Abstract

The development of the health sector in Indonesia faces dual challenges of infectious and degenerative diseases. Immunization has proven to be an effective strategy in combating infectious diseases. However, achieving optimal immunization coverage remains a challenge. This study aimed to understand the factors influencing maternal intentions and behaviors in Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) control through immunization based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. Research methods is A Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between constructs studied, namely Attitude, Subjective Norms, Perceived Control, Intention, and Behavior. Data were collected through a survey administered to a sample of mothers of toddlers. Results the SEM analysis revealed significant relationships between Attitude, Subjective Norms, Perceived Control, Intention, and Behavior. Attitude significantly influenced Intention, while Subjective Norms and Perceived Control indirectly influenced Intention. However, Subjective Norms and Perceived Control did not have a direct significant impact on Behavior. Conclusion this research is findings underscore the importance of Attitude, Subjective Norms, and Perceived Control in shaping maternal intentions and behaviors regarding VPD. Recommendations for improving maternal attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control, and intentions include educational strategies, social support, and enhancing accessibility to immunization services. By implementing these recommendations, it is hoped that the coverage and effectiveness of VPD immunization programs in Indonesia will be enhanced.

Abstract

Inadequate hand hygiene continues to pose a major public health threat, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as Indonesia. This study investigates the influence of combined media and interpersonal communication (IPC) campaigns on maternal handwashing behavior. Utilizing a qualitative synthesis of empirical data from Hanson et al. (2020) and Hirai et al. (2016), This study applied thematic and conceptual analysis grounded in Social Cognitive Theory and the Health Belief Model. The methodology draws on secondary data and literature-based thematic patterns to explore behavior change dynamics. Findings indicate that media alone increases awareness but often fails to lead to sustained behavior change. In contrast, IPC enhances message retention, fosters trust, and enables culturally relevant reinforcement of health behaviors. When used in tandem, media and IPC significantly improve both knowledge and handwashing practices among mothers. Emotional and social motivators, such as concern for child safety and peer influence, further drive behavioral adoption. The results suggest that integrated health campaigns that combine media outreach with interpersonal reinforcement are more effective in promoting hygiene compliance. These insights offer practical guidance for designing community-centered health interventions, particularly in LMIC contexts. The study emphasizes the need for multi-modal, culturally grounded health communication strategies to address hygiene-related challenges.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of degenerative diseases such as hypertension and diabetes in adolescents is a serious concern, mainly due to the consumption of foods high in sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) and the low habit of reading food labels. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and abilities of adolescents in reading food labels in an effort to prevent degenerative diseases. The education was conducted at MTSS Al-Hasanat, Sigi Regency, through “Detective Makmin” interactive media in the form of modules and wall magazines, accompanied by demonstrations and label reading practice competitions. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests on 24 students using instruments that had been tested for validity. The results of the paired t-test and Wilcoxon showed a significant increase in knowledge (p < 0,001), attitudes (p < 0,001), and the ability to read food labels (p < 0,001) after the intervention. The education provided was proven effective in improving adolescent nutritional literacy, especially in understanding the GGL content on food and beverage packaging. A participatory approach, the use of local media, and active student involvement played an important role in the success of the activity. Similar programs are recommended to be expanded to other schools with digital media development and parental involvement to strengthen long-term impact.

Abstract

Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) remain global health challenges, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM), who face biological and social vulnerabilities. In Indonesia, MSM represent a key population with high HIV prevalence, and Palu City reports the highest number of HIV cases in Central Sulawesi, underscoring the need for targeted prevention. Objectives: This study examined the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, infrastructure availability, healthcare provider support, peer influence, stigma/discrimination, and family support with HIV/AIDS preventive behavior among MSM at Talise Health Center, Palu. Methods: An explanatory mixed-methods design was used. The quantitative phase applied a cross-sectional approach with total sampling of 30 MSM, analyzed using univariate and bivariate (Chi-Square) tests. The qualitative phase involved case studies with in-depth interviews of 10 informants. Results: Overall, 43.3% of MSM showed good preventive behavior. Significant associations were found between infrastructure availability, peer influence, family support, and stigma/discrimination with HIV/AIDS preventive behavior (p<0.05). No significant relationship was observed for knowledge or healthcare provider support (p>0.05). Qualitative findings revealed that although MSM possessed adequate knowledge, this did not consistently lead to preventive actions. Conclusions: HIV/AIDS preventive behavior among MSM in Talise remains suboptimal. Key influencing factors include attitudes, family support, infrastructure, peer influence, and stigma/discrimination. Strengthening empowerment programs to reduce stigma and enhance community support is essential to improve prevention efforts.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Personal hygiene is an essential component of the clean and healthy living behavior. program in islamic boarding schools. High-density living conditions, shared activities, and communal habits increase the risk of disease transmission among students. Educational videos serve as an effective medium for health promotion because they deliver messages visually and are easy to understand. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of educational video media in improving personal hygiene behavior among female students at an Islamic boarding school. Method: A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted to measure the impact of an educational video intervention based on the five stages of the transtheoretical model (precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance). The intervention was delivered in five video sessions according to the stages of behavior change. This study was conducted at the Al-Istiqamah Modern Islamic Boarding School in Ngatabaru, Sigi Regency, from August to November 2025. Results: There were no negative ranks in pretest and posttest scores at all stages of behavior change, indicating that all participants experienced improved personal hygiene behavior after the intervention. A Wilcoxon test for all variables showed a p-value of 0.001 < α = 0.05, indicating a significant change after the educational video. Conclusion: Educational video media is effective in improving personal hygiene behavior among female students at all stages of behavior change.   Keywords: Clean and Healthy Living Behavior; Educational Videos; Female Islamic Students; Personal Hygiene.   Pendahuluan: Personal hygiene merupakan bagian penting dari penerapan Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) di pesantren. Abstract

This study aims to analyze disaster survivors’ perceptions of disaster preparedness in the Permanent Housing (Huntap) area of Tondo, Palu City. Huntap Tondo serves as a relocation site for victims of the 2018 earthquake, tsunami, and liquefaction disasters. Although survivors now reside in a newly developed area designed to enhance safety and comfort, they continue to face potential future disaster risks. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving 15 key informants, including survivors and community leaders. The findings reveal that survivors’ perceptions of disaster preparedness are strongly influenced by their traumatic experiences, level of understanding of disaster risks, and the availability of disaster information and education within their environment. While some survivors demonstrated high awareness of the importance of preparedness—such as storing emergency supplies and participating in disaster training—others exhibited more passive attitudes, relying predominantly on authorities. Limited community involvement in mitigation planning and insufficient routine socialization were identified as major obstacles to fostering collective preparedness. This study recommends a more participatory, community-based approach alongside strengthening local capacity through ongoing training and the establishment of accessible disaster information systems for all residents of Huntap Tondo.
