpose of this study was to observe the types of ectoparasites and the prevalence of parasites that attack koi fish in cultivation centers in Blitar Regency. This type of research is descriptive research with a survey method approach. The koi fish sampled were koi fish fingerlings measuring 7-15 cm in the Kohaku, Tancho, Ogon, and Utsuri varieties with three individuals each. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. Examination of ectoparasites was carried out by cutting the body parts of the fish (fins, gill lamellae, and tail), then placing them on a glass slide, dripping with distilled water, covering with a cover glass, and observing under a microscope. The results of the ectoparasites examination were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The data obtained is tabulated in tables and graphs and paired with related literacy. The results showed that there were 5 types of ectoparasites, namely: Lerneaea sp., Argulus sp., Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus sp., and Gyrodactylus sp., with different numbers and prevalence in each variety. The highest prevalence of ectoparasites in 4 varieties of koi fish was in the Ogon variety (66.6%) with the very frequent infection category, and the lowest in the Kohaku, Tancho, and Utsuri varieties (33%) with the general infection category. The highest prevalence of each type of ectoparasites was Gyrodactylus sp., amounting to 66.6% (very frequent infections) with 3 individual parasites, and Dactylogyrus sp., amounting to 33% -66.6% (general infections - very frequent) with 7 individuals.

Abstract

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world has urged researchers to develop a vaccine or therapeutic drugs to fight this virus. This study aimed to assay 14 deoxy-11,12-didehydroandrographolide (AGP 2) ability as an inhibitor of 3-chymotrypsin like-protease (3CLPro), Papain-like protease (PLPro), and RNA-dependent RNA-polymerase (RdRp), the viral proteins of SARS-CoV-2 and to evaluate it safeness as a drug candidate. In-silico technique was performed in this study to analyze the binding interaction, complex stability between protein and ligand, and drug-likeness properties. The proteins and ligands were obtained from Protein Data Bank (PDB) and PubChem web tools, then using PyRx to identify the binding affinity score, PyMoL to visualize the 3D binding interaction, and WebGro web tools to analyze the stability of each complex. A drug-likeness evaluation was done using SwissADME, pkCSM, and Way2drug web tools. The result of this study showed that the binding affinity score for each complex is; AGP 2-3CLPro (-6.7 kcal/mol), AGP 2- PLPro (-6.4 kcal/mol), and AGP 2-RdRp (-7.0 kcal/mol) where the AGP 2-RdRp and AGP 2-3CLPro showed a stable form indicating the inhibitor ability of AGP 2. This study also demonstrates that the drug-likeness properties of AGP 2 are safe to use. Additionally, it has been proved that AGP 2 can be developed into a therapeutic drug with further studies.

Abstract

The Youth Scientific Group (YSG) is an extracurricular activity that has a positive impact on students. Unfortunately, the presence of YSG in various schools, including SMAN 1 Tumpang, is still not optimal. In this high school located in Malang Regency, the YSG activities have not been carried out consistently. The scientific competence and research literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang have not been fully utilized. In response to this issue, the aim of the Community Science and Technology Program (Community Service Program) is to enhance the scientific competence and literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang through mentoring in the preparation of YSG. This Community Service Program consists of several stages, including observation and problem identification, preparation of YSG mentors, material presentation, training and mentoring, activity evaluation, and the preparation of scientific articles as program outputs. The average pretest score of the students' knowledge was 39.67, while the posttest score increased to 93.23. The average N-gain of their knowledge reached 0.836. Based on this N-gain value, the students' knowledge improvement is categorized as high. The paired t-test results indicate a significant difference in students' knowledge related to scientific work before (M = 39.7, SD = 20.6) and after the program (M = 93.2, SD = 7.5), t(30) = 14.6, p < .001. Therefore, the program implemented in the partner school has proven to be beneficial in enhancing students' scientific competence.

Abstract

High levels of organic matter and heavy metals in domestic wastewater can increase the pollution of water bodies. The water pollution results correspond to the degree of public health. Waste must be controlled and processed first using management methods such as biophytoremedyator to decrease the rate of pollution because its advantages do not negatively impact public health and the environment. Biophytoremediation offers a better alternative method to repair environmental conditions by combining microorganisms and plants. This study aimed to analyze the effect of heterotrophic bacterial strains with Pistia stratiotes L. and Salvinia molesta D. Mitch for heavy metal removal in domestic wastewater. It also investigated the influence of heterotrophic bacterial strains with Pistia stratiotes L. and Salvinia molesta D. Mitch which were also carried out to observe the BOD and COD levels. The results showed decreased heavy metal levels from the three treatment groups. The consortium treatment group of heterotrophs and Salvinia molesta D. Mitch bacteria strains reduced heavy metal levels faster than the other groups by 59%. In addition, it is also able to reduce BOD and COD levels. This study has shown the significant effect of combining heterotrophic bacterial (HB) strains with Pistia stratiotes L. or Salvinia molesta D. Mitch for heavy metal removal in domestic wastewater.

Abstract

Air is important for human survival, but in modern times, air quality is increasingly decreasing due to air pollution. Air quality can be seen in several aspects, one of which is the biological aspect. Lichenes are a biological aspect that can be used as an indicator of air quality. Lichenes are sensitive to the natural conditions in which they live, if air pollution occurs in their habitat it will disrupt their growth process. The aim of this research is to determine the air quality in the Pujon Special Purpose Forest Area, Malang Regency, based on the results of the diversity of spesies and size of Lichenes found. This research uses a quantitative approach and an exploratory descriptive research type. The method used was purposive sampling using a 10×20m belt transect placed at stations I, II, and III in the Pujon Special Purpose Forest Area. Data analysis techniques include abiotic factor analysis, analysis of the size of Lichenes as an indicator of air quality, Shannon-Weiner (H') diversity, and analysis of macroscopic characteristics. The results of this research found that 27 spesies of Lichenes had been identified from 15 different families. The highest diversity index value was at station II (2.62), followed by station I (2.52), and the lowest at station III (2.41). Based on the spesies diversity index value, Lichenes are included in medium diversity. The average size of Lichenes at stations I, II, and III indicates that the air quality in the Pujon Special Purpose Forest Area is of very good quality.
